SNK made "Alpha Mission"/"ASO: Armored Scrum Object" in 1985 as an answer for Tecmo's "Star Force" released in 1984. Ironically, "Final Star Force" was released in 1992 as an answer for SNK's "Alpha Mission II"/"ASO II: The Last Guardian", released one year before on NeoGeo MVS and AES systems.
I guess the idea of keeping the game interesting was switching up the way you played the game by whiching the ships you played and adjusting to a different style.
good play bySCHLAUCHI, but...please allow me to correct you: this isn't Star Soldier, it's StarForce. many degrees of difference: SS is developed & sometimes published by Hudson Soft (which has recently been bought by Konami), SF by those punkass hacks at Tecmo. SS is still going strong; latest of its series is a DLCGame on the WII, SF was finalized with this one. still a good play nonetheless. BOYCOTT TECMO!!!

I like how the music changes with every different weapon.
Shoot'em Up's are probably the only games in which you actually wish for slowdowns because they can save your life :D
"Your service might be told hand down." Ok, Mr. Miyagi.
fun fact!!
the song that plays during a boss fight (1:51) is reused in Ganbare Ginkun for the chicken motorcycle minigame!
It's FINAL STAR FORCE, The Arcade Hit From Tecmo!
The last star force
That is some sublime Engrish there at the end.
Hey this is quite a unique SHMUP in where songs change as you select power-ups, cool! :)
I agree with brian setoe, it's fun having the music change with your weapon. Though does anyone have any idea what the guy says between levels?
"HHHHOOOOOOOOOUUUUU-GWWAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!", as far as I can tell.

If you describe your conflict as the long boring war, you're not saying much about your game.
Arcade Star Force came before Famicom Star Soldier, so your point is moot.

Do you know that Star Force came BEFORE Star Soldier? Tecmo is a far more competant company than Hudson ever was.
This reminds me of Super spacefortress macross
