I have this bag myself and enjoy it very much for winter EDC. I added some Seam Grip (outdoor clothing adhesive/seam sealer) in little dots to the underside of my shoulder straps for more grip on my shoulders when I'm wearing a nylon jacket. My only other gripe is that I wish it was made in the USA. Great video as always!!!
Full disclosure, I commented asking if the hydration sleeve would fit a 15" laptop before you got to that point. Most people don't go into this level of detail, so great job!
@MrHALOCOUST Thanks. I suppose its possible that if you put it down in wet or super sandy stuff that a little big of stuff might get in there. I haven't tried it myself though.
You could certainly use it for school depending on how much stuff you need to carry as its pretty big. If you don't need to carry as much the RUSH 12 might work better.
I haven't had a camelback. I had a Maxped backpack (vulture II maybe?) that I didn't get to a review of before I sold. I thought it was too stiff and hard to use. Great quality and durable, but I didn't care for it. These 5.11 bags seem to work better for me and I like their organization. I only had the experience with the 1 Maxped backpack though so my sample size is admittedly low.
Thank you very much, great review, especially since you showed actual things we'd use, being put into the slots..... can I ask, if I want to put my hydration bag in the main compartment, instead of in the back pocket, can the strap to hold the bag in place be put through the hole for the hose and hold the hydration bag in place in the main compartment? (hope that makes sense!!! LOL) Cheers, Don (Perth W.Australia)
Yea, I've seen some comments similar to that and there does seem to be some confusion over which is which. So I have the newer one then right? I think the differences people have suggested are in the waist strap? I forget.
Great review mate.I really love this bag but i got a question. holes at the bottom is gonna make trouble for me if i put the pack on somewhere wet ,muddy or sand.?if its big bummer for me.
The GR bags are 2 and 3 times the price of this so I hope they are significantly better. I don't put this through super torture, mostly using it for travel, and its held up with no problems. I also like the extra organization that all of the extra external pockets offers when traveling.
I like the 5.11 designs. I'm just trying to decide whether to get the Rush 24 or 72 bag as a bug out bag. What do you think? Is the Rush 72 too big/bulky or does it work well. I'm leaning towards the 72 as it gives more capacity to add more and it looks like it can compress down compactly when not fully loaded. What do you think?? Thanks.
I guess it depends on your needs for the bag. I don't need a water bottle pouch and haven't found the holes to be a problem. I can see where others would have different needs though.
I can fit my 15" Mac whilst it is in its Incase sleeve in the main compartment. If I take it out of the sleeve it will fit in the bladder pocket. Negative points are it will make your back sweat lots as the space between bag and back is not good and if you only have a thin shirt on the bag can be uncomfortable on the shoulders. I have pimped the bag by providing webbing straps with a military grade Nexus two way quick release buckle and its a great improvement as the waist strap keep the bag where it should be. 5.11 should provide this rom new though as you can't simply put a belt through the existing buckles as it interferes with the shoulder straps where fixed at the bottom of the bag. It also takes a 38oz Nalgene wide top water bottle in the side pockets.
On trans-Pacific flights you can't always get an overhead bin...and the idea of sitting in a plane bound for Narita for 14-hours does not excite. But, I have a simple rule of packing...if it doesn't fit in an overhead or beneath the seat...it doesn't go with. Thanks again for the info.
Actually I just sold a Maxped bag because I wasn't so thrilled with it. :-) Bought the way cheaper LAPG Operator bag to use as a BOB instead. I use my RUSH bags for travel - 24 for big trips and 12 for small ones.
I have this backpack as my daily carry. I got it about 6 months ago to allow me to ride my motorcycle to work/school and still be able to carry my laptop. My Dell Latitude 6520 does not fit in the back(water bladder), but does fit very well in the big front pocket. My only issue with the backpack is it will not set up with out falling forward. This would not be an issue other than when I set it in my chair to load it up, it falls out of the chair if I do not hold it up.
