This is a great drink. I've never had a bottle of Pusser's (and it's hard to find in the stores right now), but I've had it with Appleton Estates signature, Myers dark rum, Goslings black seal rum (easier to find than Pusser's in the US), and other rums. It's always good. The one change I make is that I think the drink is improved if you take out 1/3 of the orange juice and replace it with lime juice.
I make mine with Smith&Cross! It’s fabulous. Also 114 proof so it has the muscle to poke through the orange and pineapple juices. Love it! Love your channel too Steve!
my dad loves Pussers rum being a navy lad himself, he doesn't do cocktails though prefers it neat. I'll show him this video see if he will try it, i usually go for my own version of pina colada - with blue curacao and orange bitters. i usually use either mango DMF and/or belgrove hazelnut rums :)
I finally got around to trying out this drink. WOW! I'm not a fan of drinking Pussers straight, but it tastes delicious in a painkiller. Also tried a variation using Plantation OFTD.
Wasn’t sure about this one. Got a hold of Pussers Original. I don’t care for it on its own. In the Painkiller, tasty! This seems to be my go to cocktail at the moment. I think the pussers rum gives it a richness that I wasn’t expecting.

Hi there rum lover's for those not familiar with Pussers rum, there was a re-branding a few years ago. What is now the gunpowder proof used to be the blue label original admiralty strength that was issued to Royal Navy sailors daily until 31st July 1970 (Black tot day). There was a 40% version that had a red label and the 15 year old. After the re-brand you have the range featured in this video about a great cocktail.
Yup...spot on Duncan! Although, in the UK... the recent Pussers fans will know the Red Label as the previous 40% Spiced version circa 2014-2018 ish. Our Blue Label has been 40% for ages.
Ohhh the envy I have right now!!! I want that mug!! But I have so many already! Pain killer over Pinã any day. Unless it's a Pinã Verde! Very informative today! Gotta get the gunpowder..(and that damn mug!)
Pussers is hard to find at Asda, Waitrose or Sainsburys. Would Lambs Navy Rum be a good alternative? Woods Rum is another navy style rum that comes to mind. But for a fruit juice heavy cocktail, I'd rather stick to something reasonable as Lambs Navy rum.
Though I like the Painkiller very much, I personally like my Piña Colada more. I use 2 Plantation 3 Stars and to the usual 2 Pineapple and 1 coconut I add just a 1/4 oz lime juice and 1/4 oz orgeat to give it a little extra tartness and nuttiness without distracting from the main flavors. It's not overly sweet and blended its very refreshing. While I love orange juice I find it less compelling in a cocktail.
@@StevetheBarmanUK : Cool. Thanks for the tip. I do add a pinch of salt to my Mai Tai. I revised my Painkiller last night and it was dee-licious 1 Appleton Estate 12 1 Pusser's Gunpowder Proof 1 Cream of Coconut 1 Pineapple Juice 1 Orange Juice 1/2 Lemon Juice
I've come around on the Painkiller. My wife and I tweaked with it one day and came up with something we really like 2 Pussers GP or Plantation Original Dark works very well too. 1 Pineapple juice 1 Orange juice 3/4 Lemon Juice 3/4 Creme of Coconut 5 D. Saline (thank you) dash of nutmeg top center for scent only. If I want a Bahama Mama I just add 1/4 Mr Black and maybe a bit of grenadine for color - This may not be the most sophisticated or subtle versions but all the flavors are there and it's easy and delicious.
Need to try it with plantation 5year….no it’s not the official painkiller but my personal favourite Although not tried pussers yet My preferred recipe is 50ml rum, 100ml pineapple, 25ml orange, 25ml coconut. The painkiller is my absolute FAVOURITE cocktail! Also the history of the cocktail and pussers is very dodgy. Soggy dollar bar is where it originates but I’m sure you already know that
Yeah, I know about Soggy Dollar. Didn’t wanna get into all that. Just want peeps to try the Painkiller with the Gunpowder Proof cos it’s amazing!! Sometimes you don’t need the history, just the drink…Espesh when it’s this tasty 👍👍
@@StevetheBarmanUK yea I agree just think it’s a interesting story lol anyway it’s my all time favourite cocktail. Definitely think you should try with plantation 5yr. Beautiful. But pussers is one I need to try

Made an official Painkiller at my backyard (uk = garden) tiki bar last weekend. It was amazing. Thanks for all the great uploads, Steve!
I reckon, (apart from the Daq) it HAS to be one of THE Rum Cocktails! So so simple... but far better than a Pina Colada! Cheers for watching Laura!! x

Interesting. Will have to try that. 👍

Why thank you 🙏
I’ve made it too with S&C but even though I liked it I thought the rum was a little bit overpowering the drink so I’ll definitely try it with pusser’s
All I drank on st john :) now I make them at home
I have made it and loved it but never with pussers, will have to give that a go
Make sure you use the Gunpowder Proof!
Sure I actually have the right rum for a change, I will give it a shout out on my insta account 👍

Pussers and the Painkiller. Meant to go together I think.

The Gunpowder and the Gunpowder Spiced are phenomenal. Scarily, waaaay too easy drinking!! 🙈

Try the Pina Colada with just a hint of Salt, or Saline solution. Takes it next level!
