It's nice seeing a younger hilda tloubatla in this rare video
I'm happy because some are still alive
Bought this cassette in Montreal in 1985, still listen to it regularly. The most joyful music I have ever heard.
I bought this disc in 1973 ... couldn't stop playing it @23
Trust me aside the music, I'm in line with the visuals. That's when south Africans 🇿🇦🇿🇦 were true Africans. Much love from Ghana 🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭
貴重な映像!ありがとうございます❤

ME TOO I REMEMBER MY FATHER
I attended two of their shows at Gwanzura Stadium in 1964 & 1968 in Zimbabwe; it's undescribable. Vaigona❤RIP
And now you're 41 🤭 time flies neh
Ak'shayi ngoma Max Mankhwane!
God bless Mahlathini and the Queens, their music is pure sunshine, has got me through some very difficult times feel blessed to know and love their music here in Europe.
I was just about to comment this song is pure sunshine before reading your comment
Umculo awupheli. The music never ends.
Wohe The best group ever. Pure music, pure talent, pure message. Those were the days. What more can I say?
I had no idea that Bow Wow Wow stole this song wholesale.
I like that version, but I LOVE this one!
Malcolm McLaren stole a lot of stuff.
Who’s still here on 2019?
That's one of the groups you would buy their music on blindfold and be sure not to regret it. All of them, ranging from their producer, the late West "S'bhubhudlela" Nkosi, Ntate Marks Mankwane( lead guitarist), Baba uVivian Ngubane (rhythm guitarist), Ntate Joseph Makhwela (bassguitarist) the ladies and the rest were and they are still our legends.Salute to all of you look ladies and gentlemen, the fathers mothers of the present day musicians.
Thank you for sharing the details. Great and timeless music.
❤ thanks for the details some of which we were forgetting , like some of the band members.
This footage is INCREDIBLE!
I love them so much. Thanks for posting.
the lead singer was drop dead gorgeous
i heard these ladys 40 yrs ago on john peel radio 1 with the matella king
Sometimes I wonder how much these ladies were paid. It's sad when you find out they were paid peanuts with the label still taking thousands to this day.
Nothing was fake in those days, only pure talent made it to the top. This song became a Coca Cola advert, where lyrics were altered to say ''Coca Cola never ends". My first ever live concert I attended as a toddler were these guys.
what is a woman....guys
Marks Mankwane is still a legend. May his soul rest in peace
Hello beautiful and lovely people across the globe, I came here again today Wednesday June 1st, 2022 to listen to this great tune. Let me know if you're here. Once again much love from Ghana 🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭
Thanks for the glorious memory!!!
Came here after seeing them on the idris elba documentary on Mandela, dad and me, I don't understand anything but I love it, much much love from Kenya
Music at its best
What a beautiful voice Mildred Mangxola. This is what we call music
Rangwane Moitsiemang Nkwamba Sabata A Machola, the one who made me love this original pure music 👌😍💪
Thank you so much. It's wonderful to hear from someone who has grown up listening to the Mahotella Queens and still remembers their wonderful voices! They are indeed an inspiration (it's hard to believe the Queens are still recording and performing even today). So nice to hear that you are introducing your children to this music... I will be uploading some more of these early Queens songs very soon, so please keep a look out for them. Many thanks!
Suráfrica a tus pies.
The one legacy that apartheid could not take away from us this was our heart and soul took away all the pain of the physical barriers imposed on the majority of our beloved land.
Its been replaced now with pathetic imitations of US hip hop...this was uniquely ours and shouldnt have been allowed to die...
@@Ngenazkayiagreed. and ours is not the only music culture destroyed by imperialistic American culture.
@@Ngenazkayi it's definitely not dead. If you listen carefully you will hear it, it's everywhere.
It took me 3 hours to get this song..
This was my grandma's music. Please post more of the early Mahotella Queens music. Lovely arrangement.
Thank you for your comments... I'll be uploading some more of those 1960s and 1970s Mahotella Queens songs shortly. Stay tuned!
Gone are those days although mother passed away during 1973 may her soul (mamgobhozi) rest in peace
I love this song, and great video never seen before, thanks for putting up :)
Remember this song when I was still young, great group. I love them.
Hilda Tloubatha, Ngobesuthu, Mildred, Lucky Mnama, Marks Mankwana, Joseph Makhwela, etc, you lit our youthful world at the time when Mbaqanga music was the heartbeat of our entertainment.
That is just about the best thing I've ever seen on youtube!
Super music
Who is here in 2020? 😊😊😊😊😊😊 umculo kawupheli
Huge piece of history for us. Hot track!
Magnificent stuff. A real dancefloor filler. I love it since I first heard John Peel play it.
I still wish to rejuvenate this music. I am not sure if we still have those talented artists who can really play this sound
Mahotella Queens are just amazing and talented beyond measure, they enrich the lives of all who hear their beautiful music. Brings back memories of my childhood growing up in South Africa. Thanks for sharing with us.
Wonderful to bring the oldies back. But there are more that are not brought . Think of this groups Izamambo girls, the Que sisters, etc
Thanks so much! There's some more Queens stuff of this time still to come, believe me....!
