This is what Portland’s “acceptance of public drug use” has caused.

THIS is why we needed to reverse course on Measure 110... and why voters chose to return Mike Schmidt to the private sector. Despite persistent problems in downtown Portland, I am starting to feel optimistic about a nascent change in direction. Come September, law enforcement will be empowered to interdict in cases of open use. Add to that, the recent increase in the ranks of the bike squad. And, if Nathan Vasquez starts clearly demonstrating that there will be accountability and consequences, the elements that have been poisoning Portland will hopefully get the message and find their way to some other city that is still foolish enough to tolerate such BS.

I never go near Max stops. Never, ever ride public transit. Much less the crime train. By the way, why isn't this a hate crime?

Glad he's okay and kudos to the driver.
It makes me nothing but sick to my stomach and sad because when I lived in Portland from 1989 to 1997 all I did was ride TriMet. I was so proud of TriMet it was the best public transportation. It was wonderful. People had fun riding it. You're happy that you were saving money by not driving your car. You could jump on and off at Fareless square. It was terrific. I hardly ever drove my car then and now people don't even want to get on it. That's disgusting. Glad I left in 1997.

I used to ride the train on the weekends to pdx for coffee, farmers market, good restaurants. Not so much anymore. Too many weirdos, bad smells, and trash. Not too long ago they found a body in the creek at the elmonica max station.

This extremely unfortunate, this what it look like when the Oregon systems fell people.
I’ve known Michael for a decade and have struggled to get himself back on track because of multiple failed systems in this city.
He’s not just a homeless guy , he’s born and raised in Portland, come from a great family, was a star athlete until becoming injured which led him in pain and addiction.
Fighting for he’s life back, being very transparent about he’s addiction and the horrible street drugs that’s killing me on our streets daily.
It’s not fair on both sides of the fence.
Michael has been affected by displacement of he’s community and safety net due to gentrification .
I pray for all who was affected by this tragedy and I hope Michael get the true support that he’s been begging for the lady years.

There's plenty of homeless addicts from good backgrounds in this town who don't push people in front of moving trains. 🤷🏻‍♂️ If he was trying to go to jail to get treatment, he could have committed a victimless. Also it sounds like you're just making excuses for him and never mention him taking responsibility for himself. Sheesh.

It's NOT because of "failed systems", it's because he kept looking for reasons to fail at quitting.
