Apparently I missed a bunch of stuff along the roads and at mechanic stations: - I don't want to remove the little road structures because I like the aesthetic they add although we could if we got desperate - did not realize there were wheels just sitting at mechanic's stations, will have to get that right away next time
I think the vast majority of people watching this would rather see you spend your energy on building an awesome nomad vehicle, instead of worrying about some silly, nonsensical rules and complain about them every 30 seconds... TLDR drop the silly rules and just build a cool vehicle.
You could at least knab the toilets from the tiny structures for "train car separate buttons" or something, idk. I'm excited to see what you come up with
You passed a bunch of buildings on the road that you could demolish for quite a bit of wood. The mechanics stations have good wheels laying about. I think you should be able to farm anywhere you want, but have your harvesting pumps and water pumps on your land train.
My approach to farming when I did a nomad run was I could farm anywhere I hadn't farmed before. After harvesting my crops, I had to pick up the soil and move. (No planting twice at one place.)
Who's ever heard of a Nomadic travelling lifestyle where they steal your stuff.? This is satire BTW, I can't help it, I'm from the UK & fed up of Pikeys Knicking my half finished engineered projects ie Go-karts etc. (PIKEYS = Nomadic Travellers.. KNICKING = Stealing)
Just gonna put this idea here to see how people would react, and maybe I'll actually make a survival mode for it: Eurotruck simulator meets scrap mechanic. Start with a very simple car. To get resources you can do all the regular survival stuff, but you can also earn money by trading goods around the world, performing deliveries between various locations.
You should bring Kosmo along for this it was awesome when you guys did the co-op series and it would be sick if you brought him along for the nomad series as well. Or start another co-op play through because those were the best.
The best way to handle the craft bot and the inevitable loot box loop you'll need to make it work properly you can make the vehicle six wheeled with the craftbot centered over a set of fixed wheels and have the front and back wheels steering. I did a mobile only playthrough where i carried the craftbot, a 8 large chest craftloop, as well as a few extra large chests and a cookbot on a 6 wheeled vehicle and it handled exceptionally well. The same wheel arrangement also works for mining vehicles that have refining bots onboard.
You could use controllers or piston engines instead of electric engines, since the nomad lifestyle still includes taking advance of free energy sources ^^also for your road train build, you might wanna take a look into the HCT trailers in Euro Truck Simulator 2 (google images should be enough to see, what I mean), so that if you make a layon-trailer, you have a dolly in between to have a saddle plate for the next trailer. And the really infinite masses of metal are the haybots, ngl. You should go looting for the first 3 chests (2 for the craftbot, one for spare inventory) and see, where some hours of looting get you and your vehicle. Fuel spawns enough and food is also never a problem, when you´re out looting.
If you wanna make the proximity rule a bit more strict, you could build a beacon for the vehicle, set yourself a limit and check it in the booklet, as it displays how far you are from them
I still Think you should just have a mod that lets you grow Crops on your car. I would be so cool to have like a green House trailer. Also by a mod that lets you grow on your car I more mean like a new mashine (like fx the crafter) that is a farm and not like just being able to place soil on the car. You could also have like a mix where the farm mashine is really Big and heavy so its like a late game thing and you use the soil thing you have right now as the early game. This would also really give it the nomad feel where you have everything on your car instead of just getting to a a soil area and being stuck there because of crops ( I get that you Can just go other places and come back but that feels like it limits you from going anywhere and isnt really nomady because you need to return) Syr for spelling mistakes but my auto correct is on danish and its so frustrating to write
I think having a mod that allows for mobile farm plots is necessary for this series. It would add so much excitement and challenge to defending your mobile base. It would also make you live a complete nomad lifestyle. Plus to make it more interesting, you could initiate a rule that bans driving away from farm raids because that would be too easy.
Since you’re not using part mods, how about just turning up your drop rates? I feel like chopping down a million trees is going to get really boring like during your coop series with /
kan ima be honest, i dont play this game anymore but when you said you were doing a survival series i got super excited. thanks for being so consistent through the years.
when you make the train it would be cool if you make it have link caster steering because your only going to be able to steer from the first cart, idk how you could get it to work but it would make the cars drive in a train instead of just acting a trailers
I am not sure if I like idea with crops, I feel like it's add additional unnecessary level of finding this already placed plots and it's adds going back and forth to the places where plots already are. I still think that's it would be way better to place plots anyware but after using it once you need to collect them and throw out to despawn. This way you still need to scaveng for new soil bags (and there is a purpose for that) and it fits theme of nomad. I think with current idea you will just create one spot, scrap world isn't that big, you will constantly go back to that one spot which is not really nomadish
you inspired me to do a nomad survival again and pick the game back up, the new physics are fantastic and I'm having a great time, thanks for bringing this amazing game back to my attention :3
There is usually 1 small wheel around the outside of the garage. I think they are in the back on the corner. It is not much more for the large wheels so I always push to get those. I never really had any problem with lag when loading sections unless I was flying. With your farming restrictions you pretty much are stuck with the one back by the start because it is likely the only farming area near water. The smallest craft chain you can make is 6 chests... and you have to run them under the craft bot. To make them fit in a vehicle you must tip it on is side and build the vehicle around. You can then attach the refiner to the crafting chain with a resource collector next to that. I put the seat over the collectors so the refiner is basically where the passenger seat would be. I do 6 large wheels with the road suspension as the body roll is too much with the off-road suspension. In my current playthrough I took forever to find cotton. I had the crafting chain done with the refiner and collector and all 6 wheels with suspension, lights, and even a pump in the back so I could collect oil and water (and I found 2 dessert sections with oil ponds).
