    120 MarkArt exactly same as 120 Nyoni (which owns MarkArt). You don't need these if you have Nyoni.

    • @mydogeatspuke
      @mydogeatspuke 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you happen to have the Renoir and/or Tribute to compare them to? I only ask because the Nyoni watercolour pencils look a lot like the Renoir ones and I know these companies all like to use the same handful of factories. I'd have substantially less envy being in the UK if I didn't need them in the first place.

      @@mydogeatspuke I have Nyoni, Deli, Marco Renoir, Brutfuner 120/180. All different! And if there's another set you really don't need, there's a new budget Brutfuner round set of 520 on Aliexpress...

    • @mydogeatspuke
      @mydogeatspuke 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@andrewmandywilsontatham49 100% completely different, or only slightly different if you haven't picked one up for a week and are basing it on memory? I've seen a lot of people with terrible judgement for these things lol

    • @andrewmandywilsontatham49

      @@mydogeatspuke My Marcos are a thin pencil that slips when its cold so I haven't used them for a while (winter in NZ). They are similar to my Lyra's. The Deli feel drier than any of the others and are supposed to be almost the same as Polychromos but I don't have any, the Nyoni are like silk or butter and I think I like them better than the Deli. The Brut squares feel more like the Lyra and drier than the Nyoni. Luxurious? If that applies. The round Bruts feel waxy and smooth, but you just know you're not going to get the layers that you will with the others. And picked all of them up within the last week. Hope that helps. PS our dogs eat puke too.

    • @mydogeatspuke

      @@andrewmandywilsontatham49 I was following you until you said the square Bruts felt luxurious lol. They're the same cores as the rounds and they're absolute trash, relatively speaking. I have no idea why so many people are rating them so highly. My Renoir are lovely and soft, not thin at all, slightly thicker if anything with sturdy and meaty cores, and the satin wooden barrel makes them really easy to hold. I've been told by some people that the Lyra Rembrandt are VERY different compared to the Renoir, so to see you say they're similar just makes this an even bigger cosmic joke. I've also been told by some that the Nyoni are the same as other brands that I know are the same (or "so very similar that it would be impossible to tell them apart but we can't say for certain because some people get very unstable when you make statements of fact" I suppose) as Renoir. My round Brutfuner don't feel waxy at all. They're definitely oily, as is plastered all over the box some 12 times. They don't layer particularly well though, no. Lots of weird scratchy issues too, but that's pretty common in 120+ for $20 pencils. I think I'll just stop hoping for anything special from the bargain bucket and stick to the painfully expensive but guaranteed to be quality stuff instead.
      Dogs are disgusting little menaces, but it's very normal for them to think gobbling down their own vomit is the tastiest treat in the world. Also cat poop. So gross, but hilarious all the same.

Because two years have passed and competition among budget pencils is always fierce, I am going to find a more recent review to see what, if anything, has changed about these pencils since the time this review was done. Can you please check them against the Brutfruner Squares, colors and numbers. I have the Brut Squares 72 and the MarkArt 48, and they are the same in number and color, the only difference is shape of barrel and the Brutfuner 72 has no N in the number . Now I'm not sure if the Brutfuner 120 has all the same colors as the MarkArt 120, but I would really like know if there is difference in the larger sets. That info would really help people to know so they don't go and keep buying the same set of pencils over and over.

    The colors of the pencils come from minerals from the ground, plants and chemicals. They are all different so the texture or hardness of the leads will be different from each pencil. You will find that in the expensive sets or the cheaper ones.

    The 120 Markart Pencils continue to come without the names on the pencils, just on the lid & some of the names are as lovely as the pencils.
    But these Markart Pencils are a REALLY good deal as the Nyoni 120 are $60.00+ dollars on AliExpress & are both made at the same Coarmcolor Factory.

    They must be from the same factory as arteza. I compared them on the same paper, they feel the same, smell the same, the wood looks the same, the pencil looks identical when you look at the top when hold them next to each other. The colors are different but this is because the companies who let the pencils produce from the factory can choose which of thousands pantone-colors they want in their pencil set.

    The 72 set wasn't available before it only became available when the 120 set was introduced. These are the Nyoni pencils I have them and compared them to the 48 set of Markart and they are exactly the same. I think it was horrible of Amazon to bump up the price $10 after people started buying the pencils by word of mouth. I'll wait til they go back down or for the 21st-22nd to see if I can get them on sale since they will be a backup set. I love my Nyoni pencils I've had them for about 2 years.

