I'm familiar with this area and have hiked this trail. I've always known to stay WAY BACK from the cliff edge. That's a long drop and soil is unstable...
No you’re not
God Bless Them ALL.... How sad.
RIP…😢
Sometimes people die doing what they enjoy doing. my sincere condolences to her friends and family.
Performing CPR on a person with spinal injuries is incredibly stupid.
I do a fair amount of off-trail hiking. But I always have a topographical map, a compass, and I take it slow to read the terrain. If you're going off-trail, ALWAYS have a topographical map and compass and know how to use them. Not sure how the phone reception is in the gorge, but you can download gps apps w/ topographical maps on your phone.
Well you're a troll and not terribly trustworthy HOWEVER that's not bad advice. Many of you aren't fit enough to do this stuff. I know I see you geeks every day
No you haven’t
That sucks, Oneonta and those other connected hikes (Horsetail and Ponytail) are some of my favorites. Some sections do demand your full attention and a certain amount of caution. Sad to hear of this. Condolences to those who knew her.
So sad
what’ terrible way to take a dump.
A lot of people don't realize that there are not hand rails out in nature. Kinda just trusting there wouldn't be a cliff just appearing in front of them. I was in driving in Washington, not sure where, just some random road at night. It was pretty dark when I pulled off to relieve myself. I happened to throw my headlamp on and just 20 feet off the highway was a good 50 foot cliff. Easily could have walked right off. I hope all these women weren't distracted with their hand terminals...
You sound like an old pasty idiot
I would suggest Park Rangers at the Lodge possibly consider giving mini-classes or visuals at a table booth on proper hiking gear recommendations, how useful a hiking stick can be while hiking to provide 3 points of contact at all times, stay on the trails provided for safety reasons, newer safety devices on the market that hikers should consider getting themselves, proper footwear while hiking, just overall some good Emergency Preparedness Management training given to young, inexperienced, and naive individuals!
I do see a lot of inexperienced people wearing the wrong footwear on some of the trails, especially trails involving waterfalls.
" Don't go chasing Waterfalls,"
Umm, a hiking stick can’t fix common sense
Stolen valor 🔝
There goes more of our freedoms, mandated hiking licenses“for safety”
