Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Picaridin Towelettes is the best thing in the world for tick prevention. I participated in the Gettysburg 150th Civil War Reenactment where out of 20k reenactors about 1000 came down with tick borne illnesses such as Lyme disease. My entire unit used it and not a single one of us got sick. Thanks for sharing your kit and ideas. Cheers!
A lot of people don't think about the creepy crawlers & biting flyers. Ticks & chiggers etc... Are no joke when you're crawling around. Mosquitos will make you miserable. All can carry disease. 40% or greater DEET works well for me, just don't get it on plastic gear or it will melt your stuff(that's the only downside). Picaridin works, but not quite as well in my experience. Permethrin coating clothes & gear + one of the other sprays used every 6-8hrs has always kept me clear from bites.

I was there too! My son and I leased and wrangled horses for the confederate artillery officers. My son and I picked ticks off each other every night before we went to bed. When people were horrified that they found a tick on themselves, our reply was “only one?“ What a great event that was, I will never forget being there!
I thought about testing out some budget knockoff carhartt type pants in a brown color and painting them to my local environment colors just because theyre cheaper, easier to acquire and i can customize how i need for season
I've gone back and forth on this and since I did this video over the summer I have gone back to carrying a field knife on my 1st line kit. For a fighting only kit then sure, it makes sense to have it on 2nd line gear (like the chest rig) but I really think with my use being more field oriented that keeping it on my body makes more sense.
Chest rig is the AT Armor Light Scout Rig. Here is a video I did on it: th-cam.com/video/ijMSiMcBTWU/w-d-xo.html Link to Chest rig: store.atarmor.com/AT_Armor_Light_Scout_Rig_p/at-lsr.htm
From Smoke Effect... smokeeffect.com/collections/ring-pull-smoke-bombs I've been using them for a few years now. The dual vent ones are solid and the RP90 is a mainstay smoke. White and/or black are great for concealment and breaking contact. Colored are great for marking and signalling.
I've gone back and forth on this and a lot of the time I'll have a .22 pistol in my pack. Purely from a survival aspect. But it isn't necessarily a normal part of my patrol kit to have it on my gear or belt line. But you will see me carry one from time to time, in fact my last patrol video I'm carrying one. Now, most of my patrol videos are from out at our camp and I always have a pistol on me in camp. So I guess it depends. I probably didn't answer your question but I don't have a hard reason one way or the other.
Bright blue is the third Search and Rescue color after Safety Yellow and Safety Orange. In the fall, yellows and oranges do abound but bright blue does not appear in nature in any quantity.
I can’t stress enough how terrible Velcro for a patrol/recce rig is, Or how terrible it is in general. Professionals and I’m talking real ones cut the Velcro off uniforms and put the buttons back on or put the one sided Velcro over it(sleeve pockets).
Indeed hook & loop is awful on gear, just crawl through some mud and see how it all comes undone. And it's useless once it's caked. Old school buttons 100%

I've tested that same Bear Creek Arsenal upper (608N), it's excellent
I approve.

Let the Good Times roll, Rockin your gear Jay. NICE.
Nice
Get you some cargo pocket blue jeans, so you can carry some of your small essential items that you take out of your chest rig…
I'm interested in your thoughts about a fixed blade knife carried with 2nd line gear versus with 1st line gear.

Question.
What can you tell us about the smoke you had, brand etc

Gotcha
Is there any defense against drones?
They seem to be very effective overseas right now.
Blue is the worst color for concealment fyi

Also 8 inch boots, calf high socks that you can fold over your boots and pants that you can tie off around your boots. Thank me later after we win.