  • @Jomac87

    Layering well isn't a new thing in budget pencils, I have quite a few budget sets that layer and blend well like the crayola, Marco raffine, WH Smith pencils, Arteza, castle art etc, and that's only the ones I can think of just now. I only buy pencils now that I know I'm going to use. I don't need 120 or 180 set of budget pencils that will inevitably gather dust. They do look quite crumbly to me but that's just my opinion. It also depends on the paper you use as well to do these tests. Do them on normal paper and see how they come out because a lot of colouring books do use normal copy paper. I'm assuming you bought these yourself, the company didn't send them to you? Btw most pencils have a mixture of both oil and wax, the art gear guides speaks a lot about this that's why he never talks about a pencil being oil or was based. How can you possibly use all those pencils. I mean I have polychromos, polychromos Albrecht durer, prismas, arteza, Castle Art, inktense, Derwent lightfast, procolour, Holbien and some cheaper brands and I struggle to use them and I hate it, that's why I only buy pencils I know I'm going to use.

    You'll have an easier time doing Light pressure if you hold the pencil further back on the barrel. Give it a try. Do the lightest pressure you can holding it near the tip, then try holding it at the back of the barrel and see the difference.

    Also wax and oil have nothing to do with the hardness of the lead. People think oil is hard because of polychromos. It's not. There are hard and soft versions of both primarily wax and primarily oil pencils. Wax and oil affect how the pigments lay down. Oil based will be a lot more translucent than wax based. However almost all pencils are such a mix this is only really significant for professional grade materials.

    Hi Pamela, these look great, not available in the UK on Amazon UK, but, I’m coming to Florida next year, I’m going shopping for lots of pencils. Next month I’m going to visit the Derwent museum and their large store, it’s only about a 5 hour drive, but I’m going with family so we are making a weekend of it, I do have a few sets already of Derwent, I’m trying to save for the new lightfast pencils…. But the Derwent set I really want are the chromoflow, they only sell them in the states and India, crazy Derwent ! It might be that I’ll have to get that set when I get to the states next year….. sorry if you’ve been asked before, but I’d love to see how you put your sets of pencils in your cases in family order, I still can’t prep colour pallets, I just can’t seem to grasp it ! I know this is an old video, but I just noticed something very interesting. When I look at swatch sheets of the 120 square Brutfuner's, the colors are what seem to be exactly the same as the Markart, even down to the numbers (Markart just has N0 at the beginning of each numbered pencil). Now, I only own the Markart set, not the square Brutfuner's. I'd love to hear your feedback on this and compare them (not asking to make a video), I'm just genuinely SO curious about this. I've been tempted to buy the square Brutfuner's, but if they lay down and feel exactly like the Markart's, then I won't. I LOVE the unique color selection, but the Markart's feel too dry to me and I can hardly get more than 2-3 layers down. Hope to hear back from you! Much love as always 💞💞😊

    • @4alicekg
      @4alicekg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just examined my Markart swatch sheet further with pictures of the Square Brutfuner's swatches, and there are some slight differences such as the Markart's have a lot of darker Magenta/Red-Violet-y colors, and it looks like Brutfuner took some out and replaced with more light pinks. What really caught my eye in the first place is 057 in both sets. It's a very unique light mint color I haven't found in any other sets I have. Also 056, 045, 044, 030, 055, 106, 017, 038 in both sets are the same colors (just to name a few, there's a lot more, but also some differences as well). 057 was my first lil nubbie in Markart because I used it SO much lol. So hence my temptations to buy the 120 Brut's so I can have that color again 😅

      I don't believe they are the same. The Markart are the same as the Nyoni colored pencils. As with all budget brands, you're going to find some colors that are very similar. This holds true for artist-grade sets too.

      @@PamelasPassionforPencils Thank you for your reply! 💞 In your experience, do the Brut's 120 square set lay down smoother? It's so weird with my Markart set. Most colors have that sort of dry feeling when they lay down and when I attemp blending and layering, then there'll be a couple gems in the rough that feel super smooth! I've read and heard other people mention it too. The Brutfuner's keep tempting me still 😅

    I just got mine today! Unfortunately, the package and tin were damaged and I received 1 pencil with absolutely no branding at all. No stripe, no wording, no number, no color name. Now I have to return them and wait for a replacement.

    Pamela did you ever put up the swatch and review video of these pencils? I can't find it if you did. When you put them in color order did you use the list on the tin lid or your own? I have tried using the lid but it's not exactly right. I dont use facebook so I cant check your group. Maybe I can find the color order somewhere.....

      This video should be coming out this weekend. I did not use the lid. Those colors were so out of order! I rearranged them all by undertone. You can find that very soon.

Thanks! Love your videos for beginners like myself🎨

    • @PamelasPassionforPencils

      I wouldn’t ever guarantee that any budget friendly set is going to be lightfast. This is one of the few sets that are budget friendly that don’t claim to be lightfast on their description on Amazon. There aren’t any lightfast rating symbols on the actual pencils and no information claiming to be lightfast on the tin they come in either. Hope this helps.

    If they say PAINTING its because they are also watercolors

    • @usandhuffs_art
      @usandhuffs_art 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have these pencils. I can confirm that some of the pigments move a little bit with water, but they are not a watercolor pencil by any means. "Painting" refers to the fact the medium can cover the surface you are using them on. 😇
