Just pulled the trigger on a Navitimer, my first luxury wrist watch! Ended up going with the 43mm black dial with gold wings, the AB0120 from two generations ago. Should be arriving this week in the mail and I could not be more excited. Most will disagree but I've always thought the Navitimer had the coolest loooking dial in all of watchmaking due to its slide rule. I will say I'm not a huge fan of the new models though, I don't like most of the new colors aside from the black 43 and white 41 models but not a fan of the blue, ice blue, green or mint green ones. Too playful for a serious watch like this in my opinion. Also I really don't like how they removed the tachymeter scale and the new ones just don't look the same to me because of that.
You can replicate the tachymeter quite easily with the slide rule so I don't mind that too much. Think it helps modernise the dial a bit by making it cleaner but I can understand why some people aren't a fan. My gripe is that the slide rule isn't angled as steeply, the watch looks a bit shallower. Still incredible to look at and wear though.

Breitling's history and back catalogue of designs is phenomenal, but I feel they are failing to hit the right notes with watch collectors. For example, their recent superocean release looks AWESOME and aesthetically appeals to people who understand the deep cut history of the slow chronograph. But then they ruin the magic by relegating the big minutes rehaut to just a design feature with no actual slow chrono functionality.
I think this is the winner in the battle with speedy for sure. In order for speedy to win my heart it will have to go automatic and provide more dials in the 42 and under range. I like them from far but the plastic looking black dial really could be refreshed imo. That’s where Rolex Daytona is the best imo, they don’t try to stick as close to the original design which allows them to make the watch which delivers the qualities of better everyday wearer (for example water resistance and simpler look), that’s how such watches end up on wrists of famous people in the end of the day.
Among pilots, we have some grail watches. The Navitimer is one of them, together with GMT Master II and IWC Pilot Chronograph. When someone is promoted as a Captain, is a tradition to get a nice watch. As now the GMT Master II is out of reach at retail price, and lost a bit the aviation related spirit, becoming more a fashion watch for travellers and non travellers, this ice blue Navitimer will be a strong contender to Rolex. I've never considered Daytona a pilot watch. Is a nice chrono, a bit overrated in my opinion. As an "honourable mention" I would say now the Tudor BB GMT is becoming very popular among pilots community, as it gives the same robustness and function of the Rolex, without having headache or concerns while working around the planet.
These beautiful Breitlings need to be seen and worn in the flesh. At The Mall in Shorthills NJ there is an Omega, Breitling, and Rolex boutiques. I’ve visited the Omega and Rolex ADs many times and always overlooked the Breitling. Last week I stopped by to see the latest Navis. Absolutely stunning, wear much smaller than expected, also felt very substantial . I will be buying a Navi at some point. If you are like me, don’t automatically dismiss Breitling. You’d be doing yourself a disfavor.
wish i can get a cosmonaut at a more affordable price. i've been using the circular slide rule to calculate tip for years since learning multiplication. didn't learn the other functions...
I'm looking for a pre 2010 Navitimer Montbriliant Olympus 19350 (ETA7751) Triple D8. I know Omega makes a speedmaster triple D8 for half the price but I don't like date windows!??? That why I like the Breitlings...!! RE PS. How much for this one??
Then apply for a job at Breitling and show them how to do it. Easy job for you and you’ll earn a ton of money. Then you move on to the other watch manufacturers as there are plenty facing the same issue.
Is anyone else disturbed by the red speckles of paint under the chronograph second hand that gets reflected on the high polished hour and minute hands ? I can't unsee it.
YES!!!!!! (and that tiny speck of dirt on the dial next to the logo) It's something you would never see with the naked eye, but in these macro shots it is SOOOO distracting I don't think I could own one because I know it's there.
@@jasonchaney5382 yeah I saw the tiny black something next to the logo too. So that is why (to me) given the choice between this one and a speedy I'd take the speedy. And, we can appreciate for the same price (and probably a bit less) grand seiko finish is stunning
This latest iteration seem to have one less line of number marker? I haven't learnt what it's supposed to calculate but I think the charm of the navitimer is the ultra busy dial, the new one is still cool but I think I would prefer it keeping that extra line. 🤔 Anyone got an opinion on that?
The new models removed the tachymeter scale. As someone who owns this watch I don't miss it at all. If for some reason you desperately need to calculate the speed of something just divide 3600 by the elapsed seconds. E.g. 20 seconds is 3600/20=180 and 3600/45=80. What I really miss are the schneider era wings. The AOPA is better than the 'b' but still not as good.
@K Hazelnut I spent a bit of time learning the watch and how to use it but nobody in person has ever asked me lol. You're right though, I find using the slide rule is slower than just calculating it.
