    As someone whos learned to slide in the last year or so another huge thing for me would be getting some decent safety gear, I've ended up getting kneepads, hip pads, and elbow pads as well as the basic gear. It is super nice to be able to eat it and get back up again and try again without being covered in road rash and bruises. It can for sure be expensive to get all the gear, but if you have the means I would highly recommend it when learning to slide. My favorite kneepads are the Sector 9 gaskets, or killer 187's, and g-form elbow pads have been a life saver a few times. Football hip pads also work well for under loose jeans.

      Got a specific hip pad recommendation?

      @@owencampbell777 g-forms or the TSG look like the ideal ones to me but can be pricy, I bought some off Amazon that mainly just protect my upper thigh’s and it’s helped some but I keep slammin on my hip so I’m lookin into getting one of those as they have dedicated spots to absorb the impact on my hips not just my upper thigh.

      I agree man. I had some thicc Manbi crash pads, with great hip and tailbone protection. They went suuuuch a long way. Took slams and got up like it was nothing. Highly recommend them.
      I recently picked ups some G-form hip pads, so interested to see how they hold up.

      football girdle: cheap indestructible washable bulky still the recommendation for me. 187 knee pads are really nice. agree with that guy.

    These are all golden advice. As someone who got into downhill by just sending and eating a lot of shit, listen to this guy, take all the tips to heart and you should be good to go. One tip I’d add is to always warm up and stretch before practicing anything downhill. It makes a huge difference. If your body is relaxed, you fall less, learn faster, and skate way better.

    Great video. Subscribed. How important do you guys think hip pads are for safety? Or could one get away with having to wear and buy them?

    Great video bro, I'm still in the 'getting comfortable on your board' stage but Downhill is one of my big long boarding goals.

    Yo do you ship stickers easily to the UK? I wanna buy some but not if it's gonna cost like £30 to ship them lol

    • @downhill254skate
      @downhill254skate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it costs like £1, but like, it takes 3-5months for you to get them. The post system here is so shit. Almost no worth sending any out at all. I'm gonna come up with a solution though and you'll be able to get some. Just gimme time

    So, I don’t want a downhill board, but I do want something that is not too hard to slide and that I can use for cruising as well. Something that I can use for multiple purposes that I can also learn to slide on. I already have the drop cat 33 but something tells me that it’s not great for sliding with those big grippy wheels.

    • @downhill254skate
      @downhill254skate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just get slider wheels and you're good to go :)

    • @jmank2001
      @jmank2001 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All ya would have to really do is throw some slidey wheels on the drop cat and it would def work to learn to slide on. Some good wheels would be powell snakes, orangatang fat frees, or another not super hard lipped wheel.

      loaded kanthaka and remember lil hoots. u cruise through the city, kickflip obstacles, learn how to slide within a few hours and then 50mph down a hill. that thing got it all :D

      DOn't think most can go 50mph on a Kanthaka

      @@downhill254skate hey mate, i guess it takes a while. i did ride 50km/h+, i think i never cracked 50 mph on it tho yet. but there is actually a really sick rider, think it was scott mano or some other rider featured on meat media that chopped of the tail and nose and did sent it in such a crazy way. but i agree it is nothing alot of people can do. but it definitely does everything.
      and yeah i kickflip with it and all that stuff, cause i started streetskating 20 years ago and kinda just switched into downhill 1-2 years ago. maybe i am just different to what normal people prefere
      edit:: wanna mention i do not ride lil hoots when going fast :D that is crazy
