Don't have to pack as much as you'd think. I found myself reusing sweaters and hoodies. Since it's a cool weather cruise you don't get sweaty or Sandy.
I took a 3 in 1 jacket that had a removable fleece with a waterproof jacket in my Sept trip to Alaska last year. It was perfect :). I took water resistant gloves, it rained quite a bit on our trip, was happy to have them. The other must was smart wool brand hiking socks. I’m a Floridian, I’m a wimp about the cold and I was nice and toasty. Agree with the belt bag and. Light backpack. I did not feel the needed a poncho, I took waterproof pants, that and my rain jacket were perfect. We did a lot of hiking. Merrill hiking boots were great. Going back again this year, just fell in love with Alaska❤️
After cruising to Alaska at the end of September here’s what I would do differently. I would add an additional layer for warmth underneath the outer raincoat. I was cold with just a long sleeved shirt or light sweater under the raincoat. It rained cats and dogs in Juneau and waterproof boots, pants and a ball cap along with umbrella would be ideal. There is absolutely no way to feasibly bring enough clothing to fit into a carry on along with heavy outerwear so I would bring a checked bag in addition to a carry on for all the heavy winter clothing. I’m from sunny Southern California so I’m pretty sure I’m made of sugar 😂 but this is what I’ve learned after our cruise.
Hi Ilana! I just finished my Holland America Alaska cruise and I’d like to thank you for all the great tips I’ve got from many of your videos! Definitely you made our trip much smoother and nicer! At first, my husband couldn’t understand why I was buying “weird items”, like magnetic hooks, special luggage tags, binoculars, rain cover, door decorations, or making reservations weeks before etc. But along the trip he said: “You are really well prepared for this cruise!” - thanks to you, Ilana! All the best! Hugs 🤗
My husband and I are sailing on Celebrity Solstice out of Vancouver on July 28th. We are driving up from Salt Lake City two weeks before to spend time with my kids, grandkids and siblings while staying at an Airbnb in Abbotsford (it's about an hour east of Vancouver). We check out of our Airbnb on Saturday, the 27th and check in to the Best Western Plus Vancouver Airport, where we can leave our vehicle stored for $14/day for the duration of the cruise. We got a single queen room for $159/night (Cdn), and can easily take the Canada Line train from the airport right down the the Waterfront Terminal. The downtown Hotels (Pan Pacific, etc) are EXTREMELY expensive and we're already going to be pampered onboard so there's no need to spend $400/night to $500/night Cdn. at a hotel just because it's close. Also, there is a Major International Fireworks display as well as a football (soccer) game between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Ryan Reynolds owned British football team, so hotels are going to be hard to come by if you haven't already booked. I booked ours three months ago!
We're going Aug 2nd!!!! Your video makes me so excited. I've never been to Alaska or Canada. We will be more than ready to beat the Texas heat come August! 🥵😃
Our first cruise was in 2010 on Princess going to Alaska. My sister forgot to bring a jacket. We bought jackets in Ketchikan that we still wear. Went again in 2019 on HAL, more jackets. Going back next year on Princess, will get more jackets. We live in Colorado so we do use them through out the year.
We go in July for the land/cruise tour. on Princess. Going with my brother, his wife, two sisters and my husband Your videos have been invaluable! thank you so much!
We are going then also. I made the mistake of doing cruise first. Everyone tells me it was a mistake not doing cruise last. I’m so nervous about the transfers also. Afraid I’m going to leave my luggage somewhere.
An FYI....Just cruised to Alaska this past May and it was in the low 40's temp and rained EVERY day. Only days it didn't rain was in Glacier Bay and Victoria. Thanks for the videos! 🙂
We're cruising northbound on HAL in late August from Vancouver to Skagway and then doing the overland through the gold country and back down from Fairbanks to Denali and ending in Anchorage. We're then laying over a day in Anchorage before taking a Princess cruise southbound from Whittier to Vancouver. This will be our 3rd consecutive year doing land/sea cruises in Alaska and they never get old. Your tips are quite good.