I can't imagine it not fitting into the overhead on a 14h flight on the larger planes. I've fit mine in the overhead (although maybe not fully stuffed) on a small commuter (1 set on the left and 2 seats on the right) sized plane. Just flew 10h back from Munich.
I think I've had it for a year or so. I've heard other people mention the belt strap thing and I'm not sure of the answer. You could call 5.11 and see what they say. They've been pretty helpful when I've called them.
Can anyone tell me how to apply a waist belt to this pack? I know there are loops for a waist belt but I have no idea which one could be used with the 5.11/24.
@snareman95 So, what did 5.11 say? I'm thinking of getting this pack, and I think I'd like the one with the buckle for the waist strap and the 5.11 logo in front which can be used for more attachments because the other model doesn't allow that function
I have the RUSH 72. It's much bigger than the RUSH 24, but the two biggest differences features wise, is the RUSH 72 has a waist belt, and an over spill compartment for a helmet, or a coat. The organization is great, and overall I think it's comfortable, but the build quality and craftsmanship is defiantly not up there with Specops Brand Brand, Camelbak or even Maxpedition.
Have you compared this pack to a similar model/size from Maxpedition?? Just curious to see what you thought in terms of quality for what your paying as well as which may be better for edc or better for some other specific purpose. Thanks Brother.
what year model is that? I recently bought one and there are no buckles for a waist strap. Also the model displayed on the website does not have that buckle. The shoulder strap buckle looks different too.
Hey hows it going whats you opinion on the Rush 72 im debating on 24 or 72 im still not sure on which one to get, by the way great review on this bag, thanks
do you know if the hydration area will fit a 100oz camelbak bladder? it's 17.5 inches tall. just want to make sure before i buy the bladder considering the inside if the pack is 18in tall
I forgot to mention to whom it may concern, it's made in Vietnam, while Specops Brand is made in USA, and Camelbak is assembled in USA with foreign and domestic components.
When did you buy this or which model is it i saw other reviews and their Rush 24 doesn't have waist buckle and molly on the bottom. How do i get this model? Thank you very much.
It really depends on how much you're going to be carrying. If its just a laptop and a book or 2 the 12 would probably be fine, but if you need to carry lots of stuff I guess the 24 might be better.
I don't have any experience with Camelbak so I can't comment there. Compared to the 1 Maxped backpack I had I like this bag better because its "softer". I hated the stiffness of the maxped bag, although maybe it would have held up better?
Hi mate. Quick question.. I travel a lot, and only take carry on luggage with me. Never take suitcases and I travel extremely light. My question is could I live out of this bag for 1-2 weeks abroad?? Thanks.
Sorry for the late reply. I guess it depends on how minimalist of a packer you are and if you can wash stuff. Otherwise you might consider the RUSH72 maybe?
I'm in the same situation you're in, and I'm going for the 5.11 RUSH Delivery. I don't know what it is that you're looking for but you might as well check it out!
Yea, I could do without the drainage holes, but they don't really bother me I guess. I wouldn't use a water bottle pouch. I guess everyone has their own needs and wants.
I don't really have any experience with the 72 so I can't say for sure. It really just depends on how much space you need. The 24 is pretty big, but if you need a ton of space the 72 might be better for you.
Have you ever had to gate-check it because they thought it was too big? I am torn between the RUSH 12 and 24. Even traveling overseas (Japan, Korea), I don't like carrying more than one bag. Some airlines have actually started weighing carry-ons. Amazing, eh?
@brutus4201 Not officially. I do have a Maxpedition bag that I use as my BOB. The nylon on it is MUCH stiffer and I really don't care for it. Quality on both is great, but I think I prefer the 5.11. It also has better organization. The Maxpedition is a high quality bag, but given the choice having the experience with it I wouldn't have bought it but would gladly rebuy the 5.11.
