Pips mooring is in the centre spot for the upcoming New Years Eve fireworks. I am pretty she wont be sleeping on board though. The ORCV will be looking after her.
Florian, we are wondering why the second group ist taking the east route to pass the Falklands and not going west from the islands to fetch a more windy zone. Yeah, Jean Le Cam is great! Well, he has the best crew with his companions, the two puppets Ushu and Jean, who were suspected to have hidden the shoes of Jean Le Cam one month ago. But in the end, Jean Le Cam found them in the trash. 😅 A nice story for children. Jean is supporting the ASE, a foundation which aim is to protect children.
Thanks Florian! Your show is always a treat. Why is the ice exclusion zone so high in the South Atlantic? If the foiler fleet could go over by South Georgia there would be all sorts of additional routing options... maybe downwind even! It seems unlikely that the weird bump in the exclusion zone toward Argentina would contain more ice than say south of cape horn. The ice exclusion line west of cape horn is a smoother (straight line) transition. If the exclusion zone were similar in the Atlantic is seems like it might result in faster routings this year. I get that south of Australia there is a rescue distance limit, what's the deal in the South Atlantic?
I'm wondering whether Alan Roura let his sail go actually. When the sail is shown fully in the water he repeats "I'm sorry the Ocean" as if he is apologizing for polluting the ocean. It would be interesting to know for sure.
@@SeawolvesTV He says he no longer has any sails for strong weather and will have to do with the J2. But what I love is how after the initial outburst he pauses and then says "alright, enough of the emotions, now action!" and starts moving decisively. The true mark of a fighter, a necessary trait for this kind of endeavor!
Yeah, knowing a fair bit of French myself I don't recall hearing that much cussing from a skipper before. Must be pretty bad whatever problem Roura is going through with his sail. Hope he sorts it out!

They are completely "alone" indeed... Never saw nothing like this.. It's not the true spirit.. Constantly vídeos, great tech, fast boats but stable, always in cockpit... Etc.. Four years ago was not like this, and Bestavan crossed the Horn 31 to 1 January with great vantage... Very few videos, diferent and less faster boats, Valin was first but with the diferent points Yannick won.. This is not a solitary regatta in real terms but I understand the sponsorship and investment involved, and safety.... And fourty...? Never thought... In 2028 will be 80 boats...? The tactic is always the same, The "Windy" helps, some take risks, antecipation, some good some bad, but this regatta is definitely not the same...The spirit.. Since Lamazou.. Remember well but maybe most people hear were kids or not born..
Well, that's a LOT to unpack so I'll be uncharacteristically 'brief'. I see very little difference between this VG and the last one four years ago. Sure, there are more videos and a few new yachts are marginally faster but the 'feel' of the race hasn't changed for me at all. The spirit of the race is the same. I still see the immense challenges these brave people face not to mention the dangers. If there are ways to mitigate the danger even at the cost of diminishing the challenge I hope they implement them. In regards to the numbers, I say the more the merrier. Each team has a story and the tales these skippers tell are uniquely their own. If one day 100 skippers are racing in this incredible race, that's 100 unique and fascinating stories to follow and reflect upon. That said, I respect your opinion.

Got sad with Pipa, breaking mast in four parts don't know how's that possible but happen, and Clarisse and all the others.. Four years ago Yannick cross cape Horn in 31 December, was New Year Eve.. Remember the video. There was much less tech inside the cockpit, two computer screens at the most, some had one.. Twenty years ago and more, some capsizing, don't remember the name now, in the south 24 hours, Australian navy go.. This week, I think, Clarisse was trying to fix a computer hardware.. Smiling..! Don't now nothing about this she said.. Lot of people on shore 24 hours a day was also in the first one.. Lamazou was six months in the desert living with tuaregs to prepare.. I knew them.. When he won the race a million people in Champs Elysse.. The spirit is the same nowadays but with six, seven, eight screens, Windy, charts, etc.. Constantly monitoring to team onshore, smartphones, nice food, kit kitchen, a great chairs... Not very confortable the sleep.. Once ride in one and constantly noise... Like trimaran Cote D Or who capsizing in Açores and after insurance, bought and came to Lisboa without mast and keep near river in dry dock, was a shame, then was put a mast and ride.. Don't know where it is nowadays... And four years ago there was no videos sea wolf's etc talking talking talking.. Like soccer comenters.. Do you like in the future five hundred doing this...? Look like the Everest with thousands of people in the queue waiting to go.. And dozens go to the top get down come the others.. The garbage it's a lot.. That's mass tourism now.. The spirit gone.. But the mountain still there.. Like Vendée since the beginning, Poupon, Isabelle, etc.. A great sailing adventure, the biggest. But they are not "alone" , are much more safety and communication etc.. It's OK..!!! Sign of Times singing Prince. Times changing. Like F1 with Lauda, Hunt, Peterson, Senna, Proust, Piquet, Mansell etc.. Nowadays in sure can tell you that F1 is boring.. Vendée still got the perfect adrenaline, adventure, rough, heavy regatta ever..!!! America s Cup weird but fascinating.. The technology.. And four bikers in each boat.. Cycle Gym five hours a day trough more than a year.. Saw in a video how they finish, completely knock.. Seems like the boats of ancient Rome Empire with the helms mans.. Regards
@@josepedro8968 The only thing more I can add to my previous comment is that try as we might, we cannot halt the inexorable progress of technology. The yachts will continue to advance and the advance will likely accelerate. Perhaps at one point, the VG officials will need to severely restrain how much technological aids are permitted for each team, however, I don't see this happening for at least another decade except for T-foil rudders. The technology is making it easier and faster to sail around the world but also making it much safer. Look what occurred in the Sydney-Hobart race recently...if there could have been some tech to prevent or mitigate the risks and save those two lives wouldn't it have been beneficial if not essential to have it onboard? I think so. I agree that in some respects it's diminishing the challenge. It's a small price to pay compared to severely damaged yachts, debilitating injuries, or sailors lost at sea, so, I'm trying hard to understand your point of view about the tech aspect of the VG. Furthermore, I do not perceive an increase in the number of participants as a disservice to the spirit of the VG as long as sufficient safety measures are mandated and strictly adhered to. Why not have more teams involved with a wider global representation? As far as the America's Cup is concerned, don't get me started! I've just taken a break from over a year of comments on YT arguing against this thing or in favor of that thing...I AM EXHAUSTED. Please, let's not rehash those debates again until the next AC development cycle begins in earnest. I really need to take a break from the AC...
