  • This is an example of Target's repair methods being used to repair a building that is subsiding. It incorporates Bar Flex crack stitching, Bar Flex masonry beaming and Heli Pile underpinning.
Firstly, Bar Flex masonry reinforcement is installed at multiple levels to create elastic masonry beams. This will allow the imposed loads to span over weakened ground and between the pile points without the masonry cracking. Bar Flex is also used to crack stitch over any cracks in the masonry.
The Heli Piles are then installed quickly and unobtrusively to help support the foundations and prevent further movement. As you can see, the Heli Pile provides a quicker, cleaner solution to traditional underpinning methods and requires very little excavation.
Finally, Bow Flex is installed into the second floor joist to provide a clean fix to bowing walls.

Hello, very interesting video. I'm intrigued, why do you do the crack repair before the foundation repair? I would have thought that came afterwards 🤔

(Precursor I know nothing about this kind of work just curious) I get the stitching of the walls lateral force and stop the pulling apart but how does the load transfer with the pile driving work? That metal mesh looked pretty thin? Is it sinking or shifting it solves?

Hi, no problem! At timestamp 8:00, the concrete pile cap is used to transfer the vertical load of the building to the Heli Pile. it is typically a 450mm cube of concrete reinforced with 3 hoops of 8mm Bar Flex. Shown at 8:25, each piece of Bar Flex has a shear strength of 9.2kN, giving this particular connection a shear capacity of around 5.5 tonnes. In addition, independent testing has has shown the bond strength of this concrete is around 20 tonnes in shear, which is not accounted for in this connection. Hope that helps to answer your question!

Thanks I'm tempted to use the Helifix system to correct subsidence in my garage. I just bought the house been told it's been cracked for a number of years, so I'm unsure if stitching will solve it or will it need underpinning. I wouldn't carry this out on my house but tempted to cut corners on the garage and go DIY

If you have any questions, you can contact my colleagues at technical[at]targetfixings[dot]co[dot]uk. We are usually able to visit your house (if you are in the UK or Netherlands) and provide a specification if that is helpful? Alternatively you can call us on 01672 812 900. Any specification is no-obligation and free of charge. We manufacture the Bar Flex ourselves and we are able to supply the materials direct if you want to do the repairs yourself, or if you want us to do the repairs we can also do that.

the movement is underground this should be addressed first . The problem still exists and more movement will occur. underpinning is required .
