The Incendiary Grenades arsenal upgrade gives grens more aoe and also gives Soldados 0.5 aoe, it also increases aoe for fire throwers and giant grenadiers. A must have upgrade for Soldados once they have to fight large masses of enemies.
The card you mentioned for extra ships was 'Admirality', and Age 1 shipment pretty much every civ had acces to. It's still in DE but the effect was changed.
Oh boy i remember the higher ship limit card (admirality), and back then monitors long shot had 100 range, with some techs i think 2 could deal 5k dmg to buildings and for example one shot factories. Tho they costed 800w 200g, but were very fun to use

What I have learnt over the years is that you always build your base in the corner of the map when playing against waterplay, especially if there are two ponds. Although I can understand if Piroshikids expected no such intense resistance. GG
It is a shame that computer AI don't know how to play water. It would be interesting getting practice against a legitimate water stall like this. This was toxic as hell.

Yesterday I played against Italy on this very same map and man, that match went up to 36 mins or so, I got all their buidlings but they went on water, hid like a rat and started taking water control on both sides with their Galeasses and their multishot attack, it was near impossible to raid the coastal TC they had but eventually managed to defeat them
