Eddie Howe has done an incredible job to make this team playing, wonderfully fluid, dynamic football. This is a real team with a great work ethic coupled with technical ability. Champions league qualification is fully deserved.

Money buys a lot more than players; staff, data analysis packages, coaches, scouting etc. Newcastle have a higher net spend than Man U since the takeover, Chelsea quite obviously completely disregard their manager’s opinion and vision, and Everton can’t attract players like Isaak because they’re not the ‘new project’ on the block - that’s why. It'd have been mental to think of Newcastle without mentioning Saint Maximan a year ago! I remember they were forced to play him in a striking role compromising on his creativity. And look at them today! Whole video went by and no mention of him. It's not just the players brought in but also existing ones. They look reborn under Eddie Howe, kudos to the gaffer!

A lot of people will say money, but other teams like Everton, United, Chelsea, etc. have spent way more money (and all of them on paper - except Everton - have better players) but haven't been anywhere near as good.
United spent so much because they generally overpaid and bought champagne signings never players suitable for the system (because there often wasn't a very good system in place) and that's on Ed Woodward

utd have a thin squad and no money after overpriced players like ronaldo, pogba and sanchez were sighned.
They're like a lower level City. Yes a lot of investment but smart investment with the right manager in charge.
Just goes to show what could happen to a football club when they're run properly. Im happy for Newcastle fans because they've been through alot of turbulent times.
As a supporter of Newcastle and Machiavelli, I approve and I also like JJ's shirt.
If we do make top 4, I hope we prioritise the league again next season. We probably don't have the quality or depth to dream of a deep European Cup run so we need to work on consolidating our place in the top 4/6. Last time we were in Europe, Ashley didn't really strengthen the team that finished 5th (just signing Vurnon Anita) and as a result, we plummeted into a relegation scrap. Thankfully, the ambitions of the owners and also the football structure we have seem all in sync with each other so those mistakes won't be repeated this summer.
I'm guessing we're going to sign another 2-3 players for next season. Defense wise we are quite limited, similar to Arsenal.

The Athletic who are usually very accurate and don’t report without confirmation from senior club sources are saying we want to strengthen 6 positions, of course I’d expect 3 of those to be young players being brought in as understudies and 3 higher level players.

I'm no Newcastle fan, but I really like the team. I'm genuinely happy for Joe Willock and Miguel Almiron (watched him grow in MLS). I figure a versatile forward/winger, a CM, CDM, CB, and a versatile outside back will allow them to compete on two fronts next season.
Yeah they said in the video we need a bigger squad but that's not true, we just need more quality replace manguilo, kraft, lascelles, ritchie, maybe get Elliot a good loan and bring in 4-5 to replace those and we're fine.
Newcastle were very smart with their spending. I think that's the one funny thing about how fast they progressed in their project, they did it without being reckless with their money ala what we saw with Chelsea in their recent two windows. I expected to only see them reach this part of their project maybe after 3-4 seasons but it basically took them half a season to to cement themselves into that race for European spots be it CL/Europa/Conference etc

@@jdogg448 Yep 💯. And that's a solid rate to have, especially in an era where now usually clubs with money just pee it away with just signing a random mish mash of players. Newcastle have seemingly avoided that mistake so far.
@@jdogg448 *And on that same tangent it's always even surprised me how clubs end up falling into that trap when they have loads more resources and money than smaller clubs but smaller clubs end up having better scouting network's and stuff where they constantly unearth gems that they then flip to other clubs for like 10x the original fees they pay for the players. While some big clubs end up shopping like drunks just picking up anything that's on the "theoretical" shelf😂
@@TheOnlyTaps True although we don't hear about the failures smaller clubs make in transfers which probably happens a lot but because they aren't 80million centre backs it's not reported on. I guess the big clubs let smaller clubs take the risk on signing unknown players and if they can hack the premier league then they pay the premium it costs to get a "guarenteed hit". But you do wonder what scouts at big clubs are looking at when they mainly sign well known players who are already stars.
@@jdogg448 Great point. Yeah small clubs will definitely have a closet of low risk duds. And yeah i suppose big clubs don't wanna take the risk early so I guess they ultimately are willing to take that financial hit rather than do their own dirty work to unearth the gems
1 second more before restarting play doesnt magically make you 3rd place in the prem, we get found out by route one football like in the liverpool home game but other than that we've played some of the best on the eye football in the prem

We've been amazing since like February 2022.
Bit lacking squad depth but we got a really solid unit. I know we spent a lot of money since the take over but we needed too we spent nothing for years. Hoping we get a few new signings in the summer but don't go for superstars keep doing what we are doing getting the right personality.

Funny how i was watching previous videos about newcastle you guys made yesterday and now you've brought a new one. Money can only take you so far, newcastle seem to have a vision for now and are doing great.
Totally agreed with analysis on squad building. It’s actually my reason for not wanting UCL position this season tbh. I know the majority of the video is about the money and I agreed that any successful clubs nowadays requires large sum of money to operate. However, I think people need to give more credit that Howe and his staff deserved in building this squad where most of the players are from previous eras.