We use the Citizen now. GMT is important, but in yacht management, fuel conversions are much more common, especially in the Caribbean. Love the old Navi hands down, still use one.
Alas, my eyesight is no longer up to to the task of reading those teensy little numbers, but my ancient Navi still holds pride of place in the collection. :D
Beautiful watch. Why is the smaller second hand 10 seconds out from the main second hand? I’m probably going to get crushed for asking this but I say if you want to learn ask those who know.
Smaller second hand is the actual second hand - always in motion. Larger sweep-second hand usually sits still at the twelve o’clock position - only moves when the stopwatch function is engaged. Cheers!
Perhaps on some low end models, but not that I've seen. Their B01 movement in this model, chronomat, superocean Heritage line and others is so highly thought of that Tudor wanted it for their chronographs. As far as the seconds hand goes, nobody looks at the bottom of the hand except through a loop or extreme macros in a video. That just sounds like nitpicking. Ever seen the bottom of a Rolex second hand? Or hour or minute hand for that matter. Probably Grand Seiko or once you get above Rolex, Omega, etc... will you see finely finished backs of hands.
@@jazzyrick You’re 100% correct regarding finishing. The finishing expectations by some of these commentators are unrealistic for Breitling or a lot of other watches under $10K.
Hi People! I’ve recently purchased a new Navitimer online and I’ve noticed there’s a small peck of dust/metal shrivel on the dial. The watch is under warranty, sold on c2*, listed as brand new/unworn. Has anyone had experience like this? Shall I have breitling take care of it as a manufacturer issue under warranty and wait, or send it back to the seller?
I love what Breitling is doing, no doubt they make some handsome pieces. But my ocd is kicking in with these macro shots. Is it just me? Or is that red hand just unfinished and unpainted on the bottom side?
The underside of the chronograph seconds hand is disgustingly lacking any polishing or paint. This is unacceptable for a watch of that calibre. Look at the reflections
Agreed, but many expensive watches look like that (e.g. my Heuer Autavia). The issue is that there is so little clearance between the hands. The upside is that you will never see it unless you look at your watch with a loupe. It bothers me, nonetheless.
I’m watching this video because I’m thinking of buying this watch and a Chopard Mille Migila 2022LE tomorrow from Mappin & Webb and I am going to be honest that second hand looks so rough it’s making me reconsider it.
Speedy is a good watch and all, but why we have to all have the same tastes in the watch hobby? Feels like that sometimes. I've always preferred the Navitimer.

They couldn't paint the bottom of the seconds hand red? The reflection of unpainted bottom of the seconds hand really bothers me, especially for this price.
They're nice but they have low water resistance. Don't the Navitimers only have 30m? I realize it's a pilot watch but for everyday sport wear it should have at least 100m water resistance. The Sinn 903 does. My Hamilton Khaki Chrono does too...
It's a pilots watch, if you want to compare a dive watch consider the Avenger seawolf or superocean. Maybe Super Chronomat. Navi is the best at what it does.
@@Ninjamlm IWC OK but Hamilton? Not comparable. As for the Sinn, good watch but I'll put in like this, you go to the bar in the 903 and the guy next to you is wearing a 43 Navi on a bracelet. It's like pulling up to the lights in a Boxster and the guy to your right has a 911....

My first love will always be my Hesalite Speedy, but I’ve found myself googling Navitimers more and more in the last year or two. They really do have the equivalent legacy and, dare I say, beauty of design. I’d probably rate Daytona behind an Apple Watch.
It’s weird, I usually like clean and simple design in most of my watches but the navitimer is just the right amount of clutter once you realize it’s function.
Couldn’t agree more, leather strap is definitely a better. Own the silver dial version on the brown leather strap, the golden accents definitely give a more expensive vibe there. Amazing video, thanks.
Drives me mad that the finish is so high in almost every respect, but every time the seconds hand sweeps over the mirror finish of the other hands, you see how badly the underside of the seconds hand is finished, not a big one to fix Brietling…!
Thanks Daytona for being the benchmark, lowering the bar, and making many more out there become rockstars! Grear content, as usual! Always learning something new. Thanks!
Oh how it bugs me when the seconds hand goes past the polished markers or hands and you can see that the bottom of the seconds hand is neither polished nor painted but has paint splattered around. I think they could do better at that price range...
The navitimer and the Seamaster 300m are the best looking watches ever made imo. The latst interation of the navitimer is just sublime- looks way more luxury and expensive than ANY Rolex or even most of the Holy Watch Trinity.
