It was smoother power delivery, better fuel economy when pulling the same load! You can’t beat cubic inches. Plus overall upkeep is more on my ecoboost than my 5.0L.
That Coyote motor is the sheet but I bet you get good service out of the Ecoboost if you keep the oil changed regularly and figure out what to do with all the oil blow by. Like a catch can or draft tube. We drill a 1/8 hole in the bottom of the intercooler too to let the oil and condensation drain out when parked.
I have 207k miles on my 3.5 ecoboost. All these years I’ve had it I thought it was a lot better than the 5.0. Smooth, pulls everything I needed better than the v8 could. And when I drive( I don’t drive mine hard) it gets better gas mileage. I get it, it’s a v8, the sound is great and all, but there’s no comparison between these two engines. The 3.5 ecoboost is a lot better.
Well yeah. Jason Cammisa told us years back a downsized twin turbo anything will get better fuel economy if you drive it like the EPA did; like a sedated nun. Coworker had a turbo Elantra. 13 city 32 hwy. he said the gearing kept the turbo lit in traffic
In 2019 I had to trade my '17 Ram 1500 with a 5.7L V8 for a Ford Ranger with a 2.3L turbo i4 (because my new garage was too small). Two things happened that I did NOT expect. 1 - I didn't lose any hauling or towing capability with the 4cyl Ranger. (except downhill engine braking) 2- my fuel economy was better with the full sized V8. (The Ram had the 3.21 rear gearing)
@@alexgrindnshine2522 I actually love(d) both trucks. Interior was way better in the Ram both style and comfort (Big Horn vs xlt). The Ranger lacks nothing in the power department although not as smooth and doesn't sound near as good, even with the fake engine sounds from the speakers. The Ranger destroys the Ram off road in 4x4 situations and tight parking lots. I tow a pretty big 7200# travel trailer that both handle easily. From dieselgate 1 and leaving eco diesel owners high and dry to their lack of innovation for YEARS on these trucks yet still charging PREMIUM prices to Dieselgate 2 and the second time cheating emissions to dealers playing games with pricing and charging ridiculous markups on TRX’s while RAM did NOTHING about it(possibly being involved too) to how they are screwing over 3500 loyal employees. No more mopar vehicles from me ever again.
Let’s be honest - the engine change is not for better gas mileage but to be able to charge more $$$ at the time of purchase and at 100,000 when the turbo blows
No. It's so they can advertise gaudy power numbers and still meet emission regulations. All about NoX. They would make far more selling hemis n cummins forever. Those billions in R&D have already been recouped
That's a terribly uninformed take and highly unlikely. Agree with others that the move to small displacement/turbo powerplants is a natural outcome of the manufacturer's need to produce higher mpg and less emissions. I bought a '22 GMC Sierra AT4 w/ 6.2L V8 so I could enjoy V8 power (especially the sounds), maybe for the last time. But prior to this latest truck, I actually had a Ford F150 Platinum w/ 3.5L Ecoboost V6, and it was an excellent vehicle as well. I owned it for ca. 150k miles with no issues other than replacing an injector.
Ram Charger, with a 6? WTH?! Won't be on my shopping list. None of those are. No V8, it won't be great. Marketing cannot convince the loyalists to buy a product that has been stripped of its allure. So, self destruct or bring back the V8, their choice. Because I know what mine is. 😏
I guess RAM doesn’t want to sell a lot of trucks. The pricing has gone overboard. I owned a 2021 RAM Limited and I have buyers remorse for spending so much.
I own a Wagoneer L with the standard output 3L SST. From my ownership experience so far, it outperforms every V8 I’ve ever owned in every way except for one caveat. It lacks the personality of the V8, which is very important to the truck community. I wish government regulations would get out of the way so OEMs would offer the choice of turbo or V8. For me if I were buying commuter truck, like the luxury tungsten truck I would want the 3L, but a fun truck like the Rebel I would prefer a v8. Just my opinion.
Why put that hybrid truck on EV channel. Doesn't make any sense !!!! Just leave it in your truck channel, because I will not watch your EV channel at all !!!! I appreciate it what you guys do, but it just doesn't do it for me.
Why, the turbo's are right at the top side...have you ever seen Ford's v6 turbos? They take a full day to get at before you can get a wrench on one of the bolts. This RAM set up looks actually very easy to get to the turbos. And yes, I have been in the industry for 42 years technician so I think I know.
The 2024 Rams are awesome, but these trucks (and I mean all brands) are getting ridiculous in price! I used to buy a new vehicle every two years and now I am done. I will look for used instead. Cheers!

