I havent seen it yet but the balooning budget of this one fascinates me. Its like 4x more up to 200m, and it seems like this movie will earn significantly less than the first, so their profit margins are also gonna be "underwhelming". Part of people who saw J1 out of FOMO due to its lighting in a bottle moment did not like it enough to see the second one , part of people dont like musicals, i heard some divisive opinions on the ending twist too, so yeah it will be a tough climb for this movie considering the overall negative buzz.
Your review is actually one of the more positive ones I saw, a few other reviewers were quite harsher on the musical parts and courtroom segment.
Personally after seeing the reviews and hearing what apparently unfolds in the movie I am really excited to see it. Someone even recommended to watch both movies back to back, like a 5 hour single story.
    Good review, keep cooking👍

Completely agree with you, the movie was a dissapointment. It isn't bad by any means it's just ok.
The single scene-to-scene action is great, but the totality of the project gets messy. It's kind off like they tried uniting three cool ideas into one movie (courtroom/polit thriller, musical and the storyline at Arkham). It resulted in a movie that feels conflicting in what it wants to be/say. The musical elements especially felt a bit out of place, as if the story has to halt everytime it's plot for a second (not saying they are completlely useleless however)
Plus there were surprisingly few moments of "folie a deux"; Harley seemed like an interesting character to be explored, but as you said: got sidelined pretty much
Other than that: Praise to the lighting technicians and the director of photography as well as for Hildur Guðnadóttir for reprising her role as composer.

I turned the 1st one off after 10 minutes. It was so pretentious, I couldn't do it. I've watched too many 70's crime drama's to take it seriously. Not interested in this one either. Bullitt; The French Connection, The Seven Ups, Magnum Force, The Parallax View, 3 Days of the Condor; all better films. All better acting, character development, plot twists and cinematography. It's like the new generation of movie goers forgot to watch the films that inspired the filmmakers of today and don't realize how they're watching re-hashed knock-offs. Pay the cash and dive into the Criterion Collection and stop hyping up overrated make-overs.
Good review by the way. Short and sweet. Thanks man!
