The (lack of) stop lines at the traffic lights does seem like a map error, we do have them in real life. You can look on google street view if you like. Those double lines in the centre of the street together with the dashed lines on the right are designed to make the road look narrower and thus slow people down. The lines on the right also let you know the speed allowed on that road (outside built up area’s). No centre line and dashed on the side means 60, Single/double centre and dashed on the right means 80 and double (sometimes green between the white lines) and solid on the right means 100 km/h. Hope this clears things up a little (and that there aren’t to many mistakes in my English 😉). Kind regards from the Netherlands!

WOW, I cycle almost every day under that fly-over at 15:30. I could recognize a lot of stuff! The detail is absolutely beautiful and it's really recognizable as the Netherlands. It's so cool to see your home area (that's otherwise never really mentioned anywhere) in a popular game like this. The Dutch roads are quite different to other countries, but I've heard a lot of non-Dutch people say we have very good, if not the best roads in Europe. Looking forward to driving in this map!
As a Dutch person I can tell you this map is very accurate, like what I see very much, used to live and work as a truck driver in the area the map is now. Think I'd buy it when they have like the complete Randstad area (Rotterdam-Amsterdam-Utrecht and everything more or less in between), Rotterdam must be included :-)
The first big highway traffic junction you hit at around 15:20 is called PrinsClausPlein. It's where the A12, (all the way from Babberich ( where it enters The Netherlands from Germany-side) to Den Haag) is crossed with the highway A4 between Amsterdam (/Schiphol airport) and Rotterdam. (for starters) The A12 is THE most important route between Den Haag ( globally the Flower, Fruit and Veggies, Major Port (Air Schiphol, Ship Rotterdam) and the German backland. Most of Europe's Food and Flowers start from this region! A lot of major players transportwise are located on/around A12, with major hubs at Bleiswijk and Waddinxveen in mostly food, and the global area between Rotterdam and Amsterdam with "Westland" the Flower import and Export Global wide; with Major Flower hubs at Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg, Aalsmeer, and a more distant location close to Venlo! !
@@PrograError very much so. The whole of continent Europe and far beyond produce food and non food, but A LOT passes through the Rotterdam Den Haag Amsterdam Utrecht area in all kind of different ways.
The ammount of opinions and comments on the Netherlands is such a funny thing to watch. Like the whole bumps and roundabouts and stuff makes me burst into laughter like I haven't done in ages. Loved the video ^^
22:53 the way this works in the Netherlands is that when the traffic lights would fail, you have to look for the roadmarkings, the reason you don't have a stopline there is because you are on the mainroad and have the right of way to anyone coming from the left or right. Notice how the car's coming from left and right do have a stopline here. This varies from intersection to intersection, a solid white line means the same as and usually combined with a stop-sign. But sometimes instead of a solid line it'll just have the 'sharkteeth' which means you don't have to stop, but still have to give way to other traffic.

This is perfect! Bleiswijk is my hometown actually, It's quite a small village, i don't even think anyone from the Netherlands has ever heard about it. We do have one thing though and that's trucks :)
Wow, the amount of detail of this map is insane. I've driving the roads you rode in this video plenty of times, and it's just spot on! Hats off to the mod makers.
btw, the green arrows above the hihgway are to indicate that all the lanes are open. much places in the netherlands have, what we call "spitsstroken", those are only open during the rush hour so the traffic can flow a bit more.
I drive this highway every day to and from work, and I can't believe how detailed it is. Superb job! From the 20:00 mark, you actually drive around the area where I drove during my Touring bus exam. Cant wait to do that again in ETS2. And, in The Netherlands every traffic light has a solid stop-line (if that's the name for it ;))
23:50 (youll probably wont read this but whatever) the dashed line indeed indicates that you can overtake. the double line indicates that this is a road where normal cars can drive at 80 kph, if it had another green stripe in the middle that would be 100kph. Also, the dashed on the sides indicates theres a road coming where people can enter the road or cross it, so you have to be careful. A lot of dutchies dont know this though and just look at speed signs.
A busy 5 way, 1 lane roundabout near me (Mass. USA) was recently upgraded to a modern design similar to the "turbo" (with paint instead of raised lane separators) where if you're trying to turn left and enter on the inner lane, the lane markings will eventually bring you to the outer lane in a good position to exit. I was concerned about increased difficulty of having to cross a lane to enter but traffic is actually much smoother with less wait time.
Crazy how detailed it is. I drive that route quite often (The Hague to Utrecht) and recognize so much of it. Even including the windmills east of zoetermeer.
