Nice to see a take on this that isn't blindly blaming Nexon for everything thats happened. Its a shame KV went this way but DynamisOne isn't blameless. Great video, keep up the good work :)
I'm glad you enjoyed the video 🙏 Yea it was interesting talking to people who were closer to the case and also to people in Korea about the perception of Nexon there and understanding the love(?)-hate relationship devs there have with it. While it does feel like Nexon is at fault for allowing a build up to this point it can't be said that the complete failure of this project is on their shoulders too as either way the leads in Dynamis should've anticipated the difficulty they'd face and prepared for it especially with the content they had released initially.
I honestly and completely agree Dynamis One should have hunker down and try to pull through with the release of Project KV. Even if all of the allegations are true, the worst crime they would commit would still be cancelling the project as fast as it did. We literally got 1 teaser! Barely a glimpse into what could have been. Not even enough lifetime to show beyond it's foundations. I really wish it was given enough time to show off more.
Yea for all we known it could've actually been quite a different game with just a aesthetic similarity which would likely not warrant any action from Nexon. If they had pulled through that would've given people enough proof for some of the uproar to end as well but yea... the cancellation speed was crazy
They could've not capitulated to Nexon like Dark & Darker devs did. But yeah, it needed more creative ideas & better management than whatever concept art they managed to make before its shutdown.
Before the controversy, I initially told my friends that "Okay, it might be a copy of Blue Archive's themes, but if the gameplay is different enough, I'll definitely give it a shot. Otherwise, I'd just play BA." I am sad that the people who were genuinely working hard on this game now have to face the consequences from poor management from the higher ups. I'm sure they'll get back on their feet, one way or another, but it's still sad to see that these people took a risk by leaving BA and it didn't work out in their favor... As for DynamisOne... I still have mixed feelings. I've already said my thoughts on the last video, and some of those still hold true, but... I can agree that it is sad to see a project die like that so abruptly. I wanted to be proven wrong and that there wasn't anything truly malicious happening, and that Project KV could co-exist with BA... Guess we'll never see that reality, and we'll likely never hear the full truth of the matter either.
If we do hear more on the case I feel like it'll be like 5 - 10 years in the future if a journalist manages to interview the tops of Dynamis One after all this has blown over but who knows... either way it is quite sad that it had to end this way for all the people involved. Hopefully they manage to bounce back from this and make something interesting in the end though
Agreed man. They probably felt the need to put out something as soon as possible to show Shift Up and Yostar. Maybe they put the trailer out so quickly because felt that they needed to show that there was demand of the game since it would put them in directly competition with BA.
@@mottower That could've very well been a posibility as well yea. Since we don't know when Shift Up exactly told them they wanted to see a working prototype it could've very well been due to the trailer for all we know.
It certainly was a confusing whirlwind of events. One moment of obliviousness, one of confusion, one of "are they serious about this?", and then the cancellation. Very odd as to how it happened at all, and it went very fast.
I had a friend with industry experience put out his theory: the employees on the DynamisOne team had thin skin and enough of them got spooked by the publicity and rumor-mongering and bailed that it crippled their development efforts.
It certainly does sound like a possibility. This may not be much proof of anything but people who went by their Dynamis' office location to see if they could get a clue mentioned that there was no board up on the building for the company there so it could mean they've moved out, never put one up or never used that office itself.
This whole fiasco has reminded me of various other incidents over the years. There is the recent Palworld vs Nintendo and Yandere Simulator to an extent. I specifically want to talk about the mismanagement. For Yandere Sim, it mostly came down to the decisions of one man and while we don’t really know what went down behind Dynamis’ doors, I cant help but feel that there are some similarities. Like you said, it’s strange that they rushed to get a trailer out before even having a working prototype. Even The Day Before had a vertical slice to scam everyone into giving their money. I feel particularly bad for those employees that did leave Nexon and to contractors like Mitsukiyo who either are outright blacklisted or now have to deal with this awkward relationship with the current BA team/Nexon. As outlandish as this situation has become, I find it hard to believe that they didn’t have any foresight of what could happen when they did the things that they did. Thanks for posting this video btw. As weird as it seems, this KV stuff was on my mind way too much and I can now move on thanks to you giving it a sort of ending to this.