How can you justify not wanting a UCL position?? What benefit is there to qualifying for the Europa League instead?
UCL brings vastly greater income, exposure, sponsorships, etc etc., not to mention attractiveness when it comes to recruitment, experience for the players, greater chance of retaining the existing top players, the list goes on. If they don't get past the group stage at first attempt so be it, the schedule is no different to the lesser European competition.
UCL next season would massively expedite the redevelopment of the club and would be a monumental achievement for a club so close to relegation last season. Qualifying doesn't mean needing to spend hundreds of millions, the management of the club has shown it can be frugal and will likely only need to replace 4 or 5 of the squad that are currently not really playing. The rest are more than good enough which is why they're up in 3rd!

Thanks for your educated overview and highlighting the FFP issue. I think you are spot on in all aspects.
Hopefully now folks will be more willing to accept that although Newcastle have wealthy owners FFP means they are unable to spend as much as many other teams. As they are building from a bottom 3 team (when Howe took over) it will take time to build a squad that matches others at the top.
Champions league revenue (and new sponsors) will really help there though, NUFC could well earn twice as much money next season vs this one.

Newcastle has greater spending restrictions placed upon them than Spurs, Chelsea both Manchester clubs, Arsenal etc. The players you mention earn less than half of many prem league players - it's online should you wish to research before making uneducated claims.

The players will have been made assurances that regardless of financial restrictions, huge sums will be spent and the club will inevitably, consistently break into the top 4 as a result. Eddie Howe has spent £250m in a year and you’re here moaning about restrictions - that’s the ludicrous argument. Sven Botman, Isak, Trippier, Bruno… not one of them would’ve joined Newcastle in their pre-takeover state. Not one. That’s the significance.
They could basically use the current squad next season. Any new players will be slotted into the CL with NEW's second strong players (more rotation I mean). Normal starters get rested, likely securing CL for another season, while giving new players what they came to the club for.
Your stats are misleading. It takes 2 teams to play a game. The ball being out of play in Toon games is largely due to our opponents.

Isak is class, Henryesque sometimes. Callum Wilson is so consisten, a top quality striker through and through. Murphy is riding a massive wave of form keeping Almiron out of the starting eleven. Eddie Howe is a wizard, wonderfull manager. Also when I say Isak is Henryesque I want to point out I'm an Arsenal fan and in NOWAY saying that lightly. He still has a long way to go but in flashes it's uncanny.

When your commenting on the amount of time the ball is out of play or time wasting, please say how much that equates in actual seconds, the ball is out of play about 2 mins more than the average game... thats it.
There are no downsides to CL qualification.
Bare minimum it helps with sponsors, which is what we really need. If we are going to get some European football ahead of schedule, best option is CL.
Yeah you could even throw every game in the group stage and you've stilled earned a massive chunk of cash.
It will be tricky to manage. I think they'll come out of the summer window net +3 players, just to allow more rotation for extra games. It is very difficult to say how far they'll get in the CL, but there's a fair chance of coming 3rd in the group and then playing Europa League to the sharp end, and that's a lot more games. To keep progressing in a straight line will require near immaculate recruitment. Even if it is good I can see us taking a bit of a hit in the league to have a European run, but to have quietly made an overall step forward in revenue and squad capability to go again in 24/25. Next season I can see us 5th-7th in the league, deep into the Europa League, and hopefully fans can accept it might be 2 steps forward, 1 step back at times. I think the majority will understand it.

One injury to Tripps, Schar or Botman and we will get into trouble. If Bruno gets injured or Longstaff, our midfield will suffer and we cant play the system 4-3-3 with the spare players (everton, Villa games have proven this). If Botman injured Burn can take his place and Target can take burns place but what about Schar or Tripps? Right now only our frontline have replacements but we saw that Gordon clearly needs a preseason. Jamaal, Ritchie need to be replaced now and we need a injury replacement for Bruno, Schar, Longstaff and LW (Maxi/Gordon, Maxi is almost and so is Wilson always injured) . Its going to be a very interesting transfer window, we need a good one irrespective of Europe, question is do we get 1-2 first team backups and a bunch of longterm players or do we splash and get 3-4 firs team grade players?. We have to trust Mandy, Howe and Ashworth , they will have a plan unlike Cashley. After 14 years of misery the most exciting times to support the toon are finally here and I cant wait! Howay!

The reason why we are top of the 'time wasting' stats is because trippier takes every corner and free kick. even a free kick at the half way line we push our defenders up and attempt to put the ball in the box.
Perhaps a good idea to alternate between Trippier and Schar. Schar can whip in some good crosses too.

