  • On the day before we started our Isle of Wight tour, I found had a problem with the motorised waste dump valve not opening, leaving me no way to empty the waste tank which was full of water!

    On the top of the valve when it fails there is a small screw mechanism they you can use to open and close the valve gate manually so can empty the tank before changing the valve

      Thanks, I realised that after I took it off. It takes forever to turn it manually to open the valve.

    A useful video Bob which highlights the 'mess' you can find yourself in if this valve motor fails whilst on the road. I have got to physically clean out the waste tank when back home, so I think I will look at a modification to fit a tee piece and ball valve between the tank and motorised valve. Belt and braces perhaps but could save the day.

    Hi Bob, I got my camper back last Tuesday after it had to have new underslung freshwater tank, it was the heater exhaust that had burnt a hole in the tank. I completely understand your frustration but fortunately you discovered it before you left ( I was already on holiday ) well done Bob, hard work there but a very good job. Have great tour ❤

      I had to empty the tank before we went anywhere too.

  • @LeisureBit
    @LeisureBit ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wonder why they keep failing, I’ve got on my “to do” list to fit similar to ours for draining the tanks but interested in why they might fail and why so much muck in the casing. Looks like they are very similar if not the same but yours was branded Sargent with a specific plug on. Not sure how much they charge for out of warranty replacement part.
    Looked like a fiddly job to remove. Nightmare when tanks are nearly full too. Well done for getting it fixed and sorted.
    Appreciate you sharing as it has me thinking and is really helpful as I will hopefully avoid an issue with mine on the back of your video 🤞
    All the very best - enjoy your trip.
    David 👍

      I suppose it's the dirty water getting in there through the gaps, messes up the solenoid.

  • @RobandLynnontour
    @RobandLynnontour ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Our fresh water valve has packed up again, luckily for us it’s still under warranty, but at least we can run all the fresh into the waste and then empty the waste

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've heard that it's the fresh water valve that fails most often, due to less use. I thought I'd be different. 🤔😀

  • @THEDBO
    @THEDBO ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I’m sure that the little dial on the top of the valve is there to manually open and close if it fails so you can empty the tank… enjoying the videos thanks 👍🏻

    The dreaded waste valve! Always go. My KS 596 solenoid also went. Had to say Sargent were top notch and sent me a replacement under warranty. If it goes again, I'm going down the manual route. Like a lot of things, you don't know how useful some things are until they don't work! Glad it didn't spoil your plans

    We have the same solenoids as yours on our 2017 Lifestyle but they did not fit the protective box back then. Thinking about ordering a couple now from Sargent. Enjoy your latest, hopefully incident free, tour-looking forward to your vlogs.

  • @brianreay4104
    @brianreay4104 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Adding a manual drain tap for emergency use, either T’d off the short straight section or in it, may be a good idea. Our tank has a manual valve inside. I’m dreading it failing closed and consider adding external and external tap and leaving the internal one open.

      @@BobEarnshawMoHo We always use a Wastemaster attached to our waste water pipe. That way, no mucky water stays in the tank to end up smelling. We just then wheel the Wastemaster to a drain when full.