Hi Ilana, I'm going on my first cruise and your videos have provided me with such a wealth of great information! I've watched MANY, many cruising videos and in my opinion no one comes close to your channel for content and quality. I come from a family of cruise enthusiasts who have been trying to get my husband and me on a cruise for years and we finally decided to go for it. We are heading to Alaska on a Celebrity cruise and have booked a suite, this video is exactly the information I need in knowing what to pack. 😊 Thank you!
I will be cruising to Alaska in August 2024! This was the most informative Alaskan cruise packing video I've seen. I will share it with everyone in my travel group. Thanks for sharing!
I’m going to Alaska in a few weeks. It’s my first cruise and I’m looking forward to it. I have been watching your videos for months and I have learned so much so I feel that I am totally prepared for the trip. Other subscribers have also left some wonderful ideas. Thank you so much Ilana……I really appreciate your channel.
I just got back from Norwegian Encore 7 day (10/6-10/13) and I’m shocked at how little I actually wore of what I packed. I could’ve fit it all into a carry on and 1 backpack . The key is not packing variety, but packing the essentials.
Thanks! 25 days until our second Alaska cruise! We went last year and cant wait to go again and explore Fairbanks and Denali, along with the glaciers this time!
We got back from Alaska yesterday (Holland America eurodam) for our second trip to Alaska. It was cold but something my husband and I found us that it really depends on how cold you get. My husband.. Freezes so he need a jeans, a sweatshirt and his jacket. For me, not so cold, a jacket was sufficient. Even during our cold rainy day in Sitka. After two trips, our thermals never got worn in June or August. Rain Jacket is required and I always say buy one big enough to go over your regular jacket unless that jacket is waterproof. Early June was very wet. Each time we went, I never had enough shorts. The actual ship and our cabin was warm and I always find I need at least a few pair of shorts.
Thank you for such a great video as well as the other cruise tip videos you have made. From luggage, to packing cubes, to wall hooks, to waterproof clothing, to a multi port electrical outlet, to a passport wallet, to plastic cell phone cases, and more, our cruise was made so much easier because of those great tips. We have cruised previously, but this video as well as your others, provided us with much better insight on how to prepare. This resulted in an Alaskan land tour/cruise that was absolutely fabulous and problem free. Thank you!
I wrap clear shipping tape around our luggage handles when we cruise out of our home port in NY, which is all we do, since my husband doesn't like to fly.
You are AMAZING!! I’m headed on my first Alaskan cruise in August. Your videos are full of such great tips. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!! I definitely need your planner!!
Planning our second cruise now. Your videos helped a great deal for the first one, and now we're going to Alaska next summer. Thanks so much for really awesome content. Instead of magnetic hooks, I found heavy duty magnetic clips that were awesome. Wish I could remember where I got them last year!
Well, thanks for all your videos on cruising it helped plan for our Alaska cruise and we took just what was needed. Loved the Alaska cruise but very decided that cruising is not for us. Best wishes.
We are going for our first time to Alaska towards the end of July. It should be pretty warm, just stating that because I live in Northern Michigan and I’m so used to cool weather . However, since we are cruising in July, I do believe it may rain a little bit more so I might have to get a poncho and rainproof bag. Great video as always!! 💕
We packed everything for our BC/Alaska cruise in early August and ended up re-wearing shorts everyday lol. Every day was like 23-27 and sunny! Made the afternoon in Skagway pool time it was so nice! Just never know I guess.
Great reminders! We are going to Iceland, which looks like it will live up to its name! The only thing I don't plan on taking are waterproof shoes, and hoping the socks will get me by should it be necessary.
Hi Ilana, great video as always. FYI, i found a Patagonia rain coat for me that a review site said it was the only one they tested that was truly waterproof. And they have mens sizes up to 3X.
We sail in 21 days!!! EEEEK! I'm so excited! I *think* I have everything but the crossbody bag on my packing list. I have been trying to decide if it's worth getting one...I think between you and Sherri Griffiths I'm convinced. 😉
I'm going on my first Alaskan cruise on 3 July! Coming from Queensland, Australia, I'm struggling to work out what to wear but I don't think I'll be bringing my Australian summer clothing! Thank you for all your videos, they are helping me a lot.