I'm currently in Italy with mine. I've traveled a bunch with it and no one has ever given it a second glance when they come around looking at bags. If I'm going on a short trip I'll bring the 12 and long trips I bring the 24. People wouldn't try and put as much in their carry ons if the airlines didn't charge so much for checked bags. Kinda shot themselves in the foot there.
@miccalor Hmm... That's odd. Not sure what to make of that. I bought this one directly from 5.11 within the past month or two. I'd give them a call and see what they say
You could disconnect them and put them in there, but its not going to be super neat looking. As in, they weren't made to do it so it will work, but not ideal.
7 years later and this is still one of the best reviews of the 5.11 Rush 24!
Thanks! And it was just a quick little Christmas morning vid. :-)
2021 is still the best! But i prefer v1.0 than v2.0
Love these videos. Great to actually see an item before purchase.
Great review, you've convinced me that this will suit my needs for my first Bug Out Bag. Thanks.
Fantastic review. Definately buying this one for a Christmas gift to myself!
I have this bag myself and enjoy it very much for winter EDC. Thanks for the post. Good to know that even the larger ones will fit.
I have RUSH 12 about one year and, really, this bag rock!!!!
Great video. Thanks.
I have ordered the same as yours. Looking forward to using it for EDC and airline travel.
Thanks! Enjoy the bag!
Great review as always from you Snareman. Thanks a lot.
YOu're welcome. Thanks!!
Great video, I'm buying one based on your review!
Great review as allways dude.
Thanks! Glad you found them useful!
Thank you, Love the fast reply!
YOu're welcome! Enjoy the bag and thanks for watching!
Great video, I got one as a travel bag as well
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
Perfect review . Thanks
You're welcome!
Thanks! Its a great bag!
I know I have said it before, thanks for the great review. It is appreciated.
Thanks. Its always nice to hear it. :-)
Wow, that is a score!
Thanks! Its a great bag. Hope you like it!
Full disclosure, I commented asking if the hydration sleeve would fit a 15" laptop before you got to that point. Most people don't go into this level of detail, so great job!
Thanks Michael! I try and cover all the details I'd want to see in a review. it's one of the frustrations that got me frustrated to start making them.
@MrHALOCOUST Thanks. I suppose its possible that if you put it down in wet or super sandy stuff that a little big of stuff might get in there. I haven't tried it myself though.
love the 24 i use it for everything camping hiking work .............
Its a pretty good bag. I use this for long trips and the Rush12 for shorter trips.
You could certainly use it for school depending on how much stuff you need to carry as its pretty big. If you don't need to carry as much the RUSH 12 might work better.
I'm 17 and I'm a prepper looking for a great bug out bag for me and my group I started and we all chose this bag thanks to your vid.. thanks
Thanks!

@thetiggr78 Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
No problem, its all good.
Yea, I've seen some comments similar to that and there does seem to be some confusion over which is which. So I have the newer one then right? I think the differences people have suggested are in the waist strap? I forget.
Thanks. Yea, I finally figured out that they are removable. Forget if someone pointed it out on this or the Rush12 review. I need to annotate the vid.
Great review mate.I really love this bag but i got a question. holes at the bottom is gonna make trouble for me if i put the pack on somewhere wet ,muddy or sand.?if its big bummer for me.

Another great review. Quick question; what was the case you used at the end of the video you put the mac book in?
+beko23 Thanks! Its the 5.11 MPC case. th-cam.com/video/nnckFEHigUg/w-d-xo.html
I can fit my 15" Mac whilst it is in its Incase sleeve in the main compartment. If I take it out of the sleeve it will fit in the bladder pocket. Thanks! And thanks for the sub!
Thanks! Its a great bag. My watch is a Rolex Submariner. Another bad habit of mine. :-)
I think I've had it for a year or so. I've heard other people mention the belt strap thing and I'm not sure of the answer. You could call 5.11 and see what they say. They've been pretty helpful when I've called them.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Can anyone tell me how to apply a waist belt to this pack? I know there are loops for a waist belt but I have no idea which one could be used with the 5.11/24.
