I've been chasing that older Queensryche flavor for awhile, so I totally appreciate this great lesson! I also appreciate you calling out the context of the power chords (major or minor) in relation to the key. Adding some major & minor 3rds would open up some great overdubbing/layering possibilities! Thanks, Jason!
Also, a lot of this style comes from simply using those higher strings for your chords. As metal guitarists, it’s easy to get hung up on playing the lowest notes all of the time so riffs like this really help you break away from that.
never realized those chords existed and they rock I like the feel and sound , I have so much fun playing with these chord progressions, thanks Gunnar and Jason. plugging in now and playing
Yeah this will help you break away from the usually lower notes that we tend to gravitate towards as metal heads. This will give you more dynamics in your playing!
Nice!🤘 I've tried a couple times in my younger days to learn guitar on my own but failed. Giving it another try and came across your channel. AWESOME! Already learned a lot from just a few of your videos. Keep em coming dude! METAL!!!
I like metal but I’m not normally a metal player - your videos are really inspiring me to give it a try! Awesome lessons dude - I’m going to sign up to metal apprentice. Cheers! Stu
Awesome lesson bro, I keep thinking you and Gunnar need to start a band together. You compliment each other really well. Kind of in the vein of JP with Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, lol. Anyway, I love Queensryche back in the day and was actually really stoked to find out my rescheduled tickets for Judas Priest this year in Portland will have Queensryche as the opener. So excited.
@@jasonstallworth yes and thanks for bringing back to memory the great Queensryche albums from the 80’s. I’m doing a Queensryche play through today at work in honor of upcoming tour and your lesson today 😊. Actually the last couple albums from the last decade with Todd Latore are pretty dang good too. They seem to have that passion and fire back again and Todd’s voice is so Tate like it’s like picking up where their last good albums left off. Have you heard them?
Love Your Videos !! I was Surfin TH-cam and just stumbled across you the other day as i was looking for Beginner Metal playing .I enjoy the videos , Funny and Just great lessons !! You are a great Player !! .Just subscribed !!
HI Jason. i was wondering if Gunnar could do a quick tut on how to play the intro to Monkey bars by Coney Hatch. Seems there is no video out there of how to play it.. Im sure all the old school cats out here would love to learn that riff.. Cheers to Gunnar and company..
Thank you dude! I really don't do cover songs on here, unless I'm sharing my live acoustic gigs, which I do from time to time but I'll listen to this tune and grasp the techniques to share
Hi Jason I'm wanting to learn, "Into the lungs of hell" an instrumental off Megadeth's, So far .. so good album. It seems like it would be a good alternate picking exercise as well as a cool song to pull out at parties🥳 However I can't find any good tabs for it or any online lessons to help me break it down, and I've got no idea how to work it out by ear. I've been away from the guitar for many years and am returning to it at nearly 50. I've always loved 80s thrash. But was never able to play it. Would really appreciate your input on how I could go about learning this metal masterpiece (in my opinion) Love the channel, love your energy Mike
Mike, first, it’s awesome to hear that you’ve picked it back up! The next thing is I’d recommend starting from the basics and going through those motions of power chords, alternate picking and such and allowing yourself to build back up. You will, and it will all come back quickly!
@@jasonstallworth many thanks Jason, I really appreciate you taking time to get back to me. I love your fast picked muted runs, they are so clean and right up my street🎶🎸😈
Great video man! I've been meaning to ask, would you be able to recommend any good luthiers in the Tampa Bay Area? Just moved back a few months ago and have been having a hard time finding one.
Hey, Jason your 80s metal guitar 🎸 video is fantastic! How do I share my original instrumental riff!? I want you check it out and enjoy it, just like you share your talent for us to enjoy with us!... Thanks your for sharing your talent!
Liking that guitar more and more...
It’s solid!!
The solos over the chord progressions were kick ass! Really liked the second one!
Dude, thank you...I should get Gunnar to do a lesson on those solos if he can remember what he played! lol
