  • After Round 1, where we replaced the Neutral Control Switch, it worked great...for like 3 days. And then the starter died.

    Extremely helpful. Thank you for making this video. 1200 cuts and scrapes later I finally got it changed out.

    Thanks for the time you took to video this. It wasn't my starter, but the cabling that went to it. These things are so tight to work on!

    Lol...when you shook your head saying "this car" I know exactly what you mean. I've replaced just about everything in this car.

      We’ve given up on it now. Seems to be a PCM issue and we’re just over it. Top 2 worst cars we’ve owned.

    I’m willing to bet the engineers did everything they could to make the starter as hard as possible to remove. From the solenoid and wire being redundantly bound with that plastic connector, to the 3rd bolt being on TOP of the starter wedge between the solenoid and the engine block. Rot in hell those guys

    Got a Ford focus. But previous owner lost the keys. So I ordered a new starter and stuff with new keys. Will I have to program the key?

    • @rhynosgarage
      @rhynosgarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know for sure how Ford's key security worked back then, but I suspect that yes, the key will need to be programmed for the vehicle.

    Can you please tell me where exactly I can look for the starter on the bottom so I can thump it?! I just need to drive it to the mechanic!

      @rhynosgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack up the car and slide underneath, straight back from the front. All the way back so you can see the back side of the engine and you should see it. It mounts on the left (you're left when you're laying underneath looking up) and the wiring hookups are on the right.

    How did u know the negative terminal was bad? Im getting a no crack. Everything works all the lights but nothing when i start it

    • @rhynosgarage
      @rhynosgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if I’m honest, I didn’t right away. It turned out after some investigation that the threads were stripped and the terminal wouldn’t stay tight. Kept coming loose. That took a while and kind of happened by accident. Wish I had some really smart genius-level words of wisdom. But really just stumbled across it after lost of wasted time and money.

    I have a 2002 wagon. Yes. It's an enormous pain in the arse to work on.
    I'm getting ready to remove my starter this weekend.
    Where are you located and what would you ask for it?

      @chitownchiraq either of the two upper mounting bolts will work. It just needs to be a good ground.

    Hello, do you by any chance have a video of replacing the iACV or any advice on how you were able to do it? I’ve tried from underneath vehicle, I took the air box, intake tube off and still haven’t had luck…

    • @rhynosgarage
      @rhynosgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t sorry. I did that before I started the whole YT thing. I did it from underneath. I had to do it by feel though. Couldn’t see it at all. Good luck.

    my 2004 focus runs like a top with 208k miles on it, i've owned it for 9 years and my friend owned it for probably 5 or 6 years before me. Shes been run hard and beat up but well taken care of and bad or broken parts replaced. I'm about to pick up another one, automatic - mine is a 5 spd, and do a tranny swap if I can (i only want it if i can do a manual swap) as well as all my aftermarket parts - throttle body, msd ignition, headers custom exhaust and more that I would have to re-do to the new one - egr delete etc etc.

      @@rhynosgarage Not really, these cars are pretty reliable if well taken care of. In fact, the starter is a known strong suit on these cars. They usually go out after 200k.

    • @rhynosgarage

      The first time, it was probably 2 hrs. Mostly trying to figure out how to get my big meat hooks in there. I've done it 3 times now. The 3rd time took about a half hour actually.

      If you don't know how to work on cars, maybe. But parts are plenty available and quite cheap and it will easily hit 300k if taken care of. One of the best engines and transmissions Ford has ever made imo.
