I have since found out from the owner of this engine that it has been run on Morgan's Cool Power 15% nitro, pure synthetic fuel only. Very interesting information as the internals were in very good condition and easily cleaned.

what was the solution that you used to clean those parts? and was that a ring cleaner that you put all the parts into?

      Hi David! :-)
I've always run pure synthetic oil and the internal parts have always only had that dark brown film as long as I make sure to get all of the nitro and methanol out at the end of the day, there was never any rust either, even without after run oil and even if they have sit for months at a time.
Very little baked on black mess on the outside either, even if there was a leak around the exhaust or backplate, although, I do always use a bit of alcohol and a "Q" tip to remove any oil. Yeah, I'm kind of anal about everything looking clean (At least on my tools and toys :-D )
Question: When you run across an engine that has been stored in a damp environment that causes the aluminum to look heavily oxidized (including those black spots), does the LA's Totally Awesome Cleaner while in the Ultrasonic Cleaning machine help to restore the original appearance?
I ask because I just bought an old OS FS-70 Surpass that is dark looking with a few black spots and I really want to restore it to as close to original as I can.
I may have to use some extra fine crushed glass in my sandblasting cabinet to restore it to original. Anything heavier than extra fine grade crushed glass would be to aggressive on the aluminum. I would also have to use a low air pressure like 40 to 45 psi
BTW, I find your videos very helpful!!
      Thank you, David! :-)

No unfortunately LA's cleaner does NOT clean up oxidized AL. short of bead blasting, I do not have a solution for cleaning up discolored cases.

Yeah, I didn't really think it would but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask someone who knows better than me. :-)
I plan to buy an ultrasonic cleaner and some LA's Cleaning Solution in the next day or two so I can clean some parts. Thanks for the tips on that method!
      Thank you so much!!
      Have a great day! :-)

Great video Dave as always.. I know, that you most likely already know this, but I'll throw it out there anyway.. If you throw that cylinder
head/ into a small crockpot full of half antifreeze half water dilution within a half an hour every little crack and crevice would be as clean as the day it was unboxed.. I've tried many of different ways to remove burnt castor and none are superior to this method.. I'm totally aware of the safety precautions needed.. I always boil in the outdoors and I'll usually never take the lid off until the solution is cool.. Nothing that I've tried works better.. Although, I'm a huge fan of the totally awesome as well.. That shit kicks ass !!! Thanks brother.. I'm not at all trying to tell you how to do things.. You are the best !!!

Thank you for the comments. I have never used the anti freeze method, but I have heard if not done properly it can discolor an engine. I cannot risk this on a customer engine. Sure if I let this head soak for longer I could get every bit of that out, but I have many projects to work on and this is more than clean enough. Thank you for your support and subscription!

For sure brother.. Thanks for the excellent content.. Real quick.. I've soaked many of engines in the antifreeze..Never have I had any sort of discoloring.. Nothing but clean clean engines.. Totally understand not wanting to take the risk with a customer engine.
      Have a great Friday !!

Now if I had a crock pot laying around that my wife wasn't using, and a gallon of ethylene glycol available I might give it a try. But the cost of LA's is literally 1/10th of anti freeze, isn't hazardous at all, and doesn't create fumes , just makes it more sensible really. Plus the LA's can be used to clean literally ANYTHING else in the household, whereas anti freeze isn't as versatile and useful. Maybe I should be a spokesman for LA's!!!! Show me the money!

Dave I just got a 125 older one in good condition. I need the to know what gaskets go on the feel in take tube. Search the wonderful web but haven't been able to find a gasket diagram. If you could help it would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to nitro flight.

I have the same cleaner and use LA's and no longer use the crockpot, I was wondering if you use the heat setting? (TC) button. Mine works even better if you run the heat.

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  7 ปีที่แล้ว

yes I always turn on the heat but honestly it doesn't seem to do too much. I start with really hot water anyway, but the temp of the water always drops and then only stays a bit lukewarm.

I understand two large cups of hot water, but what is one-third part bat? I have played it over and over to try to understand what this mixture is. But I hear you saying one third part BAT. What is the mixture in a simple water to cleaner ratio?