You mean how much stuff do I carry in it or how much does the bag weigh? I'm honestly not sure of either.
Just picked up a Rush 72 at Dunham's sports for $44.99 on liquidation. WIIIIIIINNNN!
Its the 5.11 MPC Case (Modular Platform Case) which is about 38 x 31cm
@snareman95 So, what did 5.11 say? I'm thinking of getting this pack, and I think I'd like the one with the buckle for the waist strap and the 5.11 logo in front which can be used for more attachments because the other model doesn't allow that function
Yea, I'd think that for a BOB I'd want a 3 day bag. The 24 just doesn't hold enough unless your stuff is super compact.
I have the RUSH 72. It's much bigger than the RUSH 24, but the two biggest differences features wise, is the RUSH 72 has a waist belt, and an over spill compartment for a helmet, or a coat. @miccalor Well, I guess it must have been late December that I bought it based on my upload date.
Hey hows it going whats you opinion on the Rush 72 im debating on 24 or 72 im still not sure on which one to get, by the way great review on this bag, thanks
Will it fit underseat or do they make you gate check it?
I usually put it overhead but it would probably fit under as well. Never had to check it.
do you know if the hydration area will fit a 100oz camelbak bladder? it's 17.5 inches tall. just want to make sure before i buy the bladder considering the inside if the pack is 18in tall
I haven't tried putting any hydration stuff in it so I'm not really sure.
I forgot to mention to whom it may concern, it's made in Vietnam, while Specops Brand is made in USA, and Camelbak is assembled in USA with foreign and domestic components.
What size MacBook is that? Debating on the 12 or the 24.
I think I'd get the 24 if I was going to be traveling for 2 months. I use the 12 for simple US trips, but use the 24 when I'm going overseas.
When did you buy this or which model is it i saw other reviews and their Rush 24 doesn't have waist buckle and molly on the bottom. How do i get this model?
Thank you very much.
Hi, what are you using on the shoulder straps to keeo the extra webbig out of the way?
+Konran Li Here you go: th-cam.com/video/CX0m2essS9g/w-d-xo.html
Did you get yours from 511 directly... like their website??
Is that good for trekking, i am planning to buy this one for my next 4-days trekking.
It really depends on how much you're going to be carrying. If its just a laptop and a book or 2 the 12 would probably be fine, but if you need to carry lots of stuff I guess the 24 might be better.

I don't know what it is that you're looking for but you might as well check it out!
Hey where did you get this "updated" rush 24?
Can you do a video on how to attach a 5.11 Rush Moab 10 on the 5.11 Rush 24 backpack?
Yea, I could do without the drainage holes, but they don't really bother me I guess. I wouldn't use a water bottle pouch. I guess everyone has their own needs and wants.
what would be best backpack for college
How come your bag on the front it has 3 rows where you can put a patch, but on some other rush 24's it only has 2 rows...why is that?
How many kg does it have the backpack? Thank you.
I don't remember exactly it was so long ago. I think I had one of their coupons and might have.
I don't really have any experience with the 72 so I can't say for sure. It really just depends on how much space you need. The 24 is pretty big, but if you need a ton of space the 72 might be better for you.
Could you tell me the price ranges of the rush 12, 24, and 72 please
I haven't used the 72 though.

I could, but I'm not sure what I did with all of the clips.
@miccalor Hmm... That's odd. Not sure what to make of that. I bought this one directly from 5.11 within the past month or two. I'd give them a call and see what they say
well done
+mozzberg Thanks!
According to the 5.11 website its imported.
I think I might have bought it directly from 5.11 but its been over a year now.
YOu mean another RUSH24 because you hate this one or a different bag than this because you love this one so much?
You could disconnect them and put them in there, but its not going to be super neat looking. As in, they weren't made to do it so it will work, but not ideal.
Sadly, I don't know of anything that 5.11 makes that is made in the USA. Good idea on the grip tape!
