If Dubrovnik has earned the nickname the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, Omiš deserves a title of similar recognition.
With its charming old town, the magnificent backdrop dominated by surrounding gorges, the Cetina River running into the sea and views of the town from both Fortress Mirabella and Omiš Old Town Fortress (Starigrad Fortica), Omiš is a true Dalmatian Pearl.
Located between Split and Makarska, Omiš boasts some wonderful beaches, including Plaża Galeb (Seagull Beach) and Velika Plaża (Big City Beach). Tourists staying in the west of Omiš, such as at Galeb Camp, certainly aren’t spoiled for choice when it comes to beaches as the nearby resort of Duće is not far away. Duće has several sandy beaches.
The most captivating street in Omiš Old Town is Knezova Kačića. Its runs from close to the River Cetina, to the west, to the Eastern Town Gate, constructed in 1682 during the Venetian rule.
