The Ford GT is powered by a 3.5L Twin Turbocharged V6 with 647HP while the McLaren 720S runs a 4.0L Twin Turbocharged V8 making a very conservative 710HP as per McLaren.
While both use a 7speed dual clutch transmission with launch control and use carbon tubs, the McLaren comes in a couple hundred pounds lighter on the scales resulting in a much better power to weight ratio.

@@raionshishi8290 From an investment standpoint, the GT is a better choice given its rarity. If I bought it, I would never drive it because I would look at it as an investment. But for the thrill and the speed, I would buy the McClaren 720S. It is faster and still holds its value, but not nearly as well as the GT.
Man that 720s is so freaking hard to beat. There is not that many stock cars outhere who can't even come close to it. Amazing car 👍

For the cost of that Ford, it is disappointing to see it lose by that much.
The luster of that car was lost VERY quickly. ZR1, 720 s, gt2rs, c8, performance, all came out cheaper and similar or better performance. Its a good investment car though.

Ford GT feels like the bare minimum of speed for this time period, the v6 is cool but not fitting a V8 to me is still very disappointing. For that price and performance market it really should have a F/I V8 and around 800hp. It feels outdated already.
Everything about the 720s seems better but the design still makes it hard to tell. The GT is the best looking supercar on the market today imo

A V8 in the GT wouldn't make a different. Mclaren built a monster with 720s..the Aventador is a big ol V12 that kills everything except the 720s😂😂
@@romeomashile8367 A forged Coyote twin turbo V8 in the GT would be hauling balls out and definitely more reliable. That V6 twin puting out all of that horsepower won't last long.. It's a nice car but not worth the money.. It's a Ford.. The 720s is a twin V8 and a small V8 at that and look what it can do. Aventador is a different class all together. The new ZR1 with a cam and ported stock blower pulls from the Aventador no problem for way less money.
The mcclaren has more power and weighs less....anyone with half a brain knew what was going to happen here.... The 3.5L is for the Ford to compete in the 24 hrs of Le Mans racing, you can't have giant V8s or power adders on anything larger than a 3.5 for that. And if you htink a twin turbo coyote would be more reliable than a purpose built 3.5, you're an idiot as well @immortal, These motors are tanks and reliability has nothing to do with the cubic inches and power. Yea. I think turns are a must have for the GT formula to come together. That 720 is beast. I hope they benchmark the class yet again with it's successor. Coming from the MP4-12c to the 720s makes it readily apparent someone sat down and asked themselves what does it take to be the "is it as fast as the.." supercar. Because the Ford GT is so rare it's a limited edition only 1500 of them made.
Price for performance, the obvious doesn't need pointed out. That being said, it was originally 500 and then increased to 1000. Now they have increased it by 350 more. So not as rare as originally planned or thought.
@@racingthemachine3364 performance isn't everything. If you wanted just outright performance you can build a car that would kill both of these for around 30 or 40k, or just buy a mustang and twin turbo it etc. Allot of people are very concerned about exclusivity, being unique and different.
When you have that kind of money you're no longer just trying to be faster than people. That car is more of an investment something that will be worth a lot more in the future and maintain its value. There's some guys out there with cars from the 1990s pushing 1500 horsepower that could say the same exact thing about the McLaren like why would anyone spend that much money when my car built in my garage is faster for a fraction of the price. At the end of the day it's about what makes you happy.

What Ford should have done is build a brand new V8 that's smaller in displacement than the old one, around 3.8 to 4.2 liters, with twin turbo, and not a 6 cylinder. For the price and the hype, the new GT just feels too underpowered, getting completely dominated by cars way below its price bracket. It’s perfect in every other regard though, real shame about the engine.

What mic are you using now that close to the exhaust? I looked at your old guide and the olympus does work good with my goprohero7 black. It gets distorted as the exhaust gets louder.

Its crazy how all of this thought was put into the Ford gt engineering to make it light (v6,lots of carbon fiber, lighter wheels and even lightweight fasteners) but the 720 s is lighter with a twin turbo v8. The Ford gt is a great car but they need a fresh perspective. It could be the baddest car on the road with a lot more work.

Supercars are not all about drag racing or 0 - 60 times. There are other reasons why people buy other supercars too, even if they are many times more expensive than a 720S, and even if they are not as fast as the 720S.

I love what you do man so please don’t take my comments the wrong way. The GT isn’t designed to be king of the drag strip. I really noticed when you went round the ring with the Apex dude how much you appreciated what the 720 could do on the track (in the bends) Surely there’s all that race car pedigree lying dormant in the GT that you need to experience?? Everyone says that the GT is one of the only cars that is truly a race car adapted to the road which is why it’s not the best on the road and only really comes into its own on a track.

I'm sure he knows it's not king of the drag strip and nobody is debating that here. It's fun to see it try and know how it compares nonetheless. I've seen the GT in a pov camera through the Californai canyons for 20 minutes and it drives like it's on rails.
Did you see what a revelation the 720 was to Brook around the ring? I think it would be cool to see the same with the GT, is my point. And also of course Brook knows all this - he probably knows more than us combined - he’s got proper game!! :)

Ford should have but a twin turbo V8 in the Ford GT. Could have probally got it to 760hp plus like the gt500.
And it would also mean the whole rear aero and chassis would have to be redone (worse)
