Jacinta follows a young woman in and out of prison as she attempts to break free from an inherited cycle of addiction, incarceration and crime. Filmed for over three years, Jacinta begins at the Maine Correctional Center where Jacinta, 26, and her mother Rosemary, 46, are incarcerated together, both recovering from drug addiction. As a child, Jacinta became entangled in her mother's world of drugs and crime and has followed her in and out of the system since she was a teenager. This time, as Jacinta is released from prison, she hopes to maintain her sobriety and reconnect with her own daughter, Caylynn, 10, who lives with her paternal grandparents. Despite her desire to rebuild her life for her daughter, Jacinta continually struggles against the forces that first led to her addiction. With unparalleled access and a gripping vérité approach, director Jessica Earnshaw paints a deeply intimate portrait of mothers and daughters and the effects of trauma over generations.

I laughed and cried as well. I could see so much of my daughter in her. Sadly my beautiful daughter Casey did not make it out and died of an accidental overdose within 24 hours of leaving her treatment facility early. At one point in the film I was sobbing thinking Jacinta wasn’t going to make it. It makes my heart so happy to see her doing so well. This mama is vested now, totally rooting for you.

As a recovering addict, it is clear that Jacinta is not your typical sensationalized, formulaic documentary about drugs and addiction. Instead, it focuses on the whole person and the humanity of those who suffer from this disease. Thank you to Jacinta and Jessica for sharing this film with the world.

This is as a beautiful documentary 👏👏I too went thru this same drug addiction and I struggled with relapse in methadone programs But..was so blessed to walk away the first time I went through with hospitals help.. thank you Jesus .. good luck on your journey 💜

The filmmaker had Narcan? Jacinta DEFINITELY knew that ... being a recovering addict & professional manipulator, I'm sure that was a "safety net" enabling Jacinta to use. I know 100% it would have for me. JHC!

I usually like Sarah but she is obnoxious in this. We didn't come here to hear her talk. She cannot even let Jacinta get an answer out before rambling on again.
I was thinking the same thing, she keeps rambling with her questioning…ask a question and let the talk! Ask a SHORT question so the girl knows how to answer too. You almost forget what she was asking because she rambles on after asking the question!

I really like Sarah Paulson as an actress but as an interviewer she is really terrible. She asks a question and then proceeds to ramble on after and I think it sometimes confuses Jacinta on what the original question was in the first place. It’s not like cut and dry questioning and it’s annoying to watch.
It may just be me but Jacinta looks so. Wet sad in her eyes …