2021 love you
You have got to respect this man, Mzansi so rich, even in 2017 people im kicking the doors with this track *FULL-VOLUME*
As many times as I've watched this, the song never fails to bring tears of joy to my eyes!
oh! yes i remember this tune very well, i was 10 years old, these ladies were truly
& still the Queens of african. just missin' my home town Durban & off course
lovely Kwamashu Township where i grew up.
And... music will always be there - whether one is happy or sad - soothing.
Many many thanks for your kind comments on my videos, Duncanzibar! Wonderful to hear from you. Yes, I also love this music... it's too irresistable for words. Rest assured I will be uploading some more of the Queens' early hits over the next few months.. so stay tuned.
loving this song
You're very welcome. I'll have to post my responses in two parts, as TH-cam doesn't like me going over the character limit!!
I guess that any "Best of" collection you can find provides a good summary of the Queens' career. I can recommend the brilliant albums "Thokozile", "Paris - Soweto", and "Melodi Yalla" - these late 1980s albums (all now on CD) really capture the sound of Mahlathini & the Queens at the time of their first wave of international success.
Multitalented guys... guitars saxophones vocals hey
Their music is super. Look at the dress code before the devil brought nudity. Great ❤
I saw this group twice only at Gwanzura Stadium in then Salisbury (now Harare) in Zimbabwe, in 1964 and 1968 at 17. Their shows were electrifying....Bra Marks on lead guitar was undescribable also Joseph Makwela on bass guitar, Vivian Ngubane on rhythm... In Shona we say, Vanhu vakanaka havarurame (English... The good don't live long) Rest In Power
Long live to the Mahotella Queens.
True African Queens💗
Great song! I'd love to see more of the old studio films!! This song is Available on the cd "Soweto Never Sleeps". This song was ripped off by the UK band Bow Wow Wow and turned into the song "Jungle Boy" in 1981.
Bow Wow Wow manager, Malcolm McLaren, was responsible for that. He even claimed a writing credit. He went on to rip off the Boyoyo Boys for his song Double Dutch.
Thanks so much! I have several Mahotella Queens LPs (yes, vinyl) and love them all but this song is my all time fav of theirs. Can't believe it's not on any of the currently available compilations!
Im listing from Maputo Mozambique 2020,
Great vocal band - over time they got bigger and bigger .
this is so stunning, these lovely songbirds & talented musicians just kill me; i could watch & listen to this all day. thanks for making up this video, I saw them in the US in 1991 but never thought to hope of seeing them at home in the 70s!! love the record shop scene so much!
Yep still listening to this number in 2020. Happy New year guys
Fantastic video - a real work of art.
It’s sad this never got airplay in North America, it would’ve changed everything
Heard it on radio bantu in 1976 in Jhb
With Maeketso Maotwe

I cannot get over how young they look!!! Way to go Nick!
So sad, the song is not at spotify :(
waaal nice
wow..this took me back to the slums of Winterveldt..this was our kinda music..miss those days eishh.thanks for the video.
Wow, he really is a legend. I first heard of him because he produced the Green Arrows album re-released analog africa label, since then I have seen his name coming up everywhere... such a shame he died so young.
This song was released on the LPs "Duck Food" and "Soweto Never Sleeps - Classic Female Zulu Jive". I think both are now on CD, but you can find the record releases on eBay from time to time.
Alternatively there's a CD from the UK called "The Best of Mahotella Queens - The Township Idols", released in 2003, which is still available to buy and has this song on it. Hope I helped...
The real roots music.
Beauty tune.
music never ends.. it keeps the job ongoing.. umculo uhambisa umsebenzi
R.I.P. Nobesuthu Gertrude Mbadu Shawe who passed away yesterday, 31st. August 2021 😔😞🙏🙏 R.I.P. Sister.🙏🙏
May her soul rest in peace .Amen
West Nkosi(johannes Hlongwane from Nelspruit) should be celebrated and awarded doctorate pot humus
Now to continue... the early sound of the group (1960s/70s) are captured brilliant in the already-mentioned "Soweto" as well as "Putting on the Light". Mahlathini's fantastic, gritty '70s solo songs can be found on the CDs "The Lion of Soweto" and "King of the Groaners". Related acts: Makgona Tsohle Band (Mahlathini & the Queens backing band), Abafana Baseqhudeni (something of a male counterpart to the Queens), Izintombi Zesi Manje Manje, and (even earlier) the Dark City Sisters.
Hope I helped!
History... Beautiful song.
Fantastic in the extreme.
uWest.....king of saxophone, Mahotella Queens were hot hot
Hello. Can somebody help me with translates of Mahotella Queens songs as Umasihlalisane? Thanks, it is for my people of Colombia that loves that music but do not understand it.
Thank you for commenting... yes, they do have really sweet voices. This song is basically a ode to themselves, kind of like a tribute to mbaqanga (the style of music that they play). It says how the Mahotella Queens always bring the house down and how their music shows no end to stopping (The title "Umculo Kawupheli" means "the music will never end").
Excellent, many thanks.
Memory lane😭
There's a fantastic Mahotella Queens song which features another classic performance from Marks Maponyane - the guitar solo kicks in after they sing, "go tshenyegile" (it was crowded). I'd love to find that song again somewhere, but meanwhile I'll keep savouring this one.
oh my God. awesome. kumnandi
Many thanks
Where are you in South Africa, lovely song
