Man I miss how good this phone felt in the hand. The curve fit in your palm naturally and it felt so good to use. Definitely one of my favorite old android phones.
Ward Welch Yea I got it as well and now thinking back remember how shitty phones from that time were compared to what we have today, aka s9 and note 9 lol
Yourvideos are UNBELIEVABLY slick, I mean, those silky camera sweeps and the soft focus look like they just came out of an advert! Keep up the awesome work!
Future check. This is me from 2019 February. Phones are nearly 6 inches with no bezels and there's hole punch cameras. There's on-screen fingerprint displays. Look at how far we've come
I'm a galaxy note 8 owner as of now & im proud to say that this was my very 1st galaxy (the nexus) ive been with galaxy every since this phone! I loved it
Oh how times have changed! This is the phone that, as an old time Samsung fan, I always wanted and never got. It was funny hearing you say that the 4.65" display was massive and the perfect size back then when now you use the Pixel XL because the Pixel is too small. Although it's increasingly difficult, it would still be fun to see some rooted phones with custom ROMs in them. Great videos back then and great videos now. Keep it up man.
Agreed. I LOOOOOOVED my Galaxy Nexus, BUT the battery life made me want to put my head through a freaking wall! So, I bought two extra batteries. But a great phone!
This was my upgrade from my Samsung Replenish, freaking loved this phone, it was a Hail Mary from the prior phone. Comfortable, fast, durable, and so customizable
Just picked up a Galaxy Nexus. I'm a graphic artist/web designer stationed in Atlanta, and i truly appreciate the flexible mobile work environment Google has provided. Android 4.1 combined with AT&T's 4G LTE makes for a device that represents the essence of productivity.
Samsung already made a phone with no front facing button since 2011 with the Galaxy Nexus, but it didn't become a permanent feature until Galaxy S8 was released at 2017
@@signifierxyz nope, the droid and S1 were in that awkward transitioning period between modern smooth Android and old school windows/Symbian phones. The galaxy Nexus was the first phone to have the Android ice cream sandwich, which was the first Android version that paved the way to the Android as we know it nowadays.
I just ordered a Nexus with Sprint, can't wait to get this beast! Just wanted an easily rootable device with the newest OS, the screen on the Nexus is great. Really hope it arrives before I come back from work tomorrow
Wow i liked your video a lot, english isn't my main language but your pronunciation is very clear and i like the style that you have in your videos, very nice work. Keep going. Cheers
My favorite features of this phone are HD video playback and the texting. The SMS texts UI looks fantastic and videos definitely look great. I wish the speaker was louder, but its all good.
Amazing reviews/videos. I think I just sat and watched like 20 videos today. At the very least. (Not trying to sound creepy) but keep up the good work man.
One of the beautiful phones I ever used. That TV off lock animation, that rgb notification light, and just fluid GUI. I was amazed by how fast the browser was on that phone when I first got it. Hoped I didn't trade it for Galaxy S6.
Using this phone for past 3 years ,running cyanogen kitkat rom still the best . This phone has decent hardware to support for even more years to come .
I just downloaded this rom build 33. It pretty insane I can almost over clock my CPU to 1.5 ghz. I've had this phone since December and its hands down the best smart phone I've ever had
~Great stuff my friend, i really like your reviews, you are natural, not like other chanels where they all tryin' to do weird voices and things like that, your chill and natural. Great stuff, love your reviews. Keep up the good work brotha'!
I have a nexus and it's speakers are not amazing, but don't worry you can download an app of the play store called volume+ which makes the speakers a ton better!
The Cheerios didn't change, but the guy I used to watch like in this video isn't the same today. It just reminds me why I have had such a major shift in heart towards you modern times. #2017 for my comment for the future.
I just bought this phone. I installed AOKP rom with Franco Kernel and this phone is simply amazing for its age! I'ts decent all stock but this phone is a must for custom roms. One thing to add, MKBHD said battery life was good but later on mentioned he upgraded the battery and still barely lasted him a full day. He also made this review at governor performance that keeps the CPU clocked at it's highest rate. Generally not many run that.
I had the VZ Galaxy Nexus for almost two years. It was the greatest phone I have ever had so far. Period. I have a Moto X now, though. Once I had two years with on screen buttons, I couldn't go back to capacitive.
i am soo liking my nexus especially with the unlimited text talk and data plan i'm on btw in my line of work the GPS and Google maps on this are a BIG help
it's not about kernel dude, it's all about the integrated partly chips provided in the system augmentation. if you wanna get rid of lags on the UI, u should flash the MIUI rom :SS
Just FYI the iPhone's use a micro sim card while the Galaxy Nexus uses a the standard size sim card. I switched from an iPhone 4 to a S II (uk version) and no problem at all with my data plan.
Excellent vid, seriously. Your presentation is to the point, and you answered my questions exactly. (I'm a 4-year iOS veteran... so this may sway me to Android)