It's been over 20 years since I was in The Netherlands, but I remember my hosts telling me that the reason for the arrows on the roundabouts, reminding you which way to go around, it that the UK is just a short ferry ride away.
I live in Zoetermeer and the map is amazingly good. And we do have lines before you have to stop at traffic lights, so it needs a bit of work. But otherwise perfect. Squirrel needs to learn about roundabouts. There are two kinds of roundabout in the Netherlands with different rights of way! So be careful. Type 1 (usually, but not exclusively outside built up areas), marked by the shield with the arrows in a circle. You have right of way WHEN ON THE ROUNDABOUT. Type 2 (usually, but not exclusively inside built up areas), marked by a shield with one Arrow giving the driving direction. You have NO right of way when on the roundabout (traffic from the right has priority!). I did not know that foreigners found the turbo roundabout something special. I don't think we have a name for it. And oh, we have 20 million bicycles. I did not see one! That is pretty unrealistic. I did see a lot of police, which is pretty unrealistic too.
I've always felt like something was missing in ATS and ETS2. Seeing this, I can't say that anymore. Great work to Squirrel and all developers of this map, it's fantastic
In the Netherlands not all roundabouts have right of way for traffic on it, due to the rule that all traffic coming from your right has right of way unless other rules apply. A roundabout with right of way for traffic on it would be such a rule. Driving on what we call a ""voorrangsweg"" would be another. Thats a road where everybody on it would have right of way on traffic from the right and left. That is relativly new here; when i got my licence there where only three or four roundabouts in the whole country where the traffic on the roundabout had right of way, all the other ones the traffic coming on to the roundabout had right of way because they where coming from your right. A lot of roundabouts have changed now and have what we call haaientanden; sharksteeth painted on the tarmac: white triangels pionted at you indicating you have to give right of way.
If noone has mentioned before, the ditches/bodies of water around railway roads are very common also in cities/villages. Their primary objective is to absorb the vibrations made by the trains passing by. If the water would not be there the ground would vibrate a lot more. Over time this can result in damage to roads or buildings. It also makes the passing of trains les annoying.
The dual dashed lines are meaning the same as a single dash. There is no other meaning. But the road owners like to see if it reduces risky overtaking..
When you were wondering what those doubled-gapped lines were (23:40), then they mean that it can be used in both ways. I.e. if there's a special event or major incident then it can be used in one direction at the same time.
The double marked lines in the middle of the road in combination with a broken line on the outside edge of the road just means you can go 80km/h. If it is green in between the two center lines (paint, not plants) it means you can go 100km/h.
22:54 I guess its a map error. As a Dutchie, I can confirm that we also have a solid line in front of the traffic lights (mostly there are even 2 solid lines) Turbo roundabouts are very populair here aswell. They want to rebuild all 2 lane roundabouts to turbo roundabouts, as they're much safer and has a positive result on the traffic flow.
That’s crazy! This map is of my area!! Can’t believe it! Good job devs. Also in The Netherlands you have to give right of way to traffic coming from your right (unless there’s lights or something saying otherwise) so on some roundabouts you actually need to give way to people getting on since they’re on your right. Crazy but just the way it is, nowadays they’re putting give way signs and such but there are still some where it’s like that :P
As a Dutchman myself and a huge ETS fan this is a dream come true. Also happen to live near this part of the map IRL. It's very detailed and true to life. Btw, the names are all village and city names.
Downloaded this on the 24 and it’s a great map, very well done, some bugs in it can’t remember where exactly but a couple of intersections where your truck just starts bouncing and a company where the gate doesn’t open. For those interested try a 1 km trip, funny how long it can be.
Wow this really really has so much details i was even overwhelmed when i saw those electric tower because when i go to school i see exactly the same like they are in this game its so detailed
The signs in the middle of a roundabout shows you that it is a roundabout. In some places in the Netherlands you have these small looking roundabouts but you can actually go the othet way when there is no traffic.
I love that they included that massive billboard. That is actually real. Although in reality it is a massive LED screen. Many people complained because it is super bright so you are completely blinded by that screen at night.
I am pretty sure the obscure and excessive interchange system you're referring to in ATS is Arizona as... that's a living hell! No matter how skilled in orienteering, you're going to get screwed by them at least a few times haha. The only interchange systems in Oregon like that one I can think of is both the Fremont and Marquam bridges in Portland, though they do not all begin at the same level, rather they are separated onto the multiple decks of the bridges. So it doesn't feel like too great of a comparison there. This map is gorgeous!