Heading to Norway and Iceland in September. I’m from Texas so I’m totally freaked out about what to pack for the rainy and cold weather. These ideas are helpful as I assume the weather will be similar as Alaska. Thank you for sharing. 💕
Hi Liana, I love your videos, and learn something new every time I watch. One comment if you don’t mind, is to give us the dates of your cruise. A group of us are going to Alaska on the Eurodam in late July. I just watched your video regarding Alaska cruise essentials where you told us what clothing to bring, but I’m not sure of when you were there and what weather to prepare for. What month did you last visit Alaska. What type of temperatures/ weather should we expect? Thank you for your time, and insight
I'm going in mid-August, but I expect that it can still be very cool on the water. This is my second time on an Alaska cruise. This is a shorter cruise for me. The lanyard and power cube are good ideas that I hadn't thought of before.
Thanks for this Ileana. I signed up for Holland America’s standby program and just found out at 4pm today that I am sailing tomorrow. Yikes, I have been to Alaska several times before, but it was great to watch this video as a refresher on what to pack.
I sure hope you live close to the port. We live in San Diego and HAL sails from here. I should check into that. It sounds a bit nerve racking! Bon Voyage!
We’re headed to Alaska in May 2025. So I found your video informative! Thank you. What ship were yiu on and how dressy was it for dinners. I’ve heard Alaska cruises seem to be more casual, which if fine with me. A few pairs of slacks and light weight sweaters for dinner are my thoughts. A fleece jacket, a light weight puffer jacket and raincoat were all I was planning on for jackets. Thought they would cover everything. Also, I tried, the fleece, with the puffer, then added a raincoat over all. They fit. Shoes are my main concern bc I live in the South where I rarely wear closed shoes. I bought a pair of white mountains Cliff boots, but am wondering if just sneakers would be fine. I’ll take an old pair and spray them with waterproof spray. So excited to see Alaska.
I'm going on my very first cruise this month!! We'll be on the Princess cruise line for a 7 day Alaskan cruise departing from Vancouver. Thanks for the packing tips.
I am heading on an Alaskan cruise tomorrow on NCL... so far I am not a fan of the customer service with NCL... but hopeful this trip will be fun. I am however a big fan of you Ilana and Life Well Cruised.
Just came back from my Alaska cruise. I took several of your suggested items for the cabin. Never used the magnets/hooks or the shower caddy but was so glad to have travel hangers and meds (since I was getting over a severe cold when we boarded). ❤
Doing a Princess Cruise - round trip from Vancouver next month. Loved your videos, they were very helpful when doing research from packing to embarkation, to what to do in Vancouver, etc. Thanks for your help.
We are actually going next month 🎉super excited, last year we went on Wonder of the Seas to the Bahamas and we loved it, and we heard so much about the Alaskan one so we are going this year 🥳 Never been in Canada 🇨🇦 or Alaska, good time to beat Arizona’s 🏜️ heat 🥵.
Hi my husband and I are going on our first cruise end of August! :) To Alaska ,up the inside passage. Thank You for all your info, it has been most helpful.
Your channel is so amazing and informative! Thank you! My family and I are going on our Alaska cruise in 10 days. We are so excited and your videos have helped us prepare properly for our trip ahead! Keep these videos coming. You're the best!
We are going on a Princess Alaska cruise out of Seattle, leaving Saturday and BOY I wish I had found you a long time ago! I don't have time now to get some of the things you recommend.....so next cruise! My husband and I got married on our first and only cruise 23 years ago! It was Royal Caribbean and was fabulous!
Love this video! I live in Miami and sailing to Alaska for 10-days from Seattle on Friday. I returned home a coule of days ago, I never check luggage as I pack efficiently -- global business travel is my jam and I carry those packing habits over to vacations via land or sea. I wear Barbie size clothing and pack skinny. I never momma bear pack. I let adults make smart decisions and I have no say or input on what they pack, nor do I pack for them. So I say skip the bulky clothing; go for cashmere/merino wool thermals and socks and wear your waterproof / resistance boots (my feet were never cold or wet walking on glaciers). I agree, pack sneakers as I work out every morning on top walking, hiking, dog musing, canoeing, fishing and animal watching. Because I am a spa junkie bring OKA-B sandals spa shoes are a must. My clothes I can wear from sunset to sunrise and always best dress. No Amazon fashons for me. There are too may other venues to shop for stylish clothing and see I do not want to see 10 other clones in my outfit on any given day. Thanks for sharing your experience and recommendations; some of your other video featuring 25-50 packing essentials are opposite my packing style. in the end this cruise was amazing and I over packed which I was trying to avoid coming from Miami with only a carry-on. I did not pack or need any sweaters or layers. I say quality over quantity. gave all of my purchased winter/cold weather gear purchsed (jacket, bib overal snow pants, gloves, earmuffs, hats and etc.) to one of vocalist-enterainers who wore my size as I would have no need for this stuff in Miami. I typically pack clothing I have not intentions on bring home so my return trip is lighter. I began tracking the weather begining two weeks b4 and it was mild 50-60's with light percipation on the Alaskan Islands -- Seattle was 85F and upon on our two days prior and 2 days after so we enjoyed a wonderul stay.