Find out the Sinn 903. In 1978 Helmut Sinn bought the rights and lots of movements from that time bancrupt Breitling company. The 903 provides in many versions same iconic design, but is far ahead in tech details for even half the price of the Breitling.

Why isn't the under side of the second hand polished? it detracts from the rest of the watch.
Brietling Navitimer 747 limited edition is unbelievably gorgeous
is that a dust particle on the dial?
the amount of dust under the crystal is distressing for such an expensive watch
I'm looking for a pre 2010 Navitimer Montbriliant Olympus 19350 (ETA7751) Triple D8. I know Omega makes a speedmaster triple D8 for half the price but I don't like date windows!??? That why I like the Breitlings...!! RE PS. How much for this one??
5:09 the finishing on the underside of the chronograph hand 😬
That’s Hublot level.
Then apply for a job at Breitling and show them how to do it. Easy job for you and you’ll earn a ton of money. Then you move on to the other watch manufacturers as there are plenty facing the same issue.
Do you imagine you could see that without a loupe?
@@TheBrendonian yes probably
@@diavalus might be the most extreme reply ever but I admire your ambition and confidence in my abilities!
@@nkonig1 clearly you have special eyes! Honestly though, you really won’t. I don’t think you appreciate the level of magnification in this video 🙄
Is anyone else disturbed by the red speckles of paint under the chronograph second hand that gets reflected on the high polished hour and minute hands ? I can't unsee it.
YES!!!!!! (and that tiny speck of dirt on the dial next to the logo)
It's something you would never see with the naked eye, but in these macro shots it is SOOOO distracting I don't think I could own one because I know it's there.
@@jasonchaney5382 yeah I saw the tiny black something next to the logo too. So that is why (to me) given the choice between this one and a speedy I'd take the speedy.
And, we can appreciate for the same price (and probably a bit less) grand seiko finish is stunning
I see it!!
I would think that just dipping the hand in paint would solve the problem, much neater. 👍🇨🇦
Disgusting
@@attila2246 what is 3600 / 17 😰
@K Hazelnut 360/17 is about 21 so roughly 210.
@@attila2246 sounds like you don't need a scale on a watch at all 🤣🤣
@K Hazelnut I spent a bit of time learning the watch and how to use it but nobody in person has ever asked me lol.
You're right though, I find using the slide rule is slower than just calculating it.
One question though, if it's twice as good, why don't people go amok for these?
I was at the cosmonaut event in may and got to see the Scott Carpenter cosmonaut. Once in a lifetime
Could you please make a video about "Lobinni Interlaken 12026" watch? I'd love to wait for it before ordering.
This is REALLY a beautiful watch guys, really really stunning with that light blue sunburst dial!
Breitling makes beautiful watches, but they have to be seen in person to convince someone.
Cheers!
Breitling still using Selitta movements in some of their models? Just asking! And pretty rough paint job on that seconds hand.
I love the colour of the dial. Such a cool watch. A great brand moving forward, which is awesome to see. I am still in love with my B50 night mission.
I am planning to study abroad and when I get a job there hopefully, I will buy this watch for my wedding, the one with Grey dial 43mm
What's the name of this watch again?
I love what Breitling is doing, no doubt they make some handsome pieces. But my ocd is kicking in with these macro shots. Is it just me? Or is that red hand just unfinished and unpainted on the bottom side?
The underside of the chronograph seconds hand is disgustingly lacking any polishing or paint. This is unacceptable for a watch of that calibre. Look at the reflections
I didn’t notice that. What bothers me most is the uneven paint on the seconds hand. It makes it look like it has rusted.
Agreed, but many expensive watches look like that (e.g. my Heuer Autavia). The issue is that there is so little clearance between the hands. The upside is that you will never see it unless you look at your watch with a loupe. It bothers me, nonetheless.
If you look at a Patek this close, you’ll see issues. Trust me, I know :-)
That blue Navitimer is the cat's meow. Nice review as usual.
Love these new videos you making on Breitling. This amazing brand is reboring and deserve more coverage.👍🏻 Thanks for sharing
I love the 1960's black dial navitimer (sorry I don't know the exact yr/model) it still had more of that geeky look to it.
I’m watching this video because I’m thinking of buying this watch and a Chopard Mille Migila 2022LE tomorrow from Mappin & Webb and I am going to be honest that second hand looks so rough it’s making me reconsider it.
Rolex “Alternative?”
Breitling kicks ass over Rolex! Love my Breitling!!🔥
Speedy is a good watch and all, but why we have to all have the same tastes in the watch hobby? Feels like that sometimes. I've always preferred the Navitimer.