Loving this map, another fantastic video Squirrel. Those turbo round-a-bouts are an excellent idea. The if I had a £ for every time I've been cut up half way around, here in the UK
The lack of horizontal solid lines at intersections is indeed an error. Another issue is that there is never a broken line towards these horizontal solid lines. Always a solid line so the traffic at the traffic light lines up in some kind of a box. This is to prevent drivers to change lanes at the very last moment and thus avoiding dangerous situations.
Roundabouts are fairly new here in my part of Canada. It can be quite exciting, because nobody knows how to use them! We too have big signs in the middle with arrows indicating which way to go.
Traffic engineer student here, 4th year. As others have mentioned, the lack of a stoppingline at the traffic lights is indeed an error. They are standard at every single trafficlight junction, as they are part of the markings that are supposed to make them function properly when the lights go out, though honestly nobody really takes notice. A weird thing that the traffic lights on this map seem to have that is definitely different IRL is their order of getting green. Every single lane that has its own dedicated direction is made an exclusive lane (some right turns sometimes coincide with cycling lights though), meaning that whilest that direction is green, no other direction will turn green that shares the same bit of road and forms a conflict. So all your lefthand turns should have been just you getting the right of way to turn left, without the AI being allowed to go straight ahead. The random blocks you see on the roundabout at the 33 minute mark are probably there because of an arbitrary rule that 10% (or some other low percentage) of any expenses made from taxes is to be funded into art and culture. The specifics on this rule are a bit vague as it has been a long time since I had to deal with them, but a rule like this has been enforced causing many roundabouts to feature... "art"... As for the turbo roundabouts, they increase the capacity compared to normal roundabouts tremendously. Even "normal" roundabouts with two lanes come nowhere near the capacity the turboroundabouts provide, since the second lane is usually used as a shortcut instead of it being a true second lane. Like others have mentioned as well, you are not supposed to cross the concrete barriers seperating the lanes. It is possible, but it can severely damage your car if you go over them and it should only be done if you really need to, like to prevent an accident from happening. I am really surprised at the amount of double lane roundabouts. Usually those tend to get replaced incredibly quickly with turbo version when there is a budget or when they need to do maintanence on the road anyway. All in all, Dutch roads are incredibly efficient in terms of design. Plenty of space to merge, lots of signage, and nifty things like turboroundabouts all help with that. They must be as well though, since the roads are stupid busy and there is no room to just expand them. Just slapping on an extra lane of asfalt is very inefficient if you want to up the capacity of a road, but that's a whole 'nother beast entirely. Some of the freight corridors tend to be incredibly busy the whole day, whereas some passenger corridors can feel desserted at other times of day.
Looks so accurate! Only missing the buildings along the highway. But the highway is perfect (and prins clausplein is indeed a very cool highway junction)
I really like the turbo roundabout in real life because no lane changing is required on the roundabout itself. The issue with two-lane roundabouts is idiots that don't pay attention and swerve into you.
I live in Zoetermeer so this is really cool! Alot looks like the real thing! even the positions of roads and their exits are pretty accurate. Gee, watching this video further I am just amazed how much of the detail they got right! When your were driving past Zoetermeer even the train station and the buildings behind them were pretty accurately placed and looking! Will deffinitly want to try this mod!
At 24:45, that ramp you took. In the real location, that one forces you to get back on the highway back to The Hague. Also, damn, as someone that commutes this highway nearly everyday... this was surreal
It's a pity that the team building this map has burned out and nobody wants to continue working on it .. the last version was at 1.39 and I don't have to check if it works on newer ones.
When you pause the video at 42:01 you'll see that the truck is in the right lane and the car is in the left lane even to go straight, most of the times the trucks stay on the right (except if they have to go left or something) most of the times all the cars go into the left lane and then they all try to gun it past you just so to win a few spots. This leads most of the times to dangerous situations like they cut you off or they speed past you over the striped part where the lane ends (I don't know what it is in english) I don't know if that information was needed but I felt like telling you but okay :)
in the Netherlands its a rule that on a double roundabout when you go left you need to drive on the outher lane. thats the reason that car chrasht in to you
I love driving through NL. Its dead smooth but it suffers from terrible traffic during the day. 80Km/h truck limit with long overtaking bans makes for some pretty miserable driving in rushour. At night though when the roads are quiet, its a truckers dream. The Dutch have nailed the industrial estate. Most are really easy to access with a large truck, makes a change from delivering to those poxy places here in England.