Hopefully everyone can now move on from this yea. Though with the freelancers at least if they already had some work with Nexon they can still claim ignorance since there's a very real possibility that they didn't know what was happening in the company and could be innocent. Though it would be really rough for the employees who left to join on this venture. Hope at least they manage to put something interesting out in the future
My apologies. That would've made for a much cooler video as that was one of my favorite tank series in CoH2. Maybe if I ever manage to get in contact with a tank otaku over here in Japan I'll make that video XD
Nexon didn't even have to do anything (outwardly or immediately), it was really the KR fanbase that had severe issues with KV and the fact BA is KR -> JP yet KR gets it on global's schedule 6 months later didn't help. I'm just sad we didn't even get to see a prototype, you are correct in that everyone lost. History has shown that it's sort of hard to copy yourself (IGA did it wonderfully with Bloodstained, Inafune not so wonderfully with MN9), but at least those projects got to see the light of day.
Yea it would've been nice if they at least managed to get it out to market or at least if we got to see a prototype since at least we could've seen how close they would've even gotten to the original and whether there would've been anything for people to even be mad about. I've recently heard of a fan attempt to try and recreate the IP as well (not VK but something else) and it's like... what are they even going to recreate when all we had were key visuals, we don't even know what the game would've been : /
Given that Nexon killed Combat Arms by sheer mismanagement, I was thinking that they were the culprits this time too. It's kinda insane that they announced a game without showing the actual game so the most stupid kids could differentiate one from another. Dynamus One shot themselves in the foot so many times that it is difficult to reason with. It's easier to believe in sabotage or an elaborate joke, but then again, we are talking about ex NEXON employees, so I think that a fruit doesn't fall far from the tree. The saddest part for me is not fully knowing the KV character. They were so gorgeous.
One thing that many people from Korea did push back on when I initially told them about the Nexon part was that if Nexon did put legal pressure on Dynamis One they wouldn't do it sneakily like companies in Japan where I work usually do. Nexon being Nexon they'd parade it around and flex it to the press like they did the Dark & Darker lawsuit which looking at their past trends it made sense. Nexon’s behavior during the whole situation (basically saying and doing as little as possible publicly) suggests to me that they did not want the situation to linger for any longer than it had to and just wanted the whole thing to be in the past. Probably because actively feuding with your ex-employees (regardless of who is in the right) is a really bad look. My personal theory is they privately threatened D1 with a lawsuit/C&D unless they stopped working on PKV, and D1 seeing the way the wind was blowing simply agreed to it. Maybe D1 did it on their own volition without any legal threats but the specific statement that they’re destroying all PKV-related materials seems a little wierd if it’s not being compelled by some outside force. Frankly it is in both party’s best interest to NOT get involved in a lawsuit.
Yea it really does seem like one of those situations that no one would want going to a lawsuit due to all the behind the scenes information that could potentially come out that they would have to provide for the court proceedings. Which is more a shame for us than for them if anything since it means that we won't really get to know what truly went on behind the scenes.

Was planning to make it earlier kinda like with the Konami one but it feels like with Nintendo the suit may end up more complex than the one Konami brought so it might be less worthwhile speculating 2 days into it being brought up so I decided to wait
kisaki is coming baby
Finally after all this time
I'm doomed of only having 12k... I got lucky on bunny neru, but whiffed 4 pulls on Karin...
This controversy reminds me of mighty number 9 and Playstation All Star. The former was praised during the initial reveal, and the latter immediately became a meme as Smash Bros. rip-off.
I feel like if the team took more time "cooking" before unveiling to the public, we could have avoided this controversy, or at least it wouldn't be this bad.
Yea, it does feel like a lot of it could've been avoided if they had prepped more content for this initial announcement. that and maybe delay it a little more so the people who were suspicious of the project wouldn't have as much reason to be so.
