Dago, it depends where in your power band you want your power to be. Mid to upper, go with a 3" or if you want it a little more towards the mid range go with a 2 1/2'

Your engine isn't moving water, its moving very hot expanding gasses. You want to have the maximum velocity through your exhaust system with the minimum backpressure possible. An exhaust system with too large pipe diameter will get a reduced flow velocity of the exhaust gasses. The flow velocity of the exhaust gasses assists with scavenging. This is because the flow velocity of the exhaust creates a low pressure immediately behind it that sucks more gasses out of the combustion chamber.

My GMC C3500HD (454 Vortec) came with two 3'' pipes going into the factory muffler, and then just one 3'' pipe coming out the back. I had a muffler shop replace the muffler with a straight-through Holley FlowMonster (PART# 12599-FM) with two 3'' inlets and two 3'' outlets. Not sure if I lost any torque but it sure does sound better!

Love that cutting block! I wonder if it would work as well with stiffer hose though

The size pipes determines on power to the GROUND or at the CRANK?
