    Thanks for making the only video showing the drivers side! Every other video I found was for the passenger side

      I was trying to remove d/s cv axle and I've tried to pry it off but having no luck. I can get it to move back and forth but I can't get it to come off. Do y'all think a heal bar will work if I go purchase one? Or should I quit being a pussy and get aggressive with it? I just didn't want to brake the aluminum cover. The whole reason is I'm replacing shift solenoids.

      I mean I had to man handle it a little. I showed both sides in seperate videos. In at least one of them I showed what I used and how I did it. I used a cheap short thin mini crow bar from harbor freight. In one of the videos I also mentioned how you can move the snap ring around a little so it doesn't catch as much and gives less resistance. That may only be for re-install though, can't remember. Good luck friend.

    thks for posting I have a (95 gran prix 3100 sfi ) I've decieded to change the
    axle seals so both axles will have to come out. and some one said it's not good
    re use axles that have sat around without use so I guess I might order 2 axles
    no idea what they cost each? I wondered If I had to buy the slide hammer they show
    in the book to get the axles loose. now I know I can us one of those flat iron nail things.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics

      I order from Detroit Axle on ebay, or Rock Auto. Between $100-$150 for the pair depending on what you go with. Looks like DA only offers refurbished for that year for some reason, so I'd lean towards rock auto- plus there are a lot more options on there...

  • @MichaelKirbyMusic86

    Definitely a helpful video, ty!
    I slammed a deep pothole last week in my '00 GTP and instantly developed a hardcore slamming noise that occurs in what sounds to be every rotation of the tire (sound & feel builds up or slows down by whatever speed I'm going) & car wobbles side to side/up & down & wobbles the steering wheel side to side with it. Noticed drivers side CV boot is torn so I'm guessing it's my CV that got damaged. Ordered a new one from rock auto & waiting on it to arrive.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics

      Bent rim or busted belts in the tire would be my first guess...

    seen it on another video if you tie rope on the cv joint end by the transmission you yank on the rope and they pop out thats what i did on mine it was really easy that way no tools needed just the rope popped right out, like pulling a tooth out lol.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a bad idea, thanks for the tip. There was something I was working on before, can't remember if it was this or a wheel bearing or something else, that I had considered putting a rope or chain on and yanking it off with the truck lol.

      Oh man, probably the whole contol arm, tie rods, sway bar links, and possibly the struts. You can get the whole control arm/tie rods/swaybar link set on ebay for a decent price, company called Detroit Axle, less than $100. I buy their products often. Matter of fact, the axle in the video is from them.

    Thanks for sharing. I am about to get started, waiting for the parts to arrive. Thought i would do some pre research, glad i did. Is there a way to take the snap ring off? Also i was planning on replacing the control arm while i was down there. I thought i would have to remove the wheel bearing to do this. But it looks like you didn't have too. Just slide it out inwards?
    Thanks

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure why you would want to take the snap ring off??? The new axle should come with a new snap ring. There is a gap though, where, with the proper tool, you can expand it and remove it if you wish. Again, not sure why you would want to do this, as the snap ring is what holds the axle in place inside the transmission. And yes, I left the hub/bearing in place. Just turn the whole thing and pull it out and towards the front of the car, and the axle will slide out by pushing inward and towards the rear of the car. You just gotta get the geometry right lol, and it will come out with the hub/bearing still attatched. Hope this helps, thanks for watching. I have a video for the other side as well if need be.

    Thank you for the video. Pretty sure that cv axel is too big for your car considering the old stretched out axel is slightly longer even while it’s fully compressed. Ran into that with my Taurus. Caused a headache until I figured it out

    Brother I’ve pulled and pried on this drivers side for hours. Still no luck. Gonna try the crows foot tomorrow. My gosh it’s a pain. Is there anything locking it in the transmission?

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just that little snap ring. Try turning it an inch at a time our pushing up or pulling down as you pry to help get the snap ring past the notch that it binds on. Basically gravity lets it hang on the shaft but it needs to be centralized and floatin perfecrly around the shaft to clear the lip on the way out.

    I'm in the middle of this job. I slid the axle onto the output shaft fine and it locked in place. But I noticed that even with the axle locked in there is a little in and out play. Like if i grab the cup (with the yellow writing on it in your video) and wiggle it in and out from the transmission it has a little movement and makes a little knocking noise. Is this normal? Do I need to source a new c clip? I didn't really check the old axle if it did this or not.

    • @gingerdude4133
      @gingerdude4133 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't mean the plunge joint on the CV shaft, I know the inner joint on the CV axle itself moves by design like that. I mean where the entire axle slides onto the transmission splines.

      I'm sorry man. For some reason this comment was put under spam by youtube. I check the folder every once in a while and approve comments that their system mistakenly labels as spam. If I'm not too late to help, yes, some play is normal, like a milimeter or 2.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh ok, I see what you're saying now, so don't worry about posting anything. Step down on the control arm and it should drop down with the spindle so it will line up. It may be easier to detach that spindle and attatch it to the strut first, then push the control arm all the way down and slide the bolts for the spindle back over the control arm and throught the holes. My other video of the other side may have given a little more insight into this, as that was the main video and this was just tips for this particular side since it was slightly different. I have a Grand Prix playlist on the channel, so you can find the other video on there quickly. Let me know if you get it or if you still need help.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok yeah, I just watched both of my videos. In *this* video I said to watch the other video if you needed more guidance, that this one was just a quick one to show what was different about this side of the car. In the other "main" axle video, I covered everything, including what you are struggling with. Really the other video was the "how to" video. I installed the axle in this video afterwards and realized that this side was a little different and might confuse some people, so this was basically an "update" video just for the differences on this side. So if you watch the other video, that should have all the answers for you.
