Thank you for your video and showcasing street food in Trinidad.
I must say; personality, I would be put off coming to Trinidad and having to hear Jamaican music in my head at Shacka. I just would not go in no matter how good the food was.
I would feel the same way in London where I live. If I was dining in a Trinidadian restaurant and heard reggae playing. I would walk out; not because I hate reggae, but because I would not consider that I was getting anything authentically Trinidadian.
I have lived most of my life in the UK, but I am fiercely loyal to the land of my birth.
I can appreciate this music if I was in Jamaica, but certainly not in Trinidad. No wonder all my non Trinidadian friends in London, of all races (who don't know better) believe, that Jamaican music and food is the indigenous music and food of the Carribean.
You would never hear soca/chutney/ calypso or any music other than reggae playing in a Jamaican establishment. Nor would you be able to purchase Trinidadian food. No wonder the world believe Carribean food is Jamaican food, as not only Jamaican sell it as such, the few Trinidad eatery we have in London all sell jerk, patties and rice and peas (not peas and rice). It seems Trinidadian are not brave enough to show case to the world our excuisite cuisine , which no other island in the Carribean, or in the world can compare with. Our range and variety and the nutritional content are astonishing
Trinidad should be the gastronomy of the Carribean, yet we have not ceased the opportunity.
England used to be infamous for bland food. However, this all changed and London became the gastronomy capital of Europe and famous cooks all over the world flocked here. We took away the glory from the famous French cuisine and Italian masters and they came to London to open fine dining resturants and brasseries. Sadly, with Brexit many had to leave and the Covid 19 just struck some too hard.
Trinidad need to show case our authentic identity. Our style of cooking first came from the natives of the land. Other people from around the world that came later to our shores, following Colombus footsteps,
made an impact to our cuisine, flavour and styles of cooking. We do not need to copy or adopt any other style. All over the world every country can boast excuisite cuisine.
We have it. Yet we hold up doubles as our glory to the world. Just think of how it looks to a non Trini. I am not disputing it's deliciousness, but it will never be in the class of a fine food; plus we need to package doubles better.

I agree the constant guy thing is so very annoying . These trite American nonsense words people pick up, spoils the impression they make to others. I met my friend in Sri Lanka for a holiday before the pandemic started. She has been living in Canada for years. I was disappointed when she kept using the word guys. I felt irritated by it, but said nothing, as her whole family were saying the same thing
