I remember when this video first came out. Mixing genres of music was mostly unheard of at the time so it raised a few eyebrows. When it did hit the waves, it had a whole new sound and broke a few barriers at the same time. Good job, Run DMC and Aerosmith.
*"OOOHH HEELLL NO! WE ARE NOT!!! THIS IS COUNTRY PUMPKIN, MOUNTAIN CLIMBING, HILLBILLY GIBBERISH!!!!!"* Holy shittttttttt 😂😂😂😂 What a great story teller.
I remember DMC being the laid back quiet guy of the group who was always just chilling, kinda like a man of few words. But we you see him today, on tv or TH-cam doing interviews this man speaks with so much fire and passion that you can't help but respect him.
i was a hardcore rock teen when it came out and i loved it. Maybe because i’m a musician and appreciated the boldness of combining rock n rap. It was a huge hit
This version with Run-D.M.C. and Aerosmith is the absolute best version of "Walk this Way." Watching the music video is amazing! Loved it when it came out and still love it!
Ehhh I guess that is up too who is listening and what your preference is… the one with DMC was basically the exact same as the original except they added a bass beat too it
DMC is the greatest dude, always keeping it real and being enthusiastic in interviews! I remember meeting these guys back in 1998 at a concert, it was the greatest thing ever.
@@Vaisin Sure, but not as big as THE ROLLING STONES! The Stones started out pretty much when The Beatles did (early 60s) and had hits all through the 60s, 70s, and part of the 80s. Also, I remember reading an article about the movie, "This is Spinal Tap," and Aerosmith was pretty sure that Rob Reiner based Spinal Tap on THEM (Spinal Tap even sits in front of a record store vainly trying to promote albums with mirrored covers to no one at all; have you ever seen the Aerosmith's "Done With Mirrors" album/CD?), so compared to Zeppelin, the Stones, etc., yeah, I can see how even people not in the music industry could think of Aerosmith as derivative.
I remember hearing this here in Australia for the first time and playing it for my friends. It was all over the radio and within weeks every second person was wearing the iconic RUN DMC t shirt in black. Such a legendary song and 2 legendary bands.
This version with DMC is one of my favourite songs ever, and I'm coming from the rock-end of the music spectrum. Those DMC boys totally made this, and the official video was fantastic.
@OFB I mean it's an honest question. It would only be funny if the joke made any sense, and right now I have zero clue what the hell the joke even means?
DMC very down to earth. Always gives good interviews and always up for talking about legendary Run Dmc! I wish JMJ and Adam Yauch (beastie boys) were still alive 🙁
I need to say this to DMC.. since i've heard this Song for the first time as a young Teenager i love it.. and i still got this on my actual Playlist with my nearly 50 Years of living ;) definetly one of my all time Favorites ;)
Run DMC / Aerosmith collaboration helped shape 90's alternative rock. Listen to Sneaker Pimps, Garbage, Stone Temple Pilots etc, they all use hip hop beats. Even industrial rock / industrial dance samples hip hop.
part of the soundtrack of my childhood. will always have love for this track, Run-DMC and Aerosmith, together and separately. Love their catalogs. Shout outs to Russell and Rick Rubin too. Aerosmith concerts, Run DMC shows, anything Rick Rubin touches.......i gotta check out. Rick Rubin got involved with a Santana project not too long ago and i immediately got invested. And i always revert my brain back to my childhood. and tracks like this. Feel good joints. and one for the ages.
Im 50. I grew up with Aero Smith and Run Dmc. Both are my favorites. Hearing him referencing Aero Smith as Country Hillbilly, i laughed so hard. I really hope Run DMC does like this song.
I could watch this all day. Absolute legend. "Oh HELL NO! This is country bumpkin mountain-climbin' hillbilly jibberish!" "Oh shit, Rick went and got The Rolling Stones." Blahahahaha!

Awesome to hear that story. I’m 19 and my dad showed me the Run-DMC version of the song a few years back. Never liked the original after that. Nobody does it better than these guys
@M 40 same. I have been a fan of Aerosmith since the early days and hate for people to pretend that Run DMC saved their careers. I normally don't comment I just read an shake my head while laughing.
It was one of the greatest songs of my youth... As an old guy who loves classic rock, I always preferred the Run DMC version. The guitar part and Steve's vocals were much more dynamic. The rap part was cool, too.
I remember when that song came out. It was a huge hit. Huge video on MTV. Everybody loved that collaboration.
And it effectively rebooted Aerosmith's career.

"bumpkin". Means a rube. :)
DAMN!!..years later. Learn something new everyday. Great interview
I'm a rocker and because of this song...Run DMC was my first concert. 1988.
I am a Aerosmith fan but I have to admit that the Aerosmith+RUN-DMC version is a fun blast like the FAT-BOYS+Beach Boys Wipe Out it's just a fun song.
Wipe out was just great fun. Too bad it's mostly forgotten.....
Word! My fav Fat Boys record was Can You Feel It!
Ow yeah!!
That Fat Boys Wipe Out thing was bonkers because Wipe Out was not even a Beach Boys song.

The video with walls breaking was pure genius and poetic

I actually really love when rap meets rock
Rage, Beastie Boyz, the Offspring, the Chili Peppers, all amazing
I love any kind of musical collision like this. Fusion is how new musical forms come into being.
same, one of the my favs is a song called "this means war" by busta rhymes and ozzy. with Iron Man Riff
even eminems ding for the moment if yall know this
When rap meets metal you get nu metal
As good as the combination of groups was, the video was even better, and it resurrected Aerosmith's career!
So glad I watched this interview. DMC is so positive....love it.
It's a blessing that D got his voice back. One of the iconic voices and flows in the Culture...

I mean in his story where he saw Steven and Joe, he was like, 'Oh Shit' sounds like he was a fan or at least knew of them.
That song was my first intro to rap music (in video form) and Aerosmith at the same time. I was 8 ... This song was everything -- still is!
What fantastic energy and attitude this guy has. Inspirational.
R.I.P Jam Master Jay. He knew it would blow the world away and it did.

This interviewer got his money's worth, that's for sure. What a story! DMC truly is a passionate individual and his music will live forever.
Dope azz interview!! DMC is a very dope humble Legend!! ✊🏽
Great interview! I'll admit, back in those days, I wasn't one to listen to hip-hop, and this was a great song to help me appreciate it.
I love this kind of stuff. That was such a cool story. Respect.

Of course Rick Rubin was behind it. Bloody genius
It's kinda awesome to see rappers also like rock music. Brought us great music. Thank you Rick Rubin
Good music is good music. It's colorblind.
Always thought that was THE coolest single of the 80s
I'm totally up for more rappers to appear on loudwire every once in a while. It's a nice change from the norm.
I still turn the volume up on that song version! It's timeless!