That's a great video, informative and funny with great photography. Well done
The texture on the second hand looks like the red crackle on a Ferrari engine rocker cover - the detail 👌🏻
I'm looking for a pre 2010 Navitimer Montbriliant Olympus 19350 (ETA7751) Triple D8. I know Omega makes a speedmaster for half the price but I don't like date windows!??? That why I like the Breitlings...!! RE
26y/o here seriously considering on pulling the trigger on a brand new navitimer B01 chrono. its a watch i can see myself passing down, so i would rather not get it pre-owned.
hey are you from the uk?
Breitling is having a nice comeback !
@@philc1773 I'm comparing it to other pilot watches like IWCs or Hamiltons or the Sinn 903 which is a better Navitimer than the Navitimer.
@@philc1773 I could care less because I know the real story that a broke Breitling sold the design rights to Sinn. Hamilton is a great watch my daily beater is a khaki field Chrono from early to mid 2000s kicks ass. I have a Breitling Steelfish and a 1972 Transocean chronograph and I own a few Doxas etc I have nothing to prove to the guy at the bar lol
@@philc1773 that's fine but that's you... For a watch that is mainly worn by people not necessarily pilots having decent water resistance because ultimately it's a sport watch is something I prefer. Not everyone is the same.
Great looking time piece. My next watch will be a chrono, and this one is on my short list, others being Omega Speedmaster and Zenith El Primero. Hard choice.
The macro shots of the red chrono hand isn’t selling me 🙈 but I love the ice blue dial on this new model. Definitely my favorite 👌🏼
"The breitling navitimer is an epic watch, period" 😂😂😂🤣
My first love will always be my Hesalite Speedy, but I’ve found myself googling Navitimers more and more in the last year or two. They really do have the equivalent legacy and, dare I say, beauty of design. I’d probably rate Daytona behind an Apple Watch.
It’s weird, I usually like clean and simple design in most of my watches but the navitimer is just the right amount of clutter once you realize it’s function.
Is it just me or are there bits of fluff on the dial? Wish it could've been wiped off before we got those lovely macro shots, my OCD is triggered.
The mint green dial with alligator strap is just perfect
Couldn’t agree more, leather strap is definitely a better. Own the silver dial version on the brown leather strap, the golden accents definitely give a more expensive vibe there. Amazing video, thanks.
Bring back the domed timing buttons to the Chronomat.
That ice blue colour works beautifully.
Georges Kern is doing with Breitling what Jean Claude Biver did with Tag Heuer and Omega.
Drives me mad that the finish is so high in almost every respect, but every time the seconds hand sweeps over the mirror finish of the other hands, you see how badly the underside of the seconds hand is finished, not a big one to fix Brietling…!
I was going to post the same. A finishing oversight that drives me nuts!
@@jimbeckers6833 Great minds... Hardly acceptable on a £7k watch
I awkwardly like the B01 and the B25 Datora 🤓🤫🫢 Breitling does have some iconic designs.
Brilliant watch. And, great history... pure classic.
I thought Sinn bought the rights to the Navitimer? (Sinn 903)
"Portable eye exam" is the funniest thing I have ever heard about a Navitimer. 😆
Thanks Daytona for being the benchmark, lowering the bar, and making many more out there become rockstars!
Grear content, as usual! Always learning something new. Thanks!
But everyone wants a Daytona! Cry baby cry….
I mean Breitling is pretty much the watch brand to reckon with currently. Almost every new watch including their avenger revisions are great looking.
Breitling is stepping up there game!
Oh how it bugs me when the seconds hand goes past the polished markers or hands and you can see that the bottom of the seconds hand is neither polished nor painted but has paint splattered around. I think they could do better at that price range...
Love Breitlings ❤️ this navitimer is perfect 💙💙💙
That's a nice ice blue dial!
The navitimer and the Seamaster 300m are the best looking watches ever made imo. The latst interation of the navitimer is just sublime- looks way more luxury and expensive than ANY Rolex or even most of the Holy Watch Trinity.
Stunning watch. Not for me being that size but the dial colours are definable an improvement 👍
The chronograph "Daddy" is clearly the Zenith El Primero, king of kings!
Give us the case size of this latest Navi as you go through
the theater of it all! Also talk about that handsome bracelet.
Find out the Sinn 903. In 1978 Helmut Sinn bought the rights and lots of movements from that time bancrupt Breitling company. The 903 provides in many versions same iconic design, but is far ahead in tech details for even half the price of the Breitling.
The Sinn is lovely, but they totally ruined the entire point of the watch by making the slide rule unusable. I’ll still to the real thing, thanks 👍
Just a shame they don't have this colour in the 41mm version
