The Rush 12 pack is a great small day pack for either military, LEO or civilian. It even makes a great school backpack making you the tacticoolist kid in the class! :-)
The sternum strap on my 5.11 Rush12 is removable by undoing the C clips. They use C clips instead of closed D clips so the sternum strap can be adjusted for height. In contrast, all my maxpedition packs have sliding sternum straps that can't be removed.
Fantastic video/review! I’ve watched close to a dozen videos on the Rush 12 and most of them show you what they carry instead of actually showing and reviewing the actual bag. Really nice quality look at the Rush 12, thank you 🙂
Thanks for the review my friend. Watched a couple of others on this, and various other packs for my gadget/laptop bag. Yours is the one that sold me on it. Thanks again!
Thanks. I guess it depends on how much you want to or usually carry. The 24 is pretty big, especially if you are just going to carry a textbook, notebook and/or laptop. I would think the 12 would likely be large enough this amount of stuff without being overkill on the extra space.
I've got to say, your videos are all well lit and with good audio. Plus, I seem to take away a little something extra with each one. On this video, it was the almost-cursory comment you made about locking the zipper pulls together. I hadn't seen that done previously and appreciate your taking the moment to cover that. Well done vid!
I've been looking for a good compact hiking/camping/survival pack, and this fits the bill. I really like the molle on the shoulder straps so I can put an angled flashlight and walkie talkie pouch and receiver. Thanks, I now know to get this over the condor compact assault pack. Good video.
I am wearing Rush12 everyday to work, photography missions and trips about 2 years. My common load is about 5-15 kilos and i must say one thing - this bag is unbreakable.
Great review, well done! I actually got that exact backpack for Christmas! Can't wait to start using it as my new EDC bag for work commute and air travel.
Thank you very much for taking the time to test this. I, however, got the rush 24 becae store I bought from is closing down and I got the rush 24 for a cheaper price than a normally-priced rush 12: A real bargin! But thanks again!
Nice vid! Best way to go as far EDC "the backpack". I still fall back on my Rush 72. In the last 4 months I did the following gear thinking I could find that efficient organization, to handle all my needs. Maxpedition Sitka, 5.11 Bail Out, 5.11 Messenger Bag and the MOAB 6. All were sold or returned. .......
I carried camepaks that were tiny for 12 hour work (I worked in a program that was basically preservation of national forests) And it in Colorado last year and one week we were literally sledging away part of mountain trails for a week for 8 hours a day, and all we had (The crew members carried medical supplies and water up the mountain) were literally 1 gallon of water (Which we filled at least 3 times) A sandwich, and things we never used. And the packs were I'm not kidding, 3 times smaller.
Going car to car, drinking to much and having to spend the night, and the weekend get away. The backpacks are the way to go. What I do now is just cater the Rush 72 with optional pouches on how light or heavy I feel I need to carry. I got sick of the "oh &^@! its in my other bag" scenario. Anyway....I wish for you and your family a safe and happy new year ! Your YT bud- Jim
@ObiStroh Thanks for the tip. Someone pointed this out in the RUSH24 I think so I finally figured it out. Never would have had a clue if it wasn't for helpful viewers like you.
Thanks Sean! I just try to cover all of the features of whatever I'm reviewing. I just try to make the review with the info I'd want if I was watching it.
The chest straps are removable for adjustment to the next level of molle strap on the shoulder harness. The little plastic clip has a slit on the back under the molle strap. They come right off.
Looks like it would fit. I can fit a ruler across the inside and the ruler is about 12.5" wide. So 11.4 should fit no problem and its more than tall enough.
You can actually remove the sternum strap, it's actually made so that you can put it on another one of the MOLLE loops or completely remove it for adjustment.
@kaiden62 Yea, its hard to find made in the US stuff. I think it ends up costing too much (look at the price of Kitanica, HDS lights, or SoTech/Specopstech bags) and then people don't want to buy them. I agree with your thoughts on the SoTech bags. I have a Mission Go Bag that I use every day as my work bag. I've got a review of it here somewhere. :-) I spent extra to get the US made version of it. My friend has the overseas version of the same bag and the quality is clearly different.
I take mine on all of my trips. Its actually sitting up against my laptop as I type right now. I'd take a pic, but well... guess I can't post it here. For longer trips I use the 24. Good points.
i boiught this bag and sofar its never failed or defected as an artest it caryed almost 25 spray cans for a mural project lesser and non tactical brand bags fall apart and cost to much for nuthing when i trek the mountins it holds what i need for a few hrs or the day up in the mountins i fit over 5 pairs of pants and shirts :) overall this bag is werth it and an over stalk error sale i got mine for 80$ cant go wrong with a great bag for a great deal
ive put mine through a hike to mt wilson and it got super soaked from a snowstorm and rain storm. both happening within 4 hrs of each other and it was completely wet including the contents
Camelpak8 8 hours work* So since we carried so little, there was enough a very small medical kit, trauma kit, water, food, and some essential gear. And I mean we where doing some stuff that would kill us (As we were working on a "King kong" style trail. so rocks of 10-40 lbs where falling right next to our feet, we had to throw rocks over, I mean lethal stuff (We obviously yelled rock) But I mean if you know how to back well and do no more than walking, you can get far with just this.
if it helps any, ive walked for like 30 mins under continuous heavy torrential rain with the moab 10 on my back ( i believe its the same material). laptop and documents were all dry. tolerable moisture levels inside the bag, in the sense that there were no condensation marks on the laptop , or smudged out ink on the documents. im sure many other factors would be at play here, but i wouldn't go swimming with it lol
I don't want to say for sure if it would fit. I own the Rush24 but borrowed my friend's Rush12 for this vid or I'd try and test it for you. My guess is that it would probably fit since it fits in the MOAB10 (see my vid where I show that) although I don't know how tight it would be in a sleeve of some sort.
Excellent review with very helpful information. By the way, would it be possible to mount a knife holster (say the SOG Seal Team Elite knife) on the front strap? I think the knife holster is Molle compatible, but not sure how to mount it.It's easier to hike with the knife mounted in the front for me as opposed to a belt mounted side holster. Thanks for the great video!
Think a 17'' samsung chronos will fit in there? These are the dimensions: 15.9" (W) x 10.3" (D) x 0.98" (H) Weird how it says 17'' but I did confirm the measurements. Thanks!
I'm actually considering this backpack for everyday use. Mostly I go back and forth between the university, the grocery store and home, so no outdoor-things. But I do, however, look for a durable bag that will protect whatever I put in it and should be waterproof. My question: Would this bag fit a 12,6"x11.40"x3,35" folder? The specs say it is only 11" wide, but would it stretch sideways that extra 0.5"? I wouldn't really like the huge Rush 24 for my purposes, but it must fit a folder
in the place of the water bladder do you think that i would be able to fit my 13" macbook pro including neoprene case? im thinking of using it as a university bag and need the interior space for my books and things
The sternum strap on my 5.11 Rush12 is removable by undoing the C clips. They use C clips instead of closed D clips so the sternum strap can be adjusted for height. In contrast, all my maxpedition packs have sliding sternum straps that can't be removed.
Another fantastic video! Thanks for the thorough overview.
i like the speed with which you go through all the features. often these kind of reviews get tedious. subbed.
Fantastic video/review! I’ve watched close to a dozen videos on the Rush 12 and most of them show you what they carry instead of actually showing and reviewing the actual bag.
Really nice quality look at the Rush 12, thank you 🙂
Thanks Jesse! Glad you liked it. Check out some of my other backpack reviews. I have a bunch of them.
It’s meant for 12 hours but It was able to carry three days worth of gear for my trip to Sacramento.
Thanks for the review my friend. Watched a couple of others on this, and various other packs for my gadget/laptop bag.
Yours is the one that sold me on it.
Thanks again!