If anything, I’d like to see them go back a step. Make more simple affordable trucks. No one wants to spend 70+k on a dodge. The cost of these new trucks has convinced me to go another direction. Currently saving up for a 1980s Bullnose F-250. For the same money as a down-payment and 2 monthly payments on these Rams I can buy one, restore everything under the hood, upgrade to softer springs and shocks and do everything with an old Ford these things can do except for big towing, which I don't plan on doing anyway.
You can fool a lot of people with a soy burger but a lot of people will only ever buy the real deal. Ram just handed 25% + of their sales to ford and GM without a v8 option
Ram didn't really need to do anything, they just made it different to say its new and charge more money. That new 6 cylinder might be faster but the old hemi v8 will definitely last longer.
I bought a 23 rebel, and the 25 is not that exciting. Looks pretty much the same and loses the hemi. I will say the extra screen on the front passenger side is interesting. But overall meh, we’ll see how well it does in a year or when the neutered trx comes out
Makes no sense they left it out. My wife’s 2018 Grand Cherokee has a power telescoping wheel so it would’ve been super easy for Fiat to raid the parts bin to add to the 1500s.
It's just the most powerful pound-for-pound engine option in American history, and actually has more power per displacement than almost every supercar in existence. No biggy
On the opposite end we got one of the very early or first hemis back in 2003 for our area. It’s in a 2500 regular cab. Heck we even somehow have the Nebraska plate HEMI as it was still available.
I'm just glad the Hemi is being put to bed. It's an outdated dinosaur of an engine tbh, all it was good for was going fast in Hell Cats. The new Hurricane is ok, but EV is still preferred by most. The brilliant thing is now that there are a lot of EV trucks it opens up the market to a lot of new consumers who want the EV efficiency with the practicality of a truck.

5.0 has a terrible powerband for a truck. No low end torque. Just sounds good. One of the last trucks I'd ever buy is a 5.0 Ford.
Well yeah. Jason Cammisa told us years back a downsized twin turbo anything will get better fuel economy if you drive it like the EPA did; like a sedated nun.

Two things happened that I did NOT expect. 1 - I didn't lose any hauling or towing capability with the 4cyl Ranger. (except downhill engine braking) 2- my fuel economy was better with the full sized V8. (The Ram had the 3.21 rear gearing)
That’s crazy your mileage wasn’t better with the ranger. How did you like your ram and what was your mpg
It's for emissions but it also gives you better pulling power. Torque comes in at lower RPMs and the curve is flatter.
projecting much? In reality there is no way to validate your comment.
@billseiler4952 lol stupid comment. No your wrong. 💀
No eTorque on the hurricane? What happened to their industry shattering technological breakthrough?
It did it's job. It got about 1 mpg better overall for 5.3 hemi which can be a lot of money over the ownership period of the truck.

Definitely curious about the upcoming years. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Oh my, High strung turbo engine made by dodge. What could go wrong?
Dodge and Ram are two different companies.😊
Two different brands made by the same company😊
What’s the mpg been like? Better than a HEMI?
My air is more important than your truck engine choice

Why, the turbo's are right at the top side...have you ever seen Ford's v6 turbos? They take a full day to get at before you can get a wrench on one of the bolts.
