Perfect................With one little exception, the floor is zinc chromate green.

Thank you for the feed back. My research suggests, that starting with the -B model of mustangs, there were typically 3 types of floors in use in the mustang Cockpits. Option 1: The cockpit floor was the upper side of the wingbox and would have been painted the standard interior green color (as you suggest.) Option 2: plywood inserts were added on top of the wingbox to protect it from wear and tear as well as to raise the height of the floor to closer to the rudder peddles, adding a little more comfort to the pilot. This wood would have been untreated and unpainted. Option 3: The same as option 2 with the addition of a non slip coating that would have been black and would have worn off during use.
The way Airfix modeled their floor suggested to me to be either option 2 or 3, and I chose option 2 because I liked the look and because of the absence of definitive proof for this particular aircraft.
Hopefully this gives a little insight into why I choose to do it the way I did. I appreciate the feedback and thank you for watching!

This is a great video. Very good modeling. I will be incorporating many of your mods into my Airfix P51. You provided a lofty bar for me to reach. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill.

Great work. The Airfix Mustang has become my favourite (Go-to) kit of the P-51D, even over the Eduard Uber-kit. It's very reasonably priced, accurate and a joy (with one or two small caveats) to build. One Caveat c- Take any paint off the mating surfaces, or the fit can be affected. Secondly, the main radiator assembly (Steps 11-15 in the instructions) MUST be double checked to make sure the forward radiator face sits flush with the underside of the housing or the fuselage halves don't fit together well at all. IF it sits proud, simply trim it flush with a modelling knife and sand... you will never see it as it will be behind= the oil-cooler assembly and invisible from the outside. The two different fin fillets are for the different fillets on the D model. The one used in this kit is the Factory fitted fillet, adopted during D-10 production, and the other is a Field Modification used to update the early D-5 model which had no fillet. The difference is VERY subtle, but Airfix nailed it! (The Field Mod was colloquially called a "Swayback" as it has a very gentle curve leading up the the fin connection, where the Factory kit is straight. (Airfix released the D-5 (Without the fillet, but including both the fillets in the box!)as a separate boxing, as they did with an F-51D (Post WW2/Korea, and a Mustang IV (RASF/Commonwealth) One boxing I think they could/should release is a VLR Pacific Mustang with the Uncle Dog Radar and the 110 gallon metal drop tanks (Like oversized 75 gallon metal tanks.) They are some really nice colour options for those based on Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Looking forwards to watching Part 2 of this...

Thank you, I definitely have this kit on my list to build again, like you said, it's a great value. I hope you enjoy the other parts, you'll see that I fell victim to some of the things you mentioned, all self inflicted of course. but I still enjoyed the build greatly. Cheers,
      Brett

Another great video and model 🙌🏻
Do you have a list of things you use, like the strengths of sand paper and specific links to your washes etc.

Thats a great question. Off hand I don't have a list like that, but I think I could do a video showing my most common tools/products and compile where they can all be purchased. Great idea, thank you.

When had Airfix first issued this kit, please? I have been looking for good, accurate, well-detailed kits in various scales of the North American P-51D/H/K Mustang USAAF Long-Range Fighter, Second World War version.
Have I previously communicated with you? "Hammerhead Model Making" seems familiar.

This kit was first tooled in 2017, and since then Eduard as released some beautiful kits in both 1/48 and 1/72 of the P-51D. Either would be good options.