Best review. Everyone else were reviewing this as an army backpack. I needed an office EDC review. This was perfect. Thank you soo much!
FINALLY a nice clear review on this bag. Thank you!
I've got to say, your videos are all well lit and with good audio. Plus, I seem to take away a little something extra with each one. Great review, well done! I actually got that exact backpack for Christmas! Can't wait to start using it as my new EDC bag for work commute and air travel.
I use this pack for edc and trekking
Now i'm trying it for hiking and it still handles great
Best pack ever had and seen
It's a great super tough bag, although maybe slightly heavy compared to some of the non-tactical ones.
Thank you very much for taking the time to test this. I, however, got the rush 24 becae store I bought from is closing down and I got the rush 24 for a cheaper price than a normally-priced rush 12: A real bargin!

The best review I've watched on TH-cam about this backpack. Keep up the good work.
+HeyitsCalifornia Thanks!
Yes. 15" MBP will fit on the small pocket on the inside, but not in the water bladder area.
Thank you for mentioning about the zipper lock. Never knew that.
Seems like a really good backpack, thanks for such a comprehensive review. I'm looking at getting one for airsoft and traveling.
Sorry for the delay. I think it would fit no problem. 17" is the measurement diagonally across the screen btw.
Going car to car, drinking to much and having to spend the night, and the weekend get away. The backpacks are the way to go. What I do now is just cater the Rush 72 with optional pouches on how light or heavy I feel I need to carry. I got sick of the "oh &^@! its in my other bag" scenario.

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the review! :-) Its a great bag. I've used it a bunch.

