Back in 1970 I had a ''63 first gen with a 170, ex phone company van that I painted root beer metallic with huge rear wheels and slightly larger fronts which was customized inside with bed, stereo, paneling ( to hide your stash when authority figures showed up ) and an ice box. Bought it for $200 and it ran ! Now you get shit for $2000. After that I've had at least 8 other vans and pretty much loved them all....except for the VW's.
The first one is so much like the '66 Falcon Van I had. It started powder blue/white and ended up a dark blue, that looked more black, and pearl white on the top...no blue stripe. Fully extended, like the one shown. Brings back memories.
Good selection of vans. I really liked the blue Econoline with the dual exhaust...wonder if he put a 302 in it or if it was just for show. 🥰 The one with side pipes was cool. I had a 63, White, sub, auto, baby moons and red marker lights on the side. Wish I had been able to keep it longer. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing.
In 1970 i was barely 15 and we had a 63 Econoline with the 170 and 3 speed on the column, i don't remember us having to do any panic stops, I know the rear was light but that's a bit much!!
Nice vid, this is my favorite kind of show, very laid back! I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a very well kept 65 Econo ex-Bell Tele van (dark green panel w/RH windows), out of Santa Cruz. Waiting on Covid-travel restrictions to be slackened, I'm in Salem, OR..
Ill play. About 1975 my first was a 1964 gmc handivan, next 1964 econ short with windows, next 1974 dodge b200 mid sliding door no windows 318 3 speed floor shift, then 1978 dodge shorty did not keep this one, now fast forward 30 years, 1988 shorty astrovan 454- th400 window van. 295 50 15 all 4 corners..this one is the fun to drive
Hi Mike, Do you know when the next EconoWest Van Show will be at the Rosebowl in Pasadena? I've got a Bell Telephone display van from 1967. Ugly as sin, but it runs. I live in Glendale so Pasadena would be an easy drive. Thanks, Thomas
@@MikeFrankovich Thanks for getting back to me. I've been out of the Econoline loop for a few years now. Is there a website or a contact person that might have some knowledge?

On those early vans with the motor so far back is it easy to get down to the engine to work on it? The newer ones are sure a pain.
6:52 Tell that hippie to get his grubby fingers off the door, Man!
Is this show still happen?
Hi Mike,

This was the last one they had. I haven't heard anything about another show.

There’s a second gen Econoline group on Facebook. I’m sure someone’s done it on there.