We're going to Alaska at the end of July. That'll be my 3rd time there. Love it so much. Thanks, Ilana, for this refresher on packing since it's definitely a different type of cruise. But, swimwear is still a must. Maybe chilly at times but that makes the hot tubs all the more enjoyable. 😃
I have a Norwegian Cruise scheduled for 4/23-5/2/2025. This is my second cruise. First was Carnival going to Bahamas. I watched your videos for Carnival and now watching your Alaska video. Both are very helpful and good tips. Thanks
My first cruise will be Aug 3! We’ve been to Alaska and my parents have cruises it several times, but not me! I’m so excited I’ve already started to pack! Your videos are amazing! TY
Did Alaska last July and was so happy to have both waterproof shoes and pants! I also brought disposable towels to dry things off like benches etc. They are pressed into little disks and pop open when they hit water. So very compact.
Love watching your videos and learn so much. Going on our first cruise to Alaska on Royal Princess in 14 days and have already staryed laying out my clothes and things to bring. Trying Not to overpaack. 😊
Two weeks and counting. Thanks for reminding me to bring thin gloves. PS. Have you done a video on laundry on longer cruises? This October, I'm on a three week cruise. I'm thinking sink washing to save money. Just saw NCL charges $35 a bag. PSS. I'm bringing some Downey Wrinkle Releaser pump spray (travel size)...................................I see you mentioned this. I received luggage tags in the mail, and I also printed some from my check in download. I'm going to have them just about everywhere.
We were on a Carnival Cruise recently and we wanted to get some laundry done and we spoke to our cabin steward and he gave us a "promotional deal" and we paid $30 for 2 bags, However our Alaskan cruise will be a 10 day voyage and we will have luggage weight restrictions due to having to fly in. Always try to wheel and deal on your cruise and sometimes you can get a better price!
I bring a clothesline with attached clips that can hang onto the magnetic hooks, plus "Earth Breeze" dissolvable laundry sheets. I haven't used liquid, pods, or powder detergent for three years.
Heading to AK in early September. I just purchased a whole lot of things on Amazon before viewing your video and I’m happy to say I wasn’t far off. I did get a 3-in-1 Columbia ski jacket and also Columbia waterproof hiking shoes. We are not hiking, but I really wanted something for wet weather that wasn’t a boot and wasn’t a sneaker. I hate having wet feet and I also have some balance issues so I wanted these specifically for Mendenhall glacier day.
Going on our first Cruise to Alaska in September! It's been a dream of mine and we're finally going for our 10th anniversary 🎉 this was so helpful, thank you! ❤️
Thanks a bunch for this video, we are going on Alaska cruise on July 2025. I love watching your videos, so helpful! More power to you from New Hampshire w/ love🌹

Hi, we're going un October! Can you share the 3in1 jacket link or brand you got? Thank you.
After cruising to Alaska at the end of September here’s what I would do differently.
I would add an additional layer for warmth underneath the outer raincoat. I was cold with just a long sleeved shirt or light sweater under the raincoat.

Great info. I'll be sailing on the NCL Encore in May, my first Alaska cruise. Thank You
From North Dakota, and I love 3-in-1 ski jackets. The shell and liner can be separated to give you different options depending on the weather.

Heading to Norway and Iceland in September. I’m from Texas so I’m totally freaked out about what to pack for the rainy and cold weather. These ideas are helpful as I assume the weather will be similar as Alaska. Thank you for sharing. 💕
What cruise ship line is the best cruise ship for Alaska?