Great video, best i've seen on this bag so far! Thanks for the upload!
You're welcome. Thanks!
this is the best bag i’ve ever had
The chest straps are removable for adjustment to the next level of molle strap on the shoulder harness. The little plastic clip has a slit on the back under the molle strap. They come right off.
Thanks. Yea, I figured that out after the video
@CheepSteal Thanks for the tip! I didn't realize you could get them off. All better now. :-)
Nice vid and u always got some great watches on your wrist!!!!
The sternum strap is removable, the clips that attach it to the Molle webbing are shaped like C's.
I'd hope it would be better for over 3x the price. However, I do like the separate accessible pockets on the outside of this bag.
Thanks nice vid I was trying to decide between the rush 24 and 12 now I know I'll go with the 12 thanks to your review.
As I understand it, PALS is the webbing and MOLLE is the equipment that attaches via the PALS webbing.
i think this is going to be a classic :)
good review
The 24 is quite a big larger. If the cooking set and your clothes are both small I think you'd be ok with this one.
Looks like it would fit. I can fit a ruler across the inside and the ruler is about 12.5" wide. So 11.4 should fit no problem and its more than tall enough.
Thanks! Glad you liked the vid. It is indeed a great bag!
Thanks for the confirmation. I agree! Its a great bag!
I agree. Thanks for the comment!
I don't remember for sure now. Its been awhile since I got it. i'd check with 5.11 to be sure.
Thanks! Its a great bag.
No problem. Glad you got a deal!
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Yea, I eventually figured that out. Thanks for the comment though.
I agree - its been a super tough bag!
Glad you found it useful!
You can actually remove the sternum strap, it's actually made so that you can put it on another one of the MOLLE loops or completely remove it for adjustment.
Thanks. Yea, I eventually figured that out.

I'm pretty sure it would fit that, but I can check when I get home.
I don't know for sure. I haven't tried putting a bladder in there.
Yea, every so often I get lucky and get it all in in one take! :-) Its rare, but it happens. :-)
@kaiden62 Most of their stuff is made overseas somewhere.
@snareman95 welcome. it was the apeshit traffic during a downpour that made me walk to get to a meeting faster. just glad the bag held.
OMG this backpack is soooo sweet.
I take mine on all of my trips. Its actually sitting up against my laptop as I type right now. I'd take a pic, but well... guess I can't post it here. For longer trips I use the 24. Good points.
@frips1000 Thanks. Yea, watches are another bad habit of mine. :-)
Great review! Tnx, This is just what i wanted to know before buying the pack.
YOu're welcome!
@kingkongratis Thanks for the first hand account. I haven't done anything quite that extreme with it, but its good to know they will perform well!
thanx dude for your time
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Excellent review. You should write a guide on how to conduct a pack review.
Great review. Thank you so much!
+beko23 You're welcome! Thanks for watching! :-)

My friend has that bag now, but I bet a 13" would probably fit. My 15" will snugly fit in the 24.
@2secondman Might even be able to fit a Barbie, Ken and her swanky car.
if it helps any, ive walked for like 30 mins under continuous heavy torrential rain with the moab 10 on my back ( i believe its the same material). laptop and documents were all dry. tolerable moisture levels inside the bag, in the sense that there were no condensation marks on the laptop , or smudged out ink on the documents. im sure many other factors would be at play here, but i wouldn't go swimming with it lol
Lol. Thanks. :-) Most people seem to use the terms interchangeably
@Cannonbo I try and make the vids useful and relatively concise if I can. :-)
I have no idea. I've had it for quite awhile now.
I don't want to say for sure if it would fit. I own the Rush24 but borrowed my friend's Rush12 for this vid or I'd try and test it for you. That'd have been a good idea.
Sure, I don't see why you couldn't mount one up there if it wasn't too big.
very nice review, thank u!
Im going to buy this for the field
I'm not sure. I know my 15" MBP doesn't fit though.
@goltgo Thanks for the kind words and for watching. I try get some useful info in in the vids. :-)
Thanks!
Thanks! :-)

You can move the shoulder straps

@twohi2play Directly from 5.11
Not sure honestly as i don't have one to try it with.
You're welcome!
nice video. wow one take? might want to include "Overview , or Review" in the headline. get more hits.
That would be great! I'd really appreciate it, man!
(Can't get the "reply"-button to work for me now....)
in the place of the water bladder do you think that i would be able to fit my 13" macbook pro including neoprene case? im thinking of using it as a university bag and need the interior space for my books and things
great review, wished he tried it on
Is there a way to seal the drainage holes, in case I have to put it down in water or wet conditions?
Is the rush 5:11 backpack shoulder detachable where you can carry your bag by one shoulder.
I don't know the best. I always just google it and pick the cheapest reputable place.
Forgot to ask: Does this bag ship with the waste-strap like the rush 24?
Where would be a good place to buy this, other than their official website?
SO HARDCORE.
Not unless you come up with your own idea for it.
