    Thanks for this great video. I have been working with Indian ink on paper for years but painting on canvas is totally new to me. I've been varnishing test pieces done on gessoed cardboard (literally crisscrosses of paints and acrylic ink so that if anything runs or smudges I can see it). I just want to learn how to apply the top coat of glaze (the isolation coat, as they call it, if you want to protect your paintings with removable varnish) with zero brushmarks and your video was really helpful.
    PS I love your accent, it reminds me of living near Sheffield when I was a toddler 🤪

    • @TillyDouglas
      @TillyDouglas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, no they are not prints, these are paintings that I did myself. As long as the paint has been left to dry well, a light wipe over with a wet wipe does not remove the paint... I wouldn't scrub too hard or too long, as that could remove some of the paint.

    Is the mixing with water just for workability purposes? Could the 4 coats be avoided if you did not mix with water or used less water? Also could you not do the 4 coats as left to right, top to bottom, diagonal left to right and diagonal right to left to not miss areas?

    • @TillyDouglas
      @TillyDouglas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mixing with water does help it spread easier and also helps to get rid of any air bubbles. The way I do it is still the exact same way I do it in this video... top to bottom and left to right repeated... I've never missed a spot yet and I really don't think it would make any difference if you did it diagonal. But of course, this is just my preference, feel free to do it the best way for you. 🌹

    I just got an acrylic pouring set & have used acrylics to paint on wood & pbn’s but can only draw stick people. Is it a must to have those big hair dyers as can’t lift big heavy but canvas’s will stay small! Just ordered this gel medium & you can mix into your acrylic with it also but don’t use to much? Ty & you do beautiful work!

    • @TillyDouglas
      @TillyDouglas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paula, you don't have to use a hair dryer, you could use a straw and blow through that, or a turkey baster, or there is even a very small blower (which I love) that you could use. I have videos on using all of these... This is one of them using the little electric blower. th-cam.com/video/BT7r5JdmCA8/w-d-xo.html

      Thank you Tilly as can’t afford all these things all at once & have a small hair dryer & won’t be doing big ones as have no rotor cuff on my r. shoulder so if smaller shouldn’t need as much heavy things 🤗! Just learned about putting panty hose over top of Floetrol bottles as gummy parts will then go into your cups (learning as much as can before starting) & then don’t have to wonder why have big globs of harder stuff coming out of a bottle 🤔!

    Thank you Tilly so very much for the info provided and your technique. I've spent hours searching for Basics gloss varnish in the gallon and finally sent liquitex a note asking what in the world is up? Now I understand. I wonder if there was a name change for the formula I liked however, you have changed my mind and I think I'll switch to this product and I love the way you thin it down. Uses less product and truly gives a far better crispy shine then my thick layer of gloss varnish which I thought I loved. Wondering how you use this product as a medium? Do you also thin it down for medium use?

    • @TillyDouglas
      @TillyDouglas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're very welcome Anny! I love this product, and I've been using it for years with great results, so I don't see any reason to change! It really does give a lovely finish, and a small bottle lasts for ages. It has also stood the test of time, as I've never had any yellowing or cracking. I also use it to mix directly in with my paints, as it gives a nice finish and prolongs the drying time meaning I have longer to work with the paint, and it's lovely and smooth. 🌹

    Tilly, I used liquitex pouring medium in two paintings and liked the satin finish but not what it did to the composition.l..’too flowy/mixed’ and no cells. I then tried using Australian floetrol…loved the composition but when it dried it was dull. Please can I ask, do paintings made with floetrol tend to dry dull and then adding resin/or liquitex varnish brings them back to, life? Everything I’ve followed in your videos has worked so some advise would be appreciated……. confused, retired, frustrated….

    • @TillyDouglas
      @TillyDouglas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Deborah, yes, the floetrol does tend to dull down the colours when it dries, but the resin or varnish will bring them right back to life again! It's my favourite part of the whole process! 🌹

    Unfortunately this meathod didn’t work well for me. :( Huge painting… for someone special… took the purple right off. Even used a super soft cloth. Mine is 100x100cm. Wish I laid flatter. I’ll have to varnish it with another time. And for me, it’s EXPENSIVE to do. I live in Sweden and had to use two small bottles, because they don’t sell them in the large bottles here. The bottles were $12 a piece (112 sek, my countries currency). :( I had to use two and I can only do two layers… I wanted to give it away for Christmas, and so I didn’t have a lot of time. Unfortunately it didn’t go well.
