Coach Greg 100% correct. From studies and real life experience. Went from a tested 4.9% to 12% in just a couple offseason months in an intentional surplus but too many +500-800 cal days. Was not worth the pain and possible muscle loss leaning back to 5%. Esp natty and not eating Mike's version of "duck eggs"! Great video Greg, needed to be said.

Truly tear your muscle fibers down-not just kind of-but truly break them down to where you are already very sore leaving the gym. That’s how you force those extra cals to be used. But nobody does this.
@@charliescott9160 You do not want to "truly tear muscle fibers down," that's not good. You want them torn enough to recover in two or three days so you can hit the muscle again. The amount of calories your muscle will need to recover from an extremely hard workout versus a hard workout is going to be fairly minor I would imagine anyway. It's just going to take longer. Your body can only repair itself so quickly. Unless of course you're on PEDs. Which we know Mike would never do.

A woman only needs to eat 350 calories extra for a baby to grow and develop. That should be plenty to grow muscle. Where people mess up is they don't adjust the calories as they get heavier then complain they aren't putting on weight. If you need 2000 cals to maintain, then you need 2350 if you go with the 350 number. But as you get heavier, you might need 2150 cals to maintain weight. Then you will need 2500 cals. So for many people, it is just easier to eat 1000 cals extra instead of constantly doing simple math.
1000 calories more will still add fat, so as long as they don’t mind that. The excess calories aren’t all going to muscle as much we’d love them to. The way Greg likes to do is to stay leaner while still growing muscle. Then the cut is much easier as there’s less fat and you’re overall healthier year round.

To be fair, exceeding maintance calories by closer to 1000/day, that's gonna add some excess fat storage. But as a natural, I'd rather have some excess "cushion" for those days where I burn more than expected or can't eat. The body will pull from fat storage before seeking to breakdown muscle for that energy. I see it both ways, there are many factors involved that could sway one to approach it one way or the other.

Thousand calorie surplus LOL. For four months I 18 at 750 cal deficit with .75 g of protein per pound to see if I could gain muscle. During this 16 weeks I managed to gain 1.25 kg of lean mass while reducing fat mass by 8.7%. And for those out there it was a ketogenic diet. I did this for myself to see the results firsthand without other Studies. What I’m trying to get at is have the Patience to test and trial yourself

To be fair, exceeding maintance calories by closer to 1000/day, that's gonna add some excess fat storage. But as a natural, I'd rather have some excess "cushion" for those days where I burn more than expected or can't eat. The body will pull from fat storage before seeking to breakdown muscle for that energy. I see it both ways, there are many factors involved that could sway one to approach it one way or the other.

The Guy is a narcissist, He has and does acting and uses these skills in his interviews to give credit to his born gifted physique through hard work and dedication without the use of PEDs and yet defies age with the ability to build muscle at 55. There's a big difference as we can see when he was young claiming I'm the same weight as I was in highschool and that difference is night & day of what he looks like now with less body fat being replaced with solid muscle benching 535 while taking credit as a natty and being even a bit bigger They in highschool and looked up to by Natural young bodybuilders trying to emulate him and can't figure out why they can't build muscle leaving them frustrated or wanting to give up because they simply don't have the genetics or maybe they are training incorrectly and decided to join his Titan Training program paying out big money in hopes to look like Mike O'hearn! What does Mike tell them? You kids have to understand it took me years of dedication and hard work to get where I'm at today! I started training at 9! I started bodybuilding at 11 but not having to be a flat out lier, I have used PEDs! Started TRT at 53 and still look like I did in my 30s with no facial treatments or use of StemCells! I go on a cycle I also don't have a puffy face or break out with acne or have what they call the steroid look and Yes! there are peds that don't show these signs! Simply put! Unlike Mike O'hearn for me at 55 to build muscle at my age I have to use PEDs to do it! To maintain most of my size and strength I have to stay on TRT with nothing less than 200mg weekly! I also have to get my blood tested every 3 months and eat well but, I could lie and just claim natty and since it's not my career I don't have any need to lie! I tell young kids the truth and ugly side as well. You lie long enough and try to give credit to a lie and then slam down others that just might be a bit smarter than you is only a matter of time it starts to back fire on you and sooner or later you end up looking like a fool. Many think I don't like Mike, that is not true! I really believe he has done everything smart at least with his physique! His ability to lift heavy and maintain good bone and tendon strength at his age deserves credit but my only beef with him is sending natural bodybuilders down a path that will leave them frustrated and believing they have bad genetics and wondering why that can't get bigger and wasting money on bs supplements with the false belief it takes years to see the results from the BS he blabbers on about! Cut the BS Mike you are only fooling those that don't know any better and young kids looking up to you just starting out and will all learn at some point that they were lie to!

For four months I 18 at 750 cal deficit with .75 g of protein per pound to see if I could gain muscle. During this 16 weeks I managed to gain 1.25 kg of lean mass while reducing fat mass by 8.7%. And for those out there it was a ketogenic diet. I did this for myself to see the results firsthand without other Studies. What I’m trying to get at is have the Patience to test and trial yourself