Galaxy nexus is the developer phone. There is so much customization with ROMs, themes, kernels etc. It also has a higher pixel density ("retina display" levels) at a huge screen at 720p. You buy it for the "google" experience. Honestly, both are great phones. I have the sgs2 on sprint, but I'm looking at the unlocked gsm play store galaxy nexus because I can pop in a t-mobile prepaid sim and have equal coverage and faster data at only $30 a month. PM for details.
"4.7 inch display is too big for my hands"
5 years later
"So this 6.2 inch S8+ display feels comfortable not too small not too big"
xD
He grow.
@@Rogheeb90 phones screens grew by shrinking bezels tbh
skip 5 years and say this haha
I'm watching on the "compact" 6'2 S21 now...
They finally quit getting bigger. Most agree slightly over 6" is perfect 😂
"I think anything over 4.8 inches might be a little too big"
- Marques Brownlee
***** He uses the Note 3 quite a lot, and it's got a 5.7" display. Says it fits in his hand just fine.
In another couple of years:
"I think anything over 7.5 inches might be a little too big"
In a couple of years 5.7 meters is not that big
Israel Jauregui now 6.3 isn't small
uhh, nowadays 6,2 inch is good 8,9 is little too big.
Awesome review. I'm seriously considering switching to Android for a few months when the Galaxy S3 comes out.
whoa
Can’t believe this was 9 years ago 😂. Came a long way
😂😂😂
Same! Can't wait for the S3 to come out!
Man I miss how good this phone felt in the hand. The curve fit in your palm naturally and it felt so good to use. Definitely one of my favorite old android phones.
Yes! Never had a phone that feels like that. I miss that phone. My favorite ever.
This is honestly hilarious to watch in 2019.
Graigoree Jones hahahahahha
2020
Agreed but now I'm watching it in 2021 this was my first smart phone
So are you.
Back than Temple run was Crisis of android phones 🤣🤣🤣
Back when 4.65in was big and 720p looked amazing...
The advancements in technology that we have made over the last couple of years are amazing
New iPhone SE is still on 720p anyway.
2024 here
You ain't seen nothing yet
Funny how 4.8 was too big, but now he's using a Nexus 6p.
lel
lool
And Asus rog 2 phone now
BigRafTV Oh sweet summer child
S20 Ultra :)
Shoutout to people watching after the every Google phone review in 2021!
Still one of my best MKBHD videos
This was 6 years ago. Amazingly interesting to watch today and already so fluidly orchestrated Marques
dude!!! I remember watching this video after getting sick of my iPhone 4 and buying the galaxy Nexus I still watch your videos till this day
Ward Welch Yea I got it as well and now thinking back remember how shitty phones from that time were compared to what we have today, aka s9 and note 9 lol
Revisited this review after remembering I owned a nexus phone before.. I didn't realize it was 12 years ago... How time flies so fast.
It's so funny to hear him gushing about the GNex and its 720p screen. My, how times change.
This is the best nexus ever made.
Ikr. This is wierd, we have come so far in 2 years
Man the quality of your videos is awesome, I like all the camera panning stuff you do, makes it look very professional. Keep it up!
Many years later and this phone is still worth every penny you spend.
so fucking true
2 years
plus, android l is coming out on it.
Lollipop
***** yeah because it is not meant to be used with 4.4
so it absolutlly won't be able to carry lollipop
Yourvideos are UNBELIEVABLY slick, I mean, those silky camera sweeps and the soft focus look like they just came out of an advert! Keep up the awesome work!
This review is what convinced me to get my Gnex. Happy to report that my Gnex is still going strong after over two years of use!
You have the Sprint one right?
Verizon.
Man!! How technology has changed!!
Even your videos which I'm still a fan of thank you for this video
Same
Own a Galaxy S6 Edge now, but this phone still has a special place in my heart
Agreed. 4 years later and my galaxy nexus is still a great phone
I own a s6 edge plus :v
Note 9 here
I remember this like yesterday. Great device. Had loads of fun with it. One of my most memorable phones for me.
Future check. This is me from 2019 February. Phones are nearly 6 inches with no bezels and there's hole punch cameras. There's on-screen fingerprint displays. Look at how far we've come
It's 2023 and I'm taking the trip back in time 😁
lol came here after the Nexus 2016 video
Same here wow XD
Watching this video from my Nexus 5. I love reminiscing and seeing how these phones have evolved over the years.
but still, the galaxy nexus is a great phone!
Its crazy how much happened in 2 years in the phone world
Even crazier now
I'm a galaxy note 8 owner as of now & im proud to say that this was my very 1st galaxy (the nexus) ive been with galaxy every since this phone! I loved it
Who here after his twitter comment on his fav phone?
4.8 too big, S20 ultra 6.9 hold my beer.
This was my first smartphone...loved it! I can't think of a better intro to the smartphone world.
When he says that anything over 4.6 inch is too much, I just look at my 6 inch nexus 6...
how bout my s8+ from 2017 ;) 6.2 inch of greatness lol
QCAnubis3 how about my phone 6.33 inch screen and a he screen
What about my 6.67 inch OnePlus 7 Pro
Funny enough that was about where google has stabilized for 5 years. My Pixel has roughly same screen size as yours...
@Marques I'm here in 2023! nice to see how much you have grown. Kudos to you.
Old MKBHD should try the Nexus 6 (=
+Sean Richmond How about the 6P
#Truth!
#Penis

