I heard on a podcast that ochibas name means Flower, and that the leafless branch is a barb towards her power being fleeting or to be of no matter.

Not flower, fallen leaves. What Mariko says to Ochiba about flowers is actually from the death poem of Gracia Hosokawa, the Catholic convert samurai that the character of Mariko is based on.

Yabushige is my favourite too, lol. Not saying I don't like others, they're good too, but Yabushige provides the comedy.

Well done.. appreciate iate in depth analysis and review. I like the Toranaga master plan theory. It is very fascinating story and your points on Ishido getting g played by Ochiba and then the villain, and not taking responsibility is well placed. Can wo.en in this culture even take responsibility?

They never explained why Mariko was not at her home raising their son, as the wife of a powerful samurai would be doing. Why was she hanging around Toranaga's place to begin with when she had no title or standing other than being Buntaro's wife? There are other Japanese that know Portuguese, Toranaga wouldn't bother his top warrior's wife with such duty.

I'm very disappointed that this is a one season show. There's too much story to satisfactorily wrap it up in the one episode that's left.
