- I love a steam punk anything, particularly as it seems completely impossible to do with polymer clay, because, well....it's clay. And here we are for the second instalment of a steam punk thing that took me about 10 hours (I really should stop watching series in the background ;)
Video Features
-Steam punk bird with cogs
-How to make the wings
-How to add decoration with mica & GLITTER!!
-Adding the bird to a book
Tools:
-Black polymer clay
-Gold and bright blue mica
-Dotting tools, tissue blade, craft knife
Baking Polymer Clay:
UK instructions for baking- it's all in Celsius not Fahrenheit, which is why I don't always quote times & temperatures. I recommend using Polymer Clay packet instructions. However a good tip is to bake no higher than 100 degrees Celsius. It's better to bake at a lower temperature for longer, than higher for shorter.
Larger clay items need longer- always check after 10 mins- sometimes things fall over in the oven & can be rescued at this point. Watch for burning! Especially white as it's quick to burn (don't know why...) and can turn yellow!
Once out of the oven wait for it to cool before thinking it's baked- if it feels soft to touch, you can poke a finger nail in it or a finger print, back in the oven it goes!
Electric ovens work better as the temperature is even, gas oven temperatures fluctuate do not keep a steady temp for baking polymer clay.

Hi Gail, another wonderful piece! I love that you up cycle things you find. I think there’s magic in that. Thanks so much for sharing your talent. Have a great day.
Yeah, I've got another upcycling project coming up soon! I see art in everything, but mostly I question my self "can I make that better with polymer clay" then I take it away from the bin where someone threw it & make it better 😆 as always, thanks for watching Ellie!
I don’t think it’s over done in the top right hand corner, it just gives a reason for the humming bird to be focused on that corner. It’s been years since I have worked with polymer clay. I really need to get back into it, it was a steampunk goldfish that got me into the polymer clay over 8 years ago lol.
Thank you for sharing, I’m off to watch a few more of yours now🤗🤗🤗
Wow, 8 years, I really dont know what I would do without polymer clay for 8 years! You must get back into it! Thank you for watching & commenting! 😁
what a fab idea and stunning work , hope your keeping well, take care Gail and thanks for sharing!🤩
Thanks Maggie, this was a fun one! More in store! I am doing well thanks, hope you are as well 😁

Got to love them hummingbirds, then mix them with steam punk we have tons of fun in store. lol then add in some of Gail’s fun singing lol we really have the fun rolling now. Tfs hugs from across the pond.
I suddenly realised that it's another hummingbird when I read your comment! Whoops! I only saw steam punk! Oh and I do love a bit of singing, preferably out of tune & on purpose 🤣🤣 thanks for watching Karen! 😊😊
Really love your work thank you 😊
Thank you Sandra, that means alot! 😁

Great work, it looks amazing! And would look even beter with some partly stencilled background on the book which would connect all the elements, I love the way you simply it all, thank you!
That's a great idea! I always have a book to cover ready to go! 😄
