If you're interested in getting a Twin Otter of your own - they will be back in stock around February of 2025. Backorders may be placed here: tailheavyrc.com/products/twin-otter-80e-super-pnp Bounce one on for us!
Quite a fascinating video. I spent most of my aviation career flying (real) Twin Otters, and I am the person who wrote the AFM for the actual aircraft and did all the flight testing for the Series 400 Twin Otter during 2009-2011. You mentioned instability in flight when floats are installed. On the actual aircraft, when floats are installed, small finlets are added to the horizontal stabilizer to provide longitudinal stability. You may want to consider adding finlets to the model aircraft when it is fitted with floats to solve the same problem.
Sweet! But hey...this is a "real" twin otter, too. Just not full scale! You're correct, and I'm sure also aware that many full scale aircraft add finlets both to the horizontal stab and/or a larger vertical stab addition underneath the existing vertical stab. Most RC manufacturers don't bother with them and at the RC scale because you don't notice the difference as much.
I enjoy the honesty of your reviews. Your style of flying is a little bit beyond mine. I have purchased 2 planes because of them. Keep up the good work.
Makes my day when you guys post, unfortunate that it's been less frequent lately. Thanks for bringing new life to the hobby, hope you guys are doing well.
That's one thing I knew about the Aura gyro, their factory gains are very high and twitchy. You gotta calibrate it down a bit to smoothen out your flight.
Built my own plane for a total of $75 it was about a 1400mm size and was built to my liking. I spend about a week in my free time cutting up dollar tree foam board and electronics in there lmao. On the 6th flight I stalled and spun it low to the ground and it was totaled. Being a “full scale pilot”, I got no idea how that happened 😭.Either way, I am more satisfied knowing I built something that flies other than buying off of Chinese companies.
I used to love the hobby as a young kid but my dad took a break from flying and building and I am starting to get back into it. I didn’t get any help when learning to fly besides just being handed a radio.
Flex makes the best flying planes. Period But they also produce some of the lowest quality planes. That’s not to say the quality is bad, it’s just lower than what we’ve become used to.
OK, so I want one, but that's a lot of money for a foamie! I know it's not really the same, but FlightTest does have a foamboard version of this plane,
pls help me i crash like 20 rc planes i can only fly my planes about 1 min after 1 min i crash my planes i dont know what to do some one help me and i never have land any rc plane what do i do?
Well there are many videos online how to fly RC planes. The advices I can give you are: don't fly in heavy wind, find somebody that can fly RC planes so he can help you and try to avoid bad planes ( like those which are steering just by thrust and don't have controll surfaces). Hope that this helped
The quick cut of “You’re mom” LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOO That caught me so off guard during a normal review i literally paused the video and a slow chuckle turned into a hard LOL that my gf came into the room to see what had happened 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You're right that that flaps aren't needed to hover - and we've never claimed you need them to in the first place. We dumbed down the aero explanation to not get too technical in a video like this, but the easiest way to describe it in short form was as it being similar to thrust vectoring from the flaps being close to the source of thrust, creating a nose-down moment. Of course, there's still the fact that the thrust line is high, too, which also adds to the nose-down moment. Happy landings!
I love this overview format. But I'm sure gentle flying could increase its endurance a lot more than the single minute you suggested. When I hammer my FPV Timber, it will devour 55 amps. But I can keep it aloft at less than 4. If you could fly the way you did for 5 minutes, I am pretty sure the same 5000 mah 6s could yield at least 20 minutes a calm Sunday afternoon.
Hi guys! I'm looking forward buying a Beta 1400 plane but I don't know if it doesn't have some fatal flaws. So if it wasn't a problem, could you make a review on that plane?
Honestly the largest problem with the plane is just fit and finish. The paint is super flaky, and my battery tray sides came off. If it didn't fly so well I would have regretted buying it.
You ain't gonna get any negativity here, just the standard fluff about how floaty it is. As if that justifies blokes spending tons of quid on a plane that's riddled with problems.
@demondoggy1825 Bummer to hear about the battery tray sides! We noticed some paint chipping near where the struts join the fuse which is also where you go to install the strut clips. Some of our friends got the paint matched, but we haven't needed it quite yet. Our 170 that we've had for several years is definitely due for a touch up. Since Flex injects their foam less densely than their competitors to save weight, paint doesn't stick as well. Quique has informed us the majority of airplanes they produce moving forward that are foam will not be painted, but will have stickers.

I used to love the hobby as a young kid but my dad took a break from flying and building and I am starting to get back into it. I didn’t get any help when learning to fly besides just being handed a radio.
It's about time Zach, been missin the vids!
Love My Twin Otter. This is the most Majestic and Aerobatic package I've ever flown. AND with Differential Trust it does Magic maneuvers.

I was looking on twin otter to buy it
after years of waiting
a new tailheavy video emerges from the deep
i wished you could produce everyday
so, they started putting better hinges in them?
For a while now, Flex has been using the dubro style ones, yep!
Crazy intro. That looked so cool.

Do you have any exprecience with the 1.2M T 28 from E flite? Cause im lookin for a new relaxing plane.
We do! It's a great plane, but be weary of the nose gear retract when flying off of grass consistently.
@@TailHeavyProductions alr thanks! so its better to avois hard landings on the nose gear?
Another day to pull the debit Card outta my Yu-Gi-Oh deck
OK, so I want one, but that's a lot of money for a foamie! I know it's not really the same, but FlightTest does have a foamboard version of this plane,

You’re just Flex hype boys now. That’s not like thrust vectoring at all and you shouldn’t need flaps to hover.

-- What? Radome is not fixed to aircraft with quick release locks, there is your problem!
I wished they made a short nose add on
Shit. I may have a hover fetish.

Thanks! For sure - we just try to understate with our estimates to not ruffle any feathers.

Unfortunately, we do not have plans to review that plane. Sorry!
Get the Durafly tundra v3 tailheavy
I dunno why the title isn't everything you otter know
😂
Dude said your mom. Nice try bud, I got two dads pfft
