  • The Alpine INE-F904D Halo 9 Review. The New & Improved Halo 9 That Now Features Built In Navigation, DAB, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Alpine have re-released the Halo 9 which now includes Built-In Navigation that uses the TomTom Database to give you nav whilst on the move without you needing to plug your phone in.
We very quickly run through some of the features that this impressive piece of kit can offer.
There is also a Truck / Camper Specific version that also allows you to input specific vehicle profiles so that you don't get routed down roads that aren't suitable.

Hey great review! Would it fit into a discovery 2004 model

would it also fit to a Discovery 4? And would it also be able to integrate the Landrover Controls on the Steringwheel, as well as showing the Directions from the Nav on the instrument Cluster.

Yes it should be possible to install the system to your Disco 4 with SWC. Nav on the Instrument Cluster is a maybe, we would need to speak with Alpine to see if the Halo can talk to the Land Rover on that level. Get in touch with us through the contact form on the website.

Any idea when this will come to the US? Haven’t found any info of it being available. I’d rather have sat nav and not have to worry about phone service while using google maps or Apple Maps.

I'm not sure if I'm honest. As we're in the UK we only know and hear about releases here. Some units don't make their way across the pond unfortunately. Best bet is to reach out to Alpine USA directly to see if it's coming.

Thank you for the nice review, but I need to inform you, that (maybe accidently?) Volkswagen set the steering-wheel on the wrong side. Maybe, you‘ll contact your VW-dealer soon to get a fixed version - with the steering-wheel on the left side. ;-)
Greetings and gentle regards from germany.

which interface do you use for the multifunction display in the cockpit?

Nice but I really don’t see the point of spending that sort of money for satnav, when CarPlay has this covered now and kenwood do a very competitively priced WiFi connected unit

Alpine have the standard Halo 9 that doesn’t have built in Nav which is of course cheaper. This also has Carplay and Android Auto.
The New Halo 9 was built for a purpose. People wanted this unit with Full Navigation and didn’t want to be tied to a mobile device for Waze, Google etc.
It’s proving already to be an extremely popular unit even at that price point.

Yeah all they had to do is upgrade the resolution of the unit you don't need navigation

The point is, that your navigation is always depending on your mobilephone, the Internet-connection, a working iOS/Android and the USB-connection to your headunit.
I prefer the Stand-alone-version because of its independence of the cellular phone. My Samsung A6 (2018) laggs with GPS since the Android10-update. Since then, I like the independent version and maybe in 5 yrs, I switch to the AndoidAuto/CarPlay-nav. I like the option to use it as i want to.

I think that it's down to TH-cam Compression. It's pretty decent in the flesh.

It’s not that good. All these retailers are trying to play it up. It’s sub-par at best. The Pioneer rival is much better

Not good its so slow, slower than a cheaper Android phone for its expensive price. 🙄 Not recommended, its usable but not good enough for its price.