I think the fact that only the left turn area has a line in front, is a map error. I haven't seen it like that over here. Oh yeah, and the traffic almost never mixes like it does in that spot where you came in conflict with that orange lorry. It is either a left turn or straight on has green. Not both.
bridge road in exeter kind of has a turbo roundabout. although not excatly the same. but on coming lanes to the roundabout are split that you can only go a certain way
I've encountered one of those funny roundabouts in Washington state. It has a lot of signage on all sides to tell you which lane to be in to get you where you want to go. Then just follow it round.
You are right about the lines on the road at traffic lights, they should be at all lanes so you have to stop in front of the lines, they are missing ;)
Part of what trips me up in ETS2/ATS is the scale. Some of the curves, turns, and stops seem unrealistically sharp, short, or quick. I do believe SCS has done a great job of making the game realistic enough yet small enough to make it enjoyable to a wide audience. However, I do think it would be easier and sweeter if both games were closer to a 1:1 ratio. (Don't worry, I know SCS will never do this. It's just a dream...)
this map is not just pritty accurate, but insanly accurate, i live in the area of the start and i recognised everything down to the way the lanes are and split off
I live in the Zoetermeer area where you've started close by. I have to say that alot of the road and landscapes and buildings are accurate. But i do see some things which aren't there in real life like certain speed bumps or the road devider where you exited the highway. But seeing this amazes me. so much detail for a stand alone mod. Only thing i never understand with ETS 2 is that trucks have to drive 80 as the max speed limit for trucks in The Netherlands is 90 km p/h Another thing (and then i go into details) are the signs for the "Spitsstroken", which are lanes they can open or close, when traffic gets heavier in rush hours for example. But on the A12 the left lane is the one they open or close and the signs indicate it's the right lane. But still it's amazing what they are doing and how this beta is turning out so far!
You know one detail I have never seen in any map mod , is any form of railway signalling. It wouldnt have to be functional , just a red , amber or green light here and there which would look cool at night. I love the look of Tregion map though and cant wait to drive it.
Being Dutch: It all looks very Dutch :) Really good job so far. Let's hope the team keeps it up untill the entire map is finished :) The turbo-roundabouts work like a charm really, assuming that every driver know how to use those.
turbo roundabouts are pretty easy though, just a matter of choosing the right lane before you get on the roundabout. And next to that, we even have roundabouts with roads going straight through it. Yes you read in right, not over, not under, but a road just planted right through the center of a roundabout... and let me tell you, the trafficlights don't always work there...

It's where the A12, (all the way from Babberich ( where it enters The Netherlands from Germany-side) to Den Haag) is crossed with the highway A4 between Amsterdam (/Schiphol airport) and Rotterdam. (for starters)
The A12 is THE most important route between Den Haag ( globally the Flower, Fruit and Veggies, Major Port (Air Schiphol, Ship Rotterdam) and the German backland.
!
so... A12 can be said to be the breadbasket of the EU?
@@PrograError
very much so. The whole of continent Europe and far beyond produce food and non food, but A LOT passes through the Rotterdam Den Haag Amsterdam Utrecht area in all kind of different ways.
I remember my first turbo roundabout in a lorry. Completely messed it up and drove over the little concrete curbs in a panic. Not my proudest moment.
Whooops
But sometimes instead of a solid line it'll just have the 'sharkteeth' which means you don't have to stop, but still have to give way to other traffic.
find me an example of a road where there is no stop line in front of a traffic light, cuz i'm not buying it

I am working on the Tregion map at the moment , and it is very ambitious haha , we are getting a lot of work done , stay tuned
Sadly discontinued...
i am from the Netherlands, and this map is almost like real. the traffic lights as the roundabout, speedlines...etc, just in real life.
23:32 you're correct. they also mean there's a speed limit of 80 km/h unless traffic signs show a lower maximum speed
btw, the green arrows above the hihgway are to indicate that all the lanes are open.
much places in the netherlands have, what we call "spitsstroken", those are only open during the rush hour so the traffic can flow a bit more.
The whole Netherlands, Belgium and all of Germany on 1:2 Scale... Absolute Mad men! Good luck to them!
I live in The Netherlands. Wow this is detailed. Good job devs! And thanks for showing us Squirrel. I will try this mod for sure.

Crazy how detailed it is. I drive that route quite often (The Hague to Utrecht) and recognize so much of it. Even including the windmills east of zoetermeer.
I did not know this project was a thing. As a Dutch person, I am very excited about this! Thanks for making a video on it.
Perhaps this is an alternate timeline where the Germans won the war and didn't give our bicycles back :)
Thats why there are clear road signs showing possible exits before every turbo roundabout. We have these in Lithuania as well.
I love ETS2 maps in a more realistic scale!
The Hungary map is great as well.