It's probably a combination of all the reasons you'll see in the comments. It began with the money, but as we all know money doesn't guarantee success (*cough* Chelsea *cough*). Then there's the Manager. He's done wonders. Then there's the players, who I must admit are very impressive. How the coaching staff and the players encourage each other to get better and better. and then yes there's the time wasting tactics. It is not one thing, it is many. Apart from the time wasting (which is annoying but not as bad as some people make out), all of the other things make one tasty football cake. Shame I don't support them LOL

Very lazy saying we time waste considering most of the time wasting in our games is from the opposition wasting time because they can't handle our intensity. It takes 2 teams to play football.
I mean when you think what they have budgeted for and how we are where we are the work howe is done is unreal. The squad needs improved starting xi is fine but just need more quality options. To think in a few years we can have a full 11 able to press intensively the whole 90 will be great.

Their squad isn't that thin. They've been doing brilliantly lately without Almiron and Wilson. Midfield depth might be more important to them moving forward as well as rotation options at full back.

I have some issues here.
1. It's not money - it helped obviously, but we also had a lot of credit because Ashley never spent anything. Most of these players were here before Howe. He's the reason.
2. Timewasting - if you show that not in percentages but actual time, it's only like 2 minutes.
3. We've already got a new shirt sponsor and more are incoming. Also the CL extends our potential spending by raising our income.
Good video though, I'm happy we're at least a talking point :D , not something we're used too.

Newcastle Utd was actually very lucky. They once had a boss who deeply cared about constructing sophisticated, well-linked departments and staffs from finance, scouting, sporting so as they will avoid the crysis that took them relegated years before.
From the foundation, they were able to gather good players, manage the salary well so that they can buy/sell players without compromising their finance, they can avoid Barca's financial crysis under Bartomeu and Man utd's inability to push away deadwood.
Their players are not only good technically, durable fitness, but highly flexible to interchange their positions and roles for the manager's plan. A squad filled with good and flexible players to make sure stable output on the pitch. Maybe not good enough to be a solid top 4 club for UCL, but always in top 8 and above. They also dared to depart the classic low-block playstyle to get Eddie Howe, a bold and flexible coach whose legacy slowly carried Bournemouth to PL who is willing to play with the ball more.
A good foundation would soon be pushed to overdrive as Saudi ownership is complete. With better financial pool fueling their neatly built machine, the manager has access to more capable but still flexible players to bolster their output and their revenue. Howe's team reflects both his and the club's capacity. They may not be having any big trophies, but Howe's full reign will leave a team that can proceed to win one if they have a chance to have a superstar, a player who can boost the output of the team to almost being a title contender

For clubs trying break the CL ceiling. I think you just continually focus on the league. Keep the bulk of the squad for league games and qualify again. Seen too many teams push in the CL and they wreck their league position the following season. Just get in regularly then go for it once your squads caught up organically.

I think the distinction on why we waste time is so important. A lot of people saw the tactics, plus our string of draws and wrote us off as a time wasting go for the 1 point team, when in reality we waste time so we can sustain immense pressure on the oppositions goal. We were really wasteful in finishing in the first half of the season sometimes and now we're scoring lots people can finally see that we are one of the best attacking teams in the league.
They did it without breaking bank for any world star level players too! Much respect given!

It wasn't so much the tactics of Fulham, but more the sloppy performance that made that game much tighter than it should have been.

Anthony Gordon will come good. He’s an important player for the squad because like Miggy and Murphy he has the athleticism to run for fun. He is just settling in. He needs a full preseason. Hit the post vs Southampton keep working hard Gordon your time will come. I actually think 3 or 4 quality as Howe says elite players would do us fine. Imagine Maddison, Diaby a Right sided CB and a CDM who can run like longstaff we would have enough cover to rotate providing one of our other RBS can step up when Trips is rested other wise 5 players isn’t an astronomical amount of disruption once we move on some of the squad players who don’t get a look in.

That through 2 relegations and everything Mike Ashley done the fans and the city, the fans turned up, stayed loud and loyal and kept the club looking like a potential powerhouse.
They should focus on squad depth and consistent European spots in the league. Then when they got the depth, have enough rotation for league, cup, and europe, they'll be good. Like he said, don't blow it all at once. Gradual progression

What i took from this is, newcastle spend lots of money, lots of money. They are devious, emphasized and mentioned twice. Timewasters. Fake injuries. Negative, negative, negative with a sprinkling of intensity talk, which isnt sustainable btw.
Not a mention of the intricate passing, playing out from the back, link up play, fluidity and tactical awareness of Howe. Also, if a team keeps the ball in play so little, is it not more amazing that they have scored 61 goals (5th highest ).
But it seems easier to label this team the master of the dark arts and time wasters rather then just calling them an exciting and entertaining football team.

Here in Brazil/south america, time wasting is the main resource used when a team is up 1 niall 😂😂😂 few exceptions or course but that’s 90%+ of the teams that will time waste and get loads of yellows just to break the other team’s tempo
