Thank you. I just threw out my microwave popcorn and won't be eating any more popcorn! (NO REGRETS!) I will start 'snacking' on hard-boiled eggs which I do enjoy. This has been one the most beneficial videos I've watched on TH-cam! Thank you again! 🙏🏼😊

You're a most pleasant speaker with no trace of the horrid modern speech deformities i.e. "like" and "upspeak" and "voice fry" etc. An added bonus, you don't gesticulate wildly with each word as if you were explaining to a mentally deficient audience. Thank you for the info and for the pleasing delivery.

What a great idea to check meals and snacks this way. I'm curious to try some of my favorites. One year our family was on a very low budget and we would have meals of popcorn (cheap), apples (from our own trees), and cheese (WIC help). It's actually still one of our family favorites 20 years later, and I'm in a financial place now that I could check this out to see how those things all balance out together. I appreciate Levels way of letting people do what is affordable.

As a doctor promoting LCHPMF and Intermittent Fasting I often encourage patients to have 1 square of dark chocolate to satisfy that sweet craving after dinner. If you take the 1 square and break it into 4 pieces, you now have 4 chocolate bites, but only at ~4 carbs and you satify the cravings. To make the comparison fair you had to have 3 squares. THis was a great demonstration and a reason I promote the use of CGMs as well. Nicely done! -Compton Kurtz MD

Great video. I am a diabetic, so I check my sugar at least 2 or more times a day. My go to snack is a hard boiled egg. I have learned to read the labels on any packaged snacks I buy. There is so much out there that we are buying and thinking they are a pretty healthy snack. I want to thank you for making us aware of what is best for us to reach our healthy goals.

So, cool you did this, and thank you. I have had a love of gorging on popcorn forever. I cut it out, but then added it back in, non GMO, organic, etc....but had to cut it out again, and now know why! I have a huge food addiction reaction after indulging that can last 2-4 DAYS. From your comparisons I understand why. My body really likes low carb, decent fat and protein levels with tons of greens and low carb veggies! Great experiment.

Thank you so much for these tests and all the videos. I really enjoy your calm, no nonsense, honest way of delivering information. I have been eating ketogenically for 2 months and have seen a steady & struggle-free weight loss. I wore a CGM monitor in the beginning two weeks and noticed that I had nocturnal (non-diabetic) hypoglycemia, which surely contributed to me not sleeping very well. After just 4 days of following the diet, it completely went away. Since then, my blood sugar was in a healthy range 100% of the time. Seeing this motivates me to stay on track and I would encourage people to try wearing one at least for a while.

Proteins don’t raise BG. In a salad it’s the dressing that could have sugar and be the problem. If vegetables are low carb they’re fine snd the fiber is great.

A better popcorn test would have been one that was more realistic, like eating buttered popcorn. For example, adding a tablespoon of butter to three cups of popcorn would have been closer to what one would eat in real life, and still kept the total calories to about 200.

    Thanks for the video!
My favorite snack IS popcorn (with butter). Frankly I was not shocked by the results of your testing. I rarely snack; but when I do, it’s buttered popcorn! This is how I justify its healthful effect on me:
    1. So pleasurable & satisfying.
    2. Does not give me cravings for other “bad” choices.
    3. It’s a very infrequent small indulgence. Small in regards to portion, as well as it does not end my world, so to speak.
This video has given me that internal nudge to purchase a CGM & membership with Levels. My first test will be a Diet Pepsi or Coke Zero. These two are my kryptonite. 😢

Unfortunately, as someone battling familial hypercholesterolemia and CVD both my cardiologist and lipidologist are saying a big "no-no" when it comes to egg consumption and it's potential impact on my Apo B number. So, trying to manage good blood sugar control with eggs as part of that dynamic and CVD is a challenge. I will be looking into a CGM regardless.

I looked at dark chocolate and immediately realized that the sugar content was far too high so I buy keto friendly chocolate with sugar substitutes or make my own which seems to have worked because my numbers are good.

I cannot do popcorn at all and nuts only in small amounts. I found a dark sugar free chocolate and eat two 1 inch squares a day. I do not have diabetes.

I would love ro see many more foods tested on you, to give us a wide range of understanding which foods spike your glucose and which. have a more stable response.
Some of us can not afford the cgm,
and it would be a great service to all of w us to see the effects of different foods on you, even though it will be different for us individually, it can give us a relative food to food comparison.
Thank you for considering this suggestion.

I had almost identical readings on the same Monitor that you use. I also got a very low spike from cashews. Sometimes I'm in the car for hours at a time. My go to travel snack was poptarts and chocolate milk. That one didn't go so well! lol. But I switched to cashews and sugar free muscle milk. Very stable. The monitor is definitely worth getting because everyone is a little bit different. Some foods that are known for spiking, didn't spike mine. But usually the big ones, sugar, corn, white bread, rice, all spike!

Thanks for sharing this study. Did drinking coffee moderate the results in any way? What effect would drinking water at the same time have on these results? I liked learning about insulin sensitive vs resistant persons.

I transitioned myself to dark chocolate, going from 60% cacao to 70%, then to 85% (I eat 1 oz once or twice daily). Now, 70% tastes too sweet to me. You gave 72% cacao a spike score of “4”. What score would you give 85% cacao?

My question also! I am surprised she even tested 72% over a higher cacao dark chocolate being that this channel promotes Keto/LCHF WOE. I only consume 85% & sometimes 90%.

What bugs me with the Libre-2 is that sometimes as I'm testing a food (e.g. testing every 5 minutes) the device gives me an error message that says, "Sensor Error: Glucose reading is unavailable. Try scanning again in 10 minutes." So, I wait 10 minutes and try again, only to get the same error message. By now it's too late to track the food as too much time has gone by. Note: I have used a Libre-2 on four different occasions over the past year or so and every device, at some point in time, has given me this error message.

You can go to your doctor and ask for a prescription...good luck. I have pre-diabetes. The "health" care industry WANTS be to be full type 2. So, the refuse CGM to prediabetics, because reversing insulin resistance messes with their bottom line.

Have you tried testing any "hacks" on your cgm. For example adding cinnamon to food or ACV? Or psyllium husk?
    Cooking and cooling carbs?
Drinking more water with and after the meal?

My dark chocolate only has 11 g carb, not 16 g, and I only eat a tiny bit at a time, so it doesn't spike my insulin. I have adrenal fatigue so I need the slight caffeine boost.

You just got a new subscriber (me). I have retired for 4 years and I watch on average 3 health podcasts a day (about 4,400 over the past 4 years). This has been one of the best podcasts that I have seen. I thought you had to have a prescription to get a CGM so this is good news. I got a colonoscopy 9 years ago but other than that the last time I was at a doctors office was in 1969. Will a CGM work with a cheap android phone?

So when I want to snack, I will eat eggs. Maybe pop-corn eggs i.e. cooked with butter and a fork. Thank you for this analysis. Which confirms my hypothesis that eating popcorn is not better than eating "healthy" chips.

Chips -- so hard to give up, they're so unhealthy but very satisfying in-between meals.

    • @Chercheure_Indépendante
      @Chercheure_Indépendante ปีที่แล้ว

@@feleciawallace8420 I eat the non-GMO ones of course (that's what I meant by "healthy" between comas) but there is a real spike afterwards just like the old goodie healthy popcorn. So I'm going to concentrate on the scrambled eggs instead. An economic way of losing weight, I mean as a snack of course not meaning that I'm going to just eat eggs. I'm like my cats I love snacking.
