      Thank you!!! Yeah, this is what I actually do professionally since about 2003. 😊 It makes it easier to do youtube content when I am doing the same stuff I am doing at work. 😊

    You exported only one frame to alembic thats why there was no progress bar and it was only 2MB. At the end you need to select Valid Frame Range to Save The Frame Range and specify what frames you want to save/export as an alembic. You had Render Current Frame selected so it processed only one frame. For the Format of alembic I would recommend Ogawa instead of HDF5. It's smaller and calculates multiple times faster.

    I wish u spoke more about resuming the cache after crashing.. some files r better for resuming the cache but the r huge size. So do u prefer any method to resume the cache?

    Thanks for the tut! Is it necessary to separately cache out the Compressed and Surface cache? I found (I think..) that by setting them both to WRITE and then playing through my timeline would write both out to .bgeos simultaneously, you just need to make sure you've set them to different paths because by default both File Cache nodes are set to the same output path. Is it ok to do it this way?

      You don't need to export both if you don't plan on using them both. I mostly only create the cache for the high resolution version if I need it. The low poly is nice for visualizing though.

    And where is the waterfall? I hate when they put an image of the tutorial and it ends up showing you with a sphere

    20 minute wasted watching how you struggle with a sim way too big for the purpose of this video.

      Dude if it was a smaller sim theres no point in caching it, this is exactly what I think people are looking for, how to speed up these bigger sims

    • @xr1140
      @xr1140 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@parkercoleman8078 "dude" the OP is presenting ways of caching not ways of improving big sims, pay attention! It's irellevant what you think, read the title and don't try to interpret to match your narative.

    Are you sure this is the proper way of cashing?

    • @CGINerd
      @CGINerd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. This is how I have been doing for a while now. There are other ways to do it as well if you are interested in exporting a cache file into another software. This method is mostly used to keep everything working within Houdini.

      Sorry to hear that. Thank you for the feedback. Most of the tutorials are created for my students in the courses I teach at a university as an enhancement to the course so most of them have been using Houdini for a while and a video like this one is more about the concept rather than a tutorial on buttonology.
      I will look keep this feedback in the future. Thank you again.
