Having no one around me to learn with, or from, your videos have taught me everything I know. Thank you for the amazing breakdowns! Extremely helpful 😁
Second this right here… I don’t know anybody who longboards, and have never actually seen any of these slide techniques performed outside of you tube. Downhill254 and others, primarily in the r/longboarding Reddit community, have made it possible for me to learn and grow as a skater.
I was on the same boat! The ones that do longboard around me are beginners too and not as motivated to do it now that it's cold. I'm all in for this tho. If it's dry and there's a light source, I'm working on my technique. Hope to start a crew of peeps who love this as much as I do
Very helpful, I had to practice more and return back to this video a few times for reference for it to fully click through experience but I nailed it in a few sessions thanks to Abuga's detailed information. Excellent TH-cam Channel for all your skate needs! *****This guy needs more sponsors and free gear to review!
This is one of the best videos i have watched so far. The exploration with thr viauals really help me understand exactly is needed. I am definitely in downhill school right now. Study hard as all the parts for the board arrive.
Attempted both heel side and toe side glove down slide for the first time today on my new board. Heel side turned out to be a really unatural maneuver for my body, so thats why I'm rewatching this. The toe side attempt I actually broke traction quite easily after a few tries. Thanks for putting all this info out!
I'm really a great fan of your website where you can actually read all the stuff you tell in your videos. Sometimes it just helps a lot having your information in textform so you process it differently. Absolute high quality guides as usual! You're a saint for giving us this
Much love bro! Yeah having both is important, people learn differently and need different ways of digesting stuff. I much prefer written stuff with pictures and videos to illustrate things.
Thank you so much for all these detailed breakdowns on DH techniques. If it wasn't for this channel and Longboard Fam, I would have been struggling to learn to freeride. I wish more people would take the time to talk about their thoughts on DH/Freeride. The more accessible knowledge we have at our disposal serves the sport to become less intimidating for people wanting to take it up. Carve safe longbro, Axé!!
Let me know what you think of the video! Pretty nervous about this one - loads of ways to do a pendy and I may have a chose a not too easy one (for everyone cause you need to be semi - comfortable in the box position) to learn. Let me know what you guys think, could always change the video up a bit. . Also, there was supposed to be music but my premiere pro crashed ... It didn't save and I forgot to re-add it when I exported it. Anyway, it took like an hour to export the video (no idea why) so not exporting it again, no time for it today
Thanks much. I just came back from a sesh where I tried Colemans but damn I should've watched this video first. I mustered up enough balls to go fast but kept on going full 180 and looking up the hill without really understanding how not to. Next sesh will be better, after I've healed several scrapes 😅
I have a fear of thin roads. When going faster the curbs seem to be so close and I don't have the space to initiate the slide. Any tips? On wide hills i can do Colemans and a few stand-ups just fine
Nice video. I never got the pendy part. My Coleman's feel like I swing too much into them. It shoots me really fast into the 180 and I can't get it back. I'll dedicate a session just to my Coleman's and try to use your tips.
I practice this slide in flat place, although i could perform the slide, but the board kinda rotates 180 degree ... Somethimes It stopped because of low speed like you 've said
So I have the drop cat 33 and find it hard to make my rear foot on its side/flat without resting it on the baseplate or placing my front foot on my tippy toes, which I now realize is bad as you need to keep your front foot planted. Should I return it for the drop cat 38' or do I not need to make my rear foot flat really
I'd go with a wider board. The 33 is really narrow and unless you have impeccable flexibility you'll always struggle. If you're doing more downhill than cruising, then perhaps it might be time for a porper dh board?
I havnt tried sliding yet, only hands down carving but I find it extremely difficult to heelside turn without grabbing rail. Whenever I do not grab I always put too much weight on my hand and feel like I can’t return back onto the board without pushing off the road with my fingers which I can’t do while moving. Any tips? Much appreciated!
@@downhill254skate yes I can however my lower legs are quite a bit longer than the average person so I have the mobility but it’s just harder for me to get my butt to the ground.
Hey dude, great video! When I try the slide my board usually throws me forward. Its possible that my extremely thick and grippy wheels (hawgs 70mm supreme wheels bc I used to live in flatlands) are stopping too fast and causing me to launch forward off the board but I was wondering if you have had any experience with this and if you have any tips about my stance regarding it. If I lean farther back is this less likely to happen?
Just replying so you don't waste your time coming up with a response. I realized I just didn't have enough speed. I was on a parking lot with a slight incline (bc it had a lot of room to turn) and I was going so slow that sliding just made me stop instantly which threw me off. I went out on a steeper road today and messed my leg up but eventually got the slide down to the point where all I need to do is commit more often and stand back up. Thanks for such a great video!
When you are getting info the box position, do you have your weight on your heels? Its really hard for me to keep my weight back while I'm getting low, could be because I'm tall or not flexible enough. I feel like I can't start turning until my hand is on the ground, and even then I feel like I have too much weight on my hand.
Sounds like you're not putting enough weight on the front wheels to get them to slide nicely. But could also be the choice of wheels and maybe you don't have spacer which leads to wheel chatter. Feel free to dm me on insta with a video and I'll give you some advice
Hi :) I met your channel a few days ago! its content is very good and very detailed man! but I'm kind of desperate... I followed all the tips, how to adjust the shoulders, foot placement, and still I can't swing back!! I don't know if my wheels are making the slide difficult (Size: 70mm. Hardness 83a. Width: 50mm. Contact area: 48mm.), I'm trying with higher speeds (about 35 km/h) and the result is always the same , that is, with the skateboard turning 180 degrees without going back to the original position... I recorded a video with 2 attempts I made and uploaded it to my channel, could you please give me some advice on what might be going wrong? * An important detail is that when the skateboard starts to lose grip, I don't push my back foot, I just pre-carve and hold the side of the shape. I've tried several times to throw my arm in the other direction for the skateboard to come back but it doesn't work! Thank you in advance for your attention!
1st of all, glad you're using the content. 2nd, huge thanks for uploading a video so I can watch and look at it, it's so helpful and will allow m,e to give you better advice. I noticed a few issues. The first is you're not going fast enough! Go much faster. Second, you're not swinging out fast enough, as soon as your hand touches the ground, start swinging out Three, Don't swing all the way to 180*, swing to a more shallow angle, like maybe 130*, it will be easier to then swing back. Four, try it without grabbing the board! Try those things and let m know what you think.

The secret is getting low quicker and positioning your body. You also have to load the board by putting your weight in the right spots.
What busgy said. Just get low quicker or exhaggerate the setup carve quicker. It's a skill in it's own to slide no a narrow road

Does it still work effectively if you are going at a jogging speed while skateboarding?
Ive been having problems with how it works?
You're gonna have to go kjinda fast. thats why I reocmmended a hill
Where do you buy your skateboards and how are they delivered to you if so?
i buy from us or uk shops. I then use freight forwarders to bring them here. US - Kentex cargo. UK - Something random (Actual name of the shop)

For me the back wheels slide quickly around, but the front wheels often slide very bad, if at all. Too less speed?
