We did the 4-day east expedition with GO Galapagos. They are the only local supplier. We spent 3 days in Quito, before flying to the Galapagos islands. Although it was an off-peak time for us to visit, July worked out great. It has cooler weather, and wet suits are provided. Many on our cruise did not wear wet suits, and they were still comfortable in the water.
They have Local Expertise. GO Galapagos / Klein Tours emphasizes their local knowledge and connections, which enhance the travel experience by providing insights that foreign operators may lack. They are committed to supporting the local economy by employing local guides and staff.
Offers some of the best scuba diving in the world
Over 3,000 marine species, significant number of sharks (hammerheads, Galápagos sharks, and whale sharks), rays, sea turtles, marine iguana. This diversity provides divers with the chance to encounter a wide variety of marine life in a single trip.
Most recent Lava flow was a few months ago, from La Cumbre volcano on Fernandina Island - one of the western most islands.
Darwin's Finches: There are 14 species of finches that have evolved from a common ancestor. Each species has a uniquely adapted beak shape suited to its specific diet and habitat
Vampire Finch: A unique species of Darwin's finch that has adapted to drink the blood of larger birds using its sharp, pointy beak
Marine iguanas are the only known species of iguana that can swim and dive underwater, capable of diving up to 30 feet deep to forage for algae
The islands host a carnivorous centipede called Scolopendra Galapagoensis, which can grow up to 12 inches long and feeds on various animals. While aggressive, it's not deadly to humans.
Galapagos giant tortoises can live extraordinarily long lives, with some reaching over 150 years in the wild. The oldest known tortoise in captivity lived to 170 years.
The archipelago is home to flightless cormorants, the only cormorants in the world that have lost their ability to fly due to evolution.
Frigate birds found in the Galapagos can spend weeks continuously in flight, as they are unable to take off from water.
Every part of the Poison Apple tree is highly toxic - locally known as known as manzanillo, árbol de la muerte (tree of death). Favorite food to Tortoises
The islands sit above the Galapagos hotspot, where the Earth's crust is being melted from below by a mantle plume, creating volcanic land.
Coffee has been grown in the Galapagos since 1869, and today Galapagos coffee is an organic product exported worldwide.
The term "Galápago" refers to an old Castilian word meaning "riding saddle," describing the shape of the giant tortoise's shell.