Do a Galaxy Nexus revisited video!!!! 👍📲
Man I really did laugh at 1:38. Your voice is so professional and all, and that just slid in out of nowhere. Good stuff man, your vids are great.
My first android device. :') Never looked back.
You do an incredible job reviewing phones concise fluid and intelligent. I'll be coming to your site first when looking for a review in the future.
2014, i still got it... and i LOVE IT.... only the battery life ruins it

"anything over 4.8 inches might be a little too big"
Oh, how far we've come.
Lmaooo now we have 6 inch nexus phones. I really like the big screen but unfortanutely i got the tiny droid turbo
Waiting on my note 9 with it's 6.4 inch 😂
I watch a lot of reviews, and I think this is by far one of the best one's I've watched so far. Keep up the good work bro
That galaxy nexus tweet
Samsung already made a phone with no front facing button since 2011 with the Galaxy Nexus, but it didn't become a permanent feature until Galaxy S8 was released at 2017
Who else here watching in 2019 because they randomly remembered how great this phone was!
im starting to press LIKE even before i watch your videos cuhz theyre all so consistently awesome!
Never did I think my teacher would use this video for an example of a review.
Watching this in 2019. You've come so far Marques! :D
this phone is still awesome
My dad just gave me this as my first phone, yes in 2022- Poor me at 16. Anyways impressed as to how it still kinda works mostly even now.
This is the first modern Android smartphone.

The notification light though ✨️

hello I am from Future
Syed Kamran Khalid From "the" future. Not..."from future".
Hello all I am from the further future. Notches.
Graigoree Jones And I am from the more further future. Our species of pop-up cameras and punch hole notch will dominate you puny notches.
Yes, the AOKP rom he is running on the phone allows for customization of the navigation bar software keys.
Anything above 4.8"too big 😂😂😂 now we're pushing 7" PAUSE
Thanks for putting the ROM and Kernel Link in the description! most people wouldn't do that!
Who else is watching this video in 2020?
Dayyaaamnnn i remember when i saw this 3 years ago... didn't knew i will going to be ur fan lol
Anything above 4.8 inches... Marquees...

Who's watching 2017?
The fact that this review style and quality still holds up in 2024 is wild!
I upgrade Friday and have been debating through tons of phone and this review helped me choose. Thanks.
How I miss the custom ROM days....
Seriously great videos man. Been watching them all afternoon. Straight BOSS. Keep it up
