Since you saw this Matt you should watch and review the Justice League Unlimited episode called Epilogue it basically serves as a finale for both Bruce Wayne's Batman and for Batman Beyond's Terry McGinnis as well. The Phantasm makes a small cameo appearance it's amazing to think Andrea Beaumont still continued being the Phantasm even after this experience.
The only thing that bothered me later on growing up about BTAS was that they replaced Tim Drake with Jason Todd because they couldn't do the death of Jason so they spliced him with Tim giving him Jason's origin story and personality and just using Tim's name. Ever since then, we've never had a comic book accurate Tim Drake. Even in Young Justice where he was underused. Because DC hates Tim and it shows in the animated stuff as well as the comics. They even disrespect him by raceswapping him in Titans. Ryan Potter should of been Tim he auditioned for it and being Beat Boy seriously underminded Ryan's talent as an actor and martial artist.. They've always done this to Tim he's such an underrated Robin. They gave Tim's Robin outfit to Dick in TAS, they did the same in Teen Titans. Tim was the only Robin with a bow staff because he needed the edge to assist him in fights he wasn't as polished as Dick, Jason or Damian. He was also the first Robin to use green tights. Also, making Dick the Robin from YJ to have red devalued and insulted Tim in the comics because the reason why Tim used those colors was to honor the death of his best friend Connor Kent aka Superboy.
There was a fairly dark episode called "Over the edge" in the later seasons of BTAS about Batgirl and Scarecrow it was pretty shocking and gutsy for the time. One of my favorite episodes personally.
I watched it recently and the movie was ok but haunting; the love story between Bruce and Andrea is sad and tragic and honestly, the heart of the film. Bruce can never be happy, Andrea can never get her happy ending because of her father's ties with crime and it's heartbreaking on both fronts. I did like the look of the Phantasm, the scene at the end with Alfred talking to Bruce really stuck with me when I finished the film and the theme at the beginning scared me.
One thing I really love about this movie, is the character of The Phantasm. I think The Phantasm is one of the more underrated Batman villains. And in my opinion, probably the scariest. But what I really like about The Phantasm is... I thought they did a great job of making us feel for her. I mean, not to a point where... her killing spree, is justified necessarily, but to a point where you do truly feel for her because... she lost her father. Those mobsters killed her father. So you do feel for her to an extent, and you can understand why she wants to kill these mobsters. Because she wants revenge for her father. And even though like Batman says in the movie: "What will vengeance solve?", at the same time, you can sense the passion and the love that she had for her father, and why she's going to such violent needs. In many respects, she sort of reminds me of Two-Face the The Dark Knight. They both use to be the good guys, but then became bad guys over the death of a loved one, and now will stop at nothing to get revenge on the people whom they deem responsible for that person's death. With The Phantasm, it's her father, with Two-Face, it's Rachel. And they're also the opposite of Batman, because while his tragedy fueled him to do the right thing and protect Gotham, The Phantasm and Two-Face's tragedies lead them to take it to extreme measures. And unlike Batman's no killing rule, they have no guilt about doing away those who deserve it. And frankly, I would honestly say I think they did it better with The Phantasm in this movie than with Two-Face in The Dark Knight. Even though, don't get me wrong, I do really Aaron Eckhart's Two-Face, and I thought they did a great job of making us feel for him as well... The Phantasm gets my vote this time around.
She's had a few appearances since, but really she works best in this specific story arc. Andrea is basically a chapter of the Batman origin story, and this makes her a unique member of Batman's rogues gallery.
I could never get to munch in to this film this coming from someone grew up watching a lot of "Batman TAS" I just rather rewatch "Batman-Under The Red Hood" instead I felt that handled this type of Batman story better IMHO. There are a lot of way better Batman animated films like "The Dark Knight Returns","Batman Beyond-The Return of the Joker" that I put above this one but sadly this one is more watchable then "Batman-Year One" which I always found very boring. Fine job on the review bro!
I remember when I first saw this movie on Netflix I wasn’t expecting it to blow me away. I thought it was a excellent well written Batman movie and I think to myself why can’t Batman movies be more like this it also makes me wish if the dark Knight trilogy could be more like this but nope.
Love this movie and I can't wait to rewatch it one of these days. This has always been one of my favorite animated Batman films along with Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and Batman: Under the Red Hood which are all equally great DC animated films IMO.
The best Batman Animated movie.
I would say I like The Dark Knight Returns with peter weller more.
@@ramboraph4life I love both those films as well.
@@ramboraph4life Same. I also prefer Return of the Joker.
I recently saw The Batman vs. Dracula, from 2005. It's a good one.
Great movie! I saw it in theaters at age 11 nearly 30 years ago in Albuquerque with my mother and 16 year old brother and we loved it

Have you seen Matt’s reviews of episodes of the show?

To me, i always thought this movie was just ''ok'', But it's been a while since i seen it, so maybe i have to give it another chance someday.

I don't think Andrea Beaumont has ever been in anything else. Seems pointless. Even Talia is a bigger character than she is.