I think it would've been perfectly acceptable for you to build an adequate vehicle at the workshop before going full nomad You know, proper wheels and engine at least
3:06 You passed a rare monument called the Woc Statue. It is covered in hay but will be revealed when you smack it with your hammer. Wocs have increased spawn chance in that area.
I think the line of sight rule is way to restrictive. I think you should be able to freely move around a 2 or 3 chunk radius on foot and a 5 chunk radius using a small vehicle to scout or gather resources. This would make the nomad base more like a hive, you can do stuff in the area around it but must always return to relocate or perform crucial functions like crafting or refining. You would have to build special trailers for any vehicles you build and lug them along. That way there is strategy: Should you really make that scouting vehicle is it slows your base down a bit? Lighter vehicles like scout trucks, flyers, resource collector cars, and boats as well as immobile things like turrets or other farm defenses are things I think should be allowed. Building trailers to store and deploy these things would be interesting. Heavier applications like crafting and refining should be only allowed on the base.
just a tip with nomad: DONT USE ELECTRIC ENGINES FOR THE BASE, mainly because batteries are WAAY MORE difficult to come by in loot crates and are a lot more expensive to craft compared to gas where you can just go to an oil pond. also later on when you have a much bigger vehicle, i would recommend a bearing on BOTH SIDES of the wheels to reduce the flexing of the bearing, as well as full steering arms that span the whole width of the vehicle. and if you WERE to add a mod i would go with the "Fants Propulsion Stuff" mod for the bigger wheels
Before getting springs I suggest using oscillating axle (or whatever it's called in English. In Polish it's "ośka wachliwa") as it is relatively good way to keep all the wheels on the ground without actual suspension
Please add the place soil anywhere mod This is my reason it would allow to have a farming cart and it would be a fun element just to have a small automated farm running in that car all the time. If he made it too big, he would have to defend his entire train IDK. I think it could be pretty cool. Please consider this idea❤
im gonna drop this here again, but electric engines arent that good really, a level 3 gas engine on max power has a tiny bit more torque (1020Nm) than an electric engine (1000Nm). However, a level 5 electric engine will end up being faster than any level gas engine. Remember, electric engines are fixed torque & adjustable speed and gas is the opposite being fixed speed & adjustable torque so a piston engine would probably be your best choice considering batteries arent that cheap compared to gas, and by the time you have a good battery supply built up you probably already have several level 5 gas engines
I think it's okay to place things in the world, so long as they're all picked up to take with you when you move on, otherwise scrap mechanic becomes inventory management simulator. Anything you leave behind is done and gone though, you can't say oops I needed that.
So talking about the piston engine for a sec: Instead of electric engines, fit each wheel with a 2 cylinder, 90 degree offset piston engine. Effectively gets you 4 strokes per rotation, low piston usage per engine, low load per engine, easily reverseable. Then somehow use sensors to power back cars :)
I like how at 27:50 he says the hill is so steep that the vehicle wants to tip over backwards. I’m pretty sure it was the cow he was running over that made it tip backwards 🤣
I think they’re should be one(kinda two) exceptions to the building on the ground rule. Oil and chemical ponds I’m pretty sure(feel free to fact check me) that nomads would have places that a specific resource could only be found at so they have have “stations” to collect that resource
A thing I'd say you should be allowed to build is infrastructure for driving but once you built it you can't rip it out again except to upgrade the whole thing. fant mod is perfect for nomad too, it has more bots, meaning more weight, and it allows you to craft all of the bots in the craftbot, so you don't need a mechanic station at all
So with the new triangle block crafting you can run your saw or drill for free if you place a triangle over the bearing so its half covered and it will produce ridiculous amounts of speed and low torque but for free mining or even for spinning defenses on the sides of your cars
@@Hadeks_Marow I don't think they are referring to this, there is a glitch with normal wedges where it can generate lots of speed with a piston or suspension (I don't remember which)
Khan i was thinking.. what about making a micro Tank like what you did with Cosmo when you go get the warehouses? this way there's still the challenge of having a vehicle on sight, even if you use it as a portable storage. that will also increase the challenge too
The ONLY mod I would recommend to get just for your quality of life as a TH-camr, is one that increases the drop values. Just make the grind easier for kits man.
I don't know if electric engines will be that good because you need to farm glow poop for batteries and you can't really drive if you have a glow bug on you. Also you should think about putting a bot crusher on the front of your car to one shot haybots. You can even run through the ruins and lure all the haybots down into the crusher. It's really nice when you've got an efficient machine, you spot a haybot, drive up, get 10 scrap.
Hey KAN!!! Another concern your going to have with the road train is how much WEIGHT the SUSPENSION can handle. Your going to need to farm component kits with normal suspension.
Kan if you want you can cheat a little if needed. by that i mean a spring glitch sandwiched between the dual wheels on a 3rd axle you can lower as needed. they have crazy torque and good for heavy weight. if you set the controller to max 26` it wont freak out. requires big wheels tho.
