nar laga dia thu a shean beag is mhaith e sin my god smasher of a song that and what a great voice you have long may you continue shame there is not more likes for such a great narration and song .
Great song. Written by Eddie Bheartla. It’s a song about a real life experience he had at sea with Beartley Casey as his mate. Eddie joined the priesthood after raising his family and his wife passed away.
Thanks, Paul, for acknowledging the writer of the song, Fr Eddie O Conghaile (Eddie Bheartla). Far too often the songwriter is omitted from all the credits. John Beag does a top class job on capturing the emotion and power of this very special composition. Well done to Eddie and John Beag.
Many thanks for uploading this brilliant song and its singer. I've only done the same as you in transcribing the lyrics. I think the 'Púca' in Irish/Celtic folklore is described as a spirit/ghost and in this case refers to the name of a boat/ship. The only other reference I can find is that it was named after a feisty ram where the farmer to whom it belonged would rent it out to other farmers to do the business in increasing the size of their flocks. Also the 'lore' is short for folklore. Anyway have a sing along to the song with my slightly edited lyrics. Regards Peter (PicassoPete) The Nazarene Song (Come Follow Me) John Beag O’Flatharta I am a Connemara man, I was born to be free, I love the beauty of the land and the magic of the sea, I heard his stories of great men, who sailed the seven seas, And I learned the lore of an ancient folk and their love for the Nazarene, A hunter on the mountainside, a trapper on the sea, I love the chase, see the mountain hare, throw a hound with ease, The Púca sails to raise the spray, bringing bounty from the deep, Not all the gold, the world could hold, could buy that life from me, One night as we had stretched our nets and the storm had increased, A driving mist that was so thick, your hand you could not see, The gates of hell had sucked us in, and we were doomed it seemed, In the darkest hour before the dawn, I called on the Nazarene, (Chorus) Come listen all good-hearted men, wherever you may be, Our lord is just as good today, as he was in Galilee, Come lend a hand and help him out, to feed his lambs and sheep, You'll have everlasting happiness in the home of the Nazarene, There came a day, it blew a gale, no boat could go to sea, I sat me down and a train of thought came rushing back to me, My brave old mates with whom I sailed and harvest in the deep, Had sailed away to the great beyond and were now with the Nazarene, Now all had changed and the past was pained, but I reared my family, My loving wife and her little child were sleeping their last long sleep, On my native shore where the wild waves roar, I scanned the glistening sea, I hauled my boat upon the shore and I followed the Nazarene, (Chorus) Come listen all good-hearted men, wherever you may be, Our lord is just as good today as he was in Galilee, Come lend a hand and help him out, to feed his lambs and sheep, You'll have everlasting happiness, in the home of the Nazarene, (Chorus) Come listen all good-hearted men, wherever you may be, Our lord is just as good today as he was in Galilee, Come lend a hand and help him out, to feed his lambs and sheep, You'll have everlasting happiness, in the home of the Nazarene, You'll have everlasting happiness, in the home of the Nazarene.
HI peter nice comment there as i wonder how really the puca is described i once heard a figure in what looks like a Spanish grandee with burning eyes of coal and you would see the thing on lonely roads and it would lunge at you but was bound by some invisible force so regards .
It's not puca fairy ,he,s referring to the is smallest of the Irish sailing boat called puchan my late father pat willie o griofa had one ,slan agus beannacht

The Nazarene Song (Come Follow Me)
John Beag O’Flatharta
I am a Connemara man, I was born to be free,
I love the beauty of the land and the magic of the sea,
I heard his stories of great men, who sailed the seven seas,
And I learned the lore of an ancient folk and their love for the Nazarene,

One night as we had stretched our nets and the storm had increased,
A driving mist that was so thick, your hand you could not see,
The gates of hell had sucked us in, and we were doomed it seemed,
In the darkest hour before the dawn, I called on the Nazarene,
(Chorus)
Come listen all good-hearted men, wherever you may be,

It is "Púcán". A sailing boat with a dipping gaff rig. one of the smaller galway hookers.
@@Eistear it would have been the traditional fishing boat from Galway and the west
Thanks for the lyrics ☘️🇮🇪👍
It's not puca fairy ,he,s referring to the is smallest of the Irish sailing boat called puchan my late father pat willie o griofa had one ,slan agus beannacht

Wonderful song. I'm sad to say I seen a lot of that and the abuse of the Irish by the Irish.
