I don't think either parties had any idea of what the outcome would be and where it would go. Actually no one did. I would say thank you Rick Rubin for calling Joe Perry and Steven Tyler and getting them into the studio with Run DMC
Rick, Russell, and Jay knew what the outcome would be, that was the driving force to go through all the trouble of getting it done. People don’t go all the way out on a limb and not be sure.
I agree, at the time, the two genres were worlds apart. Both groups had different audiences. We’re not talking about the pop stars (Prince, Madonna, culture club, Michael Jackson, David Bowie etc) who crossed over.
March 9th 1986, this was an amazing event. For it was about all people being of equal posh. The " breaking down of barriers" and shows the beauty that can exist, between people of different ... ethnic backgrounds and what can be accomplished when unobstructed. It was about being friends, helping each other. And lest's just say it, it was kinda about love ... not physical, or sexual love but rather a general love, a respect for the deference's in us, as apposed to the similarities. It was about ~ "Equality" ( part #1)
And I love, how the Prodigy kinda extended what the Run-DMC did, with coming from the certain scene, to do the revolution by combining different worlds into the one big family
Is it me or did they feel/seem kind of out of place being together there with Aerosmith. I mean, i understand this was way back in the day and they didnt have a quick way to find each groups information. Run seems like those easy-calm your horses-know it all those type of guy or teenager. They dont look comfortable with each other.
The music video aptly captures just how segregated and seemingly incompatible the two genres are but then ends with showing just how wrong this perception is.

this collaboration directly resulted in bands like Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit and opened up a whole new style of music.

Rock to them was like our pop music today. They were pop music, so it’d be like 21 savage collabing with a pop singer. They didn’t know what to expect

Tyler looks like he did all the coke in NY
Tyler was the reason everyone switched to crack - he had snorted all the powerded supply...
