I'm proud on my country because they invent products that benefits the whole world, like Wifi, Bluetooth, water management, agriculture, CD, stock exchange.

So we made the CD, we burnt music on it. We made the microscope and the telescope.. A good basis for ASML starting in 84

Brilliant minds from all over the world working there. Such a relatively small company with so much impact. Astonishing!
Dutchie here. But as I didn't do anything in this, I don't think it would be rational to feel proud of it.
Great efforts and great human beings around the planet. Their acts inspire us all. I'm too dumb for ASML though ;)

ASML is Dutch, but ASML hires the smartest minds in the World. Also they are able to operate by outsourcing parts.
So the best mirrors come from Zeiss, Lasers come from Cymer a company they bought, etc. Some parts build in Germany, others in the US, others in Japan, the total package build in the Netherlands.
So the final product is the work of ASML, but the advancements are a global effort.

I used to work for a company located 2 km. from ASML that rented out cars, moving vans and all kinds of power tools.
Good thing i speak English because a lot of our customers came from all over the world, mostly highly educated in computer Sciences but not much common sense when it comes to physical labour, combustion engines and power tools.😁 I'm a dying breed.

I work as for a hobby on old radio equipment. The size of 1 transistor is like a finger nail. Imagine what it takes to get billions of them on a single chip.

An electrician's job there involves installing one socket per day. Most of the time is spent getting permission to enter the room.

Not only education gave the Netherlands ASML like tech (yes, Belgium helped, too), but a strong, democratic government helps, too.
We've had our share of dictatorships in the past (WWII) and while Europe still has one dictatorship - Belarus, I'm not counting Russia because that's a whole other can of worms - most of the continent lives in a free, social democracy (for the time being).

ASML apparently also has the ability to shut down their chipmakers from a distance. This could prevent things like China invading Taiwan under the thread of shutting down their chipmaking industry if they do. Very interesting.

The agreement of our Dutch government with the US also shows that the US government doesn't really believe in capitalism and fair competition. And we should not underestimate the Chinese companies, they managed to catch up to 7 nanometer technology really fast only slightly behind the new even smaller 5 nanometer tech. At some point they will catch up. Obrigado, hope you will visit our country one day.

You have to realise that ASML does not make the whole machine, they have a series of high-tech partners. For example, the optical system is made by a very well-known German company, Zeiss and the lasers by another German company, Trumpf. So China would have to build up a whole infrastructure to compete with the very, very best. It's a staggeringly difficult process to handle, the speed and accuracy are phenomenal. So difficult that Canon and Nikon gave up when they were trying to develop a similar machine. For example, the mirrors used to steer the UV light are so smooth that if they were blown up to the size of Germany, any bumps or imperfections would be just 1 millimeter high, smoother than any space telescope!

@@Durantis But the most essential eco system on earth is the Rain Forest, most of it located in Brazil, without which we couldn't sustain life as we know it on earth (unfortunately under threat from farming, urbanisation and many other dangers). The world need that forest more than computers, chips, and other high-tech stuff; in that sense Brazil is the most important country on earth!

    • @Durantis
      @Durantis หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@gerrylanter8109 Very true, but honestly, Brazil hasn't always been a friend to their rainforests. It has been improving recenly, but in the end I would prefer they would adopt Dutch style enviromental policies.
I'm not throwing shade at Brazil, money to alleviate poverty must come from somewhere, and rainforests are the obvious victim of that.
And it's not obvious that technology is an enemy to the enviroment. Not only can it be used to preserve and expand rainforests, but it can also create sources of wealth that can relieve the pressure to explot the rainforests.