Cruising Alaska for the first time in September, appreciate all your helpful tips, Ilana!
That’s great! Such an amazing cruise destination 👏
I’m also going to Alaska for the first time in September. So excited
Glad my videos have been helpful. I think I mentioned in this one that I was there in May :)
Will be cruising to Alaska in August. Thanks for the advice, it was the most helpful of all I have viewed
Omg that’s so exciting!!!!! Enjoy
I sure hope you live close to the port. We live in San Diego and HAL sails from here. I should check into that. It sounds a bit nerve racking! Bon Voyage!
I live on Vancouver Island, so just have to hop on the ferry to Vancouver.
We are going on our first Alaska in May 2025.
My guide dog and I are cruising to Alaska in May 2025 thanks for the help
We are going September 1 2024 super excited
Doing a Princess Cruise - round trip from Vancouver next month. Loved your videos, they were very helpful when doing research from packing to embarkation, to what to do in Vancouver, etc. Thanks for your help.
Wow so many helpful information! We will be going to Alaska Cruise July 2025 so this is very informative. Thank you for sharing!
What a difference!! lol enjoy every minute 🛳️🎉
Hi my husband and I are going on our first cruise end of August! :) To Alaska ,up the inside passage. Thank You for all your info, it has been most helpful.
Thanks - we’re going Aug 17th and this video was very timely.
We are too! NCL?
So are we! Out of Seattle!
Your channel is so amazing and informative! Thank you! My family and I are going on our Alaska cruise in 10 days. We are so excited and your videos have helped us prepare properly for our trip ahead! Keep these videos coming. You're the best!
So exciting!! Glad my videos have been helpful as you plan. Enjoy every minute 🛳️👏
We are not all fortunate enough to by high end clothes for one trip and then give them away at the end of the vacay. Count your blessings!
Hi went are crusing Alaska for our 4th time the first week of Sept on RC out of Seattle. Thanks for the info
we have just started planning our Alaska cruise in 2026. Thanks so much for your help.
Thanks
Nice video! I am going to sail to Alaska twice in July. I was forgetting the wind-proof clothing. Thanks for reminding me.
We are going to Alaska on August 1st, we are very excited and I have watched several of your videos, they have been very helpful!!! Thank you!
Where is the description box, and I’d like advice on cruise..do you dress for dinner as much as other cruises?
My first cruise will be Aug 3! We’ve been to Alaska and my parents have cruises it several times, but not me! I’m so excited I’ve already started to pack! Your videos are amazing! TY
Congrats! We will be leaving Aug 3 on our first Alaskan cruise too😁
Did Alaska last July and was so happy to have both waterproof shoes and pants! I also brought disposable towels to dry things off like benches etc. They are pressed into little disks and pop open when they hit water. So very compact.
Ohhh. I forgot about the pop up towels. We take them on hiking vacations. I will pull some out and add them to my pack. Thank you for the reminder!
The towels are a great idea!
You can practically buy these for a Norwegian cruise as the weather is similar.
I’m glad, lol, packing starts this weekend
I'm going to Alaska next month (Sept) with a group of 7 and shared your video with them! Great tips!
Going on my first Alaskan cruise in July. So happy I found your channel it has been a great resource with getting ready for the trip. Thank You!
Thanks we’re going to Alaska August 10th, 2024 and I was able to get several things through your links, thanks!
Thanks a lot for all information 🤝 we are going to Alaska cruise in september 😊
We are heading on our Alaskan cruise in August. Looking forward to it. Hopefully a lot of pictures will be taken. Thank you for the suggestions😊
Very helpful info - I'm making my list in prep for our September land and cruise tour. Thank you
We went in May of last year. I think you covered just about everything. 😊
Cruising Alaska with Princess in September!
Discovery Princess June 7 first time Alaska
Thanks for the information
Have an amazing cruise! I have a video on packing for longer cruises. The laundry package is great on ncl
@@LifeWellCruised Next week's cruise will be a warm up for the three week one. I'll test out how long it takes for a sink washed item to dry.
@@stevengolden9009 That's my kind of deal.
I brought waterproof pants and they were a lifesaver
The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
Heading out first two weeks in July so your info is not only timely but much appreciated. Thanks
