  • Scott Sheffield heads Irving-based Pioneer Natural Resources, a $47 billion company that is the largest oil producer in Texas. In this episode, Sheffield discusses the challenges facing drillers in the Permian Basin, why the industry is increasing the length of its laterals, the use of “damp sand” in fracking, flaring, capital discipline, and why OPEC producers will continue to dominate the global oil sector in the years ahead. (Recorded March 29, 2023.)

As a petroleum geologist, hell yeah.
Some real meat instead of just opinions from people who are intelligent but have never drilled an oil well.

Good interview otherwise. Many outsiders are saying Permian basin has peaked, is Scott talking his book, especially with the recent takeover talks or will he be proven right?

You could use the heat from the gas plants built to generate electricity to desalinate water. But yeah the price of electricty in ten years is going to be a big unknown

1:01:11 He thinks the wind and solar frauds are compatible with uranium.

Sounds like they need an onsite nuke for electricity.

With fewer pads (because each is drilling farther out), running grid lines out to the pads isn't as costly overall. Might pencil out, except he said he wants infinitely-expensive wind and solar forced onto the grid. 24:42

@@aliendroneservices6621 that would make sense because wind and solar are no threat to the fossil fuel industry.