As a Dutchie, I can confirm that we also have a solid line in front of the traffic lights (mostly there are even 2 solid lines)
Turbo roundabouts are very populair here aswell.
This made my day! I drove half that route today on my commute :) By the way, 33:00 and 34:00 actually are turbo roundabouts irl.
Love your video. Well done.

I am enjoying your trucking simultaneously learning English and accent
Wow this really really has so much details i was even overwhelmed when i saw those electric tower because when i go to school i see exactly the same like they are in this game its so detailed
The signs in the middle of a roundabout shows you that it is a roundabout. In some places in the Netherlands you have these small looking roundabouts but you can actually go the othet way when there is no traffic.
Some details like bicycle lanes and triangles on the road that shows priority can add more realism in the NL map
The haning lights are used near airports.
They are lower near the ground and have less light per lamp, but there are more of them.
Awesome! Really looking forward to trying this out. Another great video, Paul!!!
Looks so accurate! Only missing the buildings along the highway. But the highway is perfect (and prins clausplein is indeed a very cool highway junction)
Euro truck, the game that just keeps on giving. This map is ambitious as hell
overall i must say i'm impressed. it's not perfect but it's a very good start. it's clear these people are passionate about getting the details right
the flyovers are so accurate! if you live in the netherlands like me, you'll really feel like you're driving here just because of them
I really like the turbo roundabout in real life because no lane changing is required on the roundabout itself. The issue with two-lane roundabouts is idiots that don't pay attention and swerve into you.
Thanks for reviewing my country bro your the best!
Most are really easy to access with a large truck, makes a change from delivering to those poxy places here in England.
at 37:01: the car dealership is actually a carwash company. But, the building looks like the real one! Insane!
I think the fact that only the left turn area has a line in front, is a map error. I haven't seen it like that over here.
Oh yeah, and the traffic almost never mixes like it does in that spot where you came in conflict with that orange lorry. It is either a left turn or straight on has green. Not both.
Virginia logistics. A famous trucker vlogger called Luke Vernon used to work for them, vlogging his trips throughout Europe.
i like how i can recognize some roads XD the intersection between A4 and A12 and ive been in Bleiswijk and Waddinxveen last week
Wow, good detail. I life in the Netherlands. Enjoying your Touring
The stadium where you started is called the Cars Jeans Stadion of ADO Den Haag
bridge road in exeter kind of has a turbo roundabout. although not excatly the same. but on coming lanes to the roundabout are split that you can only go a certain way
I live in zoetermeer. Really funny to see parts of your hometown in a game with high precision.
I've encountered one of those funny roundabouts in Washington state. It has a lot of signage on all sides to tell you which lane to be in to get you where you want to go. Then just follow it round.
The turbo roundabout equivalent in the UK is the spiral roundabout, but they only have surface markings.
You are right about the lines on the road at traffic lights, they should be at all lanes so you have to stop in front of the lines, they are missing ;)
I'm from the Netherlands and this map is amazingly accurate!!
The stadium you see at the start of the drive is the Cars Jeans Stadion where Ado Den Haag plays soccer.
It's just a dream...)
this map is not just pritty accurate, but insanly accurate, i live in the area of the start and i recognised everything down to the way the lanes are and split off
@Squirrel tour start point was The Hague and Leidschenveen in a part of the city. Actually, my school is in Leidschenveen 😋
This is amazing, these are the roads I actually drive on the daily
I live in the Zoetermeer area where you've started close by. I have to say that alot of the road and landscapes and buildings are accurate. But i do see some things which aren't there in real life like certain speed bumps or the road devider where you exited the highway.
But seeing this amazes me. so much detail for a stand alone mod.
Only thing i never understand with ETS 2 is that trucks have to drive 80 as the max speed limit for trucks in The Netherlands is 90 km p/h
Another thing (and then i go into details) are the signs for the "Spitsstroken", which are lanes they can open or close, when traffic gets heavier in rush hours for example.
But on the A12 the left lane is the one they open or close and the signs indicate it's the right lane.
But still it's amazing what they are doing and how this beta is turning out so far!
The speed limit for trucks is 80km/h in NL
The speed limit for trucks is 80km/h trust me i'm trucker
@@Hollandden wow guess most drive too fast then. Now I understand the speed limit in the game
there are hanging street lights in the UK like on the M1 on the bit that goes over the M25 in Hertfordshire
Looking at Zoetermeer the road lay out is pretty damn accurate! Very ambitious project, I hope they can see it through.
First route I ever enjoyed seeing like I enjoy going trough some Train Sim routes. Can't wait to see it done.
